New Maybelline Water Shine Elixir Lipstick

June 23, 2007 Paris B 3 Comments

Here’s something new from the Maybelline stable – Water Shine Elixir Lipstick. I saw it in Watsons yesterday, retailing for about RM29.80. It might be a promotional price for this is a new item.

I played around with the testers on display and got a pretty good idea of what the product is like.

Are you wanting a Chanel Turbulent Blush?

June 22, 2007 Paris B 1 Comment

Turbulent is a limited edition blush from Chanel’s 2006 Summer Collection. Its a Joues Contrast blush which is the round ones not the quilted one.

The colour is a very cool toned pink with lots of shimmer. The texture is hard as its a baked powder blush. This is opposed to pressed powder i.e. where they compress the powder. However, despite it feeling hard to the touch, its very pigmented. One swipe of your brush over the blush, and you’ll have a lovely pink flush with shimmer.

This is my first Chanel Joues Contrast blush and I am sure its not going to be my last!

The problem however, is that this Chanel blush colour is limited edition and already sold out in many counters. So, I rooted around my blush stash, and came up with a dupe in Make Up For Ever No. 85.

Here are some comparison pictures of the 2 blushes.

The Chanel blush is lighter pink in pan with more sparkles. The Make Up For Ever one is more berry toned and more pigmented.

Here is a picture without flash of the two blushes. Very similar no?

Finally, here’s a picture of both swatched on my arm.

In pan, they don’t look as similar, but on skin, they are quite indistinguishable. They are both a cool pink on skin with Chanel being more shimmery than Make Up For Ever. If you like cool shades and missed out on Chanel’s Tubulent blush, don’t worry, just stroll down to the Make Up For Ever counter and pick up its cheaper dupe!

Chanel Joues Contrast blushes retail here for RM133 each. Make Up For Ever blushes retail at about RM63 each.

I won’t be doing a pro/con thing for this one as its a comparison post. But I have nothing but raves for both these blushes!!

Are you flushed or do you have Rosacea?

June 22, 2007 Paris B 3 Comments

Have you found yourself having any one of these symptoms?

  • Redness on the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead.
  • Small visible blood vessels on the face.
  • Bumps or pimples on the face.
  • Watery or irritated eyes.

The most common of all are the first two. I’ve known people whose faces look perpetually flushed, whether it is hot or cold. In our hot and humid weather the redness is even more accentuated. In fact, my brother seems to have some of the symptoms but not to a very severe degree. If you have these symptoms, you might have Rosacea.

Rosacea is a skin condition that doesn’t seem to be widely talked about here in Malaysia. I find it rather odd, as the number one trigger for rosacea is actually sun exposure, followed by stress and hot weather. Our country, being hot and humid, has 2 of the top three triggers of this disorder, yet I don’t hear much about it. Is it because it is not very common here, despite the sun and hot weather? Or is it that its as yet an undiagnosed condition for many who suffer in silence?

How I came to know about it is through a beauty forum I used to frequent. Some of the women there spoke of having rosacea, which prompted me to read up on it. Rosacea.org has a lot of useful information on this and how it may be treated and the FAQ is very informative too.

It would appear that rosacea is more common in people with fair skin, or maybe it just shows up more and is more obvious. Its harder to detect a flush on someone with darker skin and pimples might just be passed off as that, or as a rash. Also, as I said, I don’t notice a lot of this skin condition here in hot humid Malaysia. I also picked up that spicy food and a hot environment were triggers for this condition. Malaysia is swimming in hot humid weather and spicy food! So, I’m wondering if it might be genetic instead?

Elle has a good article in their July issue about Rosacea. I’ve attached pictures of the articles but you’ll have to click to enlarge and hopefully be able to read it.

ELLE July - Rosacea - Page1 ELLE July - Rosacea - Page2 ELLE July - Rosacea - Page3

Apparently, there is no cure for Rosacea, but there are ways to help keep it under control. One of it is skincare that has anti-redness functions like that of Eucerin. I’ve noticed an anti-redness line in Eucerin and used to wonder what it was for. Now I know. There are also many other products and treatment that can help keep it under control, like laser treatment to help with the removal of blood vessels.

So the next time you think you are flushed, watch the flush. If it doesn’t go away after a while, or if it comes back again and again, leaving your face red a lot of the time, you might have rosacea. To be sure, see a dermatologist. There are antibiotics and various treatments to help keep it under control so it doesn’t take over your life. And since sun exposure is a number one trigger, there is no better time to advocate the use of daily  sunscreen, and to limit your sun exposure. Your skin will thank you for it.

Kenneth Jay Lane Jewellery

lipstick

I was shopping around for a gift for a makeup mad friend and look what I found! A pendant on a necklace, in the shape of a red lipstick! Wouldn’t that be appropriate? Hehe…

This design is by a designer called Kenneth Jay Lane and I saw it on Electricladyland.com which carries a line of Kenneth Jay Lane Jewelry. Some of his designs do look quite nice, if a little clunky. I suppose it would suit those who like bulkier jewellery. He seems to specialise in rings, pendants and bracelets but other than gold and silver, there isn’t much information on what are the jewellery items made of. Bit of a pity really. I’m sensitive to artificial gold, so I do like to know what I’m wearing on my skin. Then again, at the prices they are charging, it should be the real thing. The lipstick pendant for example costs a cool $88, but I’ve no idea what the size is so I can’t tell if its a cute size or a bulky size. Some information on that would be nice.

Kenneth Jay Lane seems to like strawberries too, for there are many designs incorporating or featuring strawberries. All in all, I rather liked looking at his designs. They are quite quirky and have a nice designer look about them. I wonder how my friend will feel about wearing an $88 lipstick around her neck? hmm…

The pup & I celebrating birthdays within weeks of The pup & I celebrating birthdays within weeks of each other 😁 Kiddo turns 4 and celebrated with specially made doggy burgers & fries.

I got him in early Jan 2020 so he’s only been with me less than 4 years but it’s been incredible to see how he’s grown (or not), and how he’s slowly mellowed with age (or not!). He’s still that crazy rambunctious puppy who terrorises other dogs, begging them to play and barking at them when they don’t. He’s a greedy fella who makes me think I’m the greatest chef in the world (in the dog world maybe!) and he still gets crazy eyes when excited.

But I’ve also found more white hair around his eyes and he sleeps in more and later now. He doesn’t even get up early enough to jump onto the bed as he used to 😔

4 years is practically adulthood in doggy years and I’m thankful that we have the opportunity to spend lots of time together even if I bemoan having to bring him everywhere I go.

Happy 4 years boy ❤️
