PB Says: We have a very simple and quick Chinese New Year nail art design from Xin – pretty spring cherry/plum blossoms anyone?
Hello all 😀 Since Chinese New Year is just around the corner, let’s learn a quick tutorial for creating cherry/plum blossoms nail art. It will take about 30 – 60 mins to create this design depending on how quickly your polish dries and how quickly you work.
Here’s what you will need:
Base and top coat, blue and red polish, black and white nail polish or acrylic colors, rhinestones (if you have), a dotting tool and a fine art brush. Ready? Here we go.
Paint your base coat, let dry thoroughly before proceeding to the base color. You can clean off the edges and excess later.
I chose blue polish for the background *think cherry blossoms against blue sky*. On my ring finger, I painted plum-red polish (OPI – Do You Think I’m Tex-y?) for the pop of colour among the blues.
On my thumb, I used dried flowers for the ‘real’ and 3D effect. The dried flowers only look good when use minimally instead of on all fingers. You won’t need glue; just use a base or top coat for the flowers to stick. Use a tweezer to transfer the flower onto your nail.
When the base color is dry, use the art brush to pick up a little black, and start painting the branches of the cherry blossoms. I started with the thumb, and for the rest of nails, you can draw the branches at random corners. It is better if they don’t look too uniform because tree branches aren’t uniform.
When you are done with the branches, use your dotting tool or the same art brush and make 4 dots on top of each branch for the cherry blossom. Repeat for all 10 nails. You can use white as I did or pink if you prefer a sweet colour.
When the petals are completed, now you are ready to create the flower center. For some bling effect, I used rhinestones for one of the centers, and alternated it with a dot of red polish on the other flower. I think it is better not to use rhinestones for all buds because the chances of the stones falling out quickly are high unless you use glue, which it’s not my preference. I usually just use base or top coat to stick the rhinestones. If you use glue it will of course stick better and last longer.
Use a tweezer to pick the stones and place it on the center of the petals carefully, then gently press on it to make sure that it sticks well.
And..you are done!
Enjoy the plum or cherry blossoms on your nails for the festive mood 😉 Would you attempt this or a different creation or do you plan to leave your nails bare for CNY? 🙂

Holy crap. How’d you get the tiny cherry blossoms in the 2nd last picture? I admire your patience and tenacity. I’d much rather gnaw my arm off than do this. Thankfully there are others like you who’d do it and let me ogle. I’d love to watch a video of you doing this, reckon it’ll be fascinating!
Good stuff and Happy New Year!

thanks for the idea of doing a video! May consider it next time 😉 I got the dried flowers from one of the online sites.

The dried flowers are SUCH a cute touch! I would’ve never thought to do that! I’d be the perfect manicure during Hanami (cherry blossom festival) here. Like LeGeeque said, it’d be awesome if you did video tutorials! Happy New Year, Xin!
