I want this Anya Hindmarch bag!

Ah! When I saw this online, I knew I wanted it. Its an Anya Hindmarch bag. Anya Hindmarch was made famous for personalising her bags. You can have your photo or your kids photos or any personal photos on your own bag which makes it one of a kind.

Anyway, the “I’m not a Plastic Bag” bag is a canvas shopping tote. Its meant to be an enviromentally friendly creation, to reduce the use of plastic bags. I suppose you could say that I could just buy one of those green bags that are being offered at some supermarkets, but hey! Those aren’t Anya Hindmarch bags! 🙂

This one actually looks good carried outside of the grocery store and you could even take it on shopping trips or for a casual day out. Its that sort of bag. I want it! Even the celebs love it.

Life&Style - The New It Bag

It was launched on June 20 in the USA and is expected to be taken worldwide by July. I checked the Anya Hindmarch website and it said that the one launched in our Malaysian stores will be white with grey lettering. I think the brown lettering one looks better, but its going over $200 on ebay!

It retails for $15 and GBP7.50 (RM52) in the USA and England respectively and I hope they don’t tack on some crazy mark up when they bring it in here to Malaysia. After all, its for a good cause. Saving the environment is always a good cause.

Anya Hindmarch stores in Malaysia are in 1 Utama U Parkson (TEl: : + 603 77242197) and KLCC (+ 603 23820877). I’ll update if I get any further news on its release and its price.

UPDATE: Its launching in Malaysia at KLCC on 6 July 2007. It will retail for RM55 and is limited.

Do you line your lower lash line?

Lining the lower lash line is not a new makeup move. In fact, I’ve noticed many women lining both their upper and lower lash lines, even among the older ladies. Some even have them tattooed on – OUCH! I was reading some tips on how to make small eyes look larger, and it was recommended that you line your eyes all around. Apparently it gives the illusion of size.

Nowadays, many women line their lower lash line with a softer colour, or with a softer or smudgier line as opposed to the harsh black lines you would have seen amongst the older ladies. Here is a picture to illustrate what I mean. This picture was taken from Kanebo T’estimo’s site. The Japanese tend to use lighter and more shimmery shades to line their lower lash line. In their instructions on the back of their eyeshadow palette packaging, they too show you how you can do it yourself.

The eye colour on the lower lid is what I mean. In the picture on the left, which is for an evening look, the shadow is dark and on the one on the right, its a light shimmery shade for day.

I tried it. I’ve tried many things at least once. And honestly, I don’t like it. Contrary to making my eyes look bigger, I found that it made my eyes look smaller than they already are. I don’t quite understand why. I’ve tried it with light shimmery shades and I’ve tried it with a smokey eye. Both times, I end up cleaning off and starting over again. It also makes my eyes look puffy, which is an effect I don’t get if I don’t touch my lower lashes.

The other thing I don’t like about it is that it makes me look older. Somehow, outlining my eyes makes them stand out in a way I find intimidating, even just looking at myself in the mirror! Imagine how others who look at me must feel. So now, after doing my eyeshadow, I only line my upper lash line with a fairly thick line. My line disappears when I open my eyes so I need a fairly thick line for it to show. Doing this, enlarges my eye and gives it definition. Then, I apply my mascara and I’m good to go.

I won’t say that lining the lower lash line is bad. I know someone who does it, and she looks amazing. On her, her eyes actually look bigger and more defined. On me, I just look beady eyed and mean. Not a look that would go down well in the service industry eh?

I don’t think its for everyone and I’m a prime example. However, here’s a tip from Rick DiCecca, premier makeup artist with Estee Lauder.

Apply eyeliner in a dark shade to the base of your lashes across the top lid, then smudge it to make smoky. Next-apply a coordinating eyeshadow over the liner, then apply mascara. Leave the lower lash line clean (no liner or mascara) to help draw attention up and away from imperfection under the eyes!

YES! Someone agrees that lining the lower lash does make you look older! 🙂 I know I feel I look older, so I won’t be lining my lower lashes.

Emu oil from Dremu

I previously wrote about my experience with Vitamin E oil. It works a treat for me but I cannot use it very often because its so thick, I’m afraid of clogging my pores. My sister was given some Emu Oil from Dremu Skin Care Products and asked if I’d like to try it. Of course I said yes!

I got a sample of Dremu oil, which is their most popular product. At first, I was calling it “Dre-mu” until I realised it was Dr. Emu because its actually made from Emu oil! Yes, the large flightless bird of Australia yields an oil that is supposed to be pretty miraculous in erasing wrinkles. The thing is, I don’t have wrinkles, just some fine lines that are barely noticable.

So, I read the Dremu website, and saw that the emu oil could also be used as a moisturiser, and it seems to work miracles for dry skin. The oil is rather thick so I did not want to risk putting it on my face. I’m just recovering from a bout of clogged pores. So, I tried it on my dry elbows and lips. Amazing! I put it on at night and the next morning, I woke up to glossy plump lips and smooth elbows! I’m tempted to try it on my face so we’ll see.

If you have dry skin, or live in a cold country, then the Dremu oil might work for you as a facial moisturiser as it seems to work well for those with dry skin or chaffing problems. I’m just not sure if the hot humid weather here will cause my skin to react differently. Oprah endorses this product, apparently, as do a host of other A-list celebs. It is supposed to work wonders also on skin problems like eczema, rosacea, psoriasis and has a host of other uses. A 0.5 fluid oz bottle costs $35 and the website ships internationally. Dremu comes from the USA, despite the fact the bird is from Australia. Rather odd isn’t it?

How to apply bronzer?

I’m not much of a bronzer girl myself. It might be due to the fact that as an Asian, having fair skin is a prized asset and I’m naturally fair. So, I don’t feel the need to tan or apply bronzer. However, there are times when having a slightly bronzed look works. This is especially on days when you want a touch of colour on your face. The thing about bronzer is that it doesn’t act like blush.

Blushes add pinkish or reddish colors to your cheeks and can sometimes look a bit off or unnatural. Bronzers add colour to your face. I must admit that it helps give an illusion of a healthy glow on days when you don’t feel very healthy, or your skin looks slightly dull. Also, if you use bronzer, gold eyes really stand out and you can take it for a “natural look” without trying too hard.
