Pigment powders and loose powder eyeshadows

I was introduced to pigments and loose eyeshadows about 2 years ago and in the process I built up quite a collection of them. I then got to wondering what the difference was between pigments and loose powder eyeshadows and why some companies called them such.

MAC Cosmetics as most will know, sell pigments. These are jars of loose pigment powder that you can use not only as eyeshadow, but also for lips and face. Originally, these were supposed to be the basic ingredient of coloured makeup. Mix it with clear gloss and you get your custom coloured gloss. Use it on cheeks and you get a blush. Cheap and Good? Skin Food Vitamin Eyeshadow

This is Part 2 of the Cheap and Good? eyeshadow series. If you missed my explanation of what this series is about, do read Part 1 on my review of Elianto Shimmer eyeshadow.

For my second experiment, I popped over to Skin Food to check out their stuff. Skin Food is a Korean cosmetics company and like many Korean mainstream cosmetics, happen to fall in the low-medium priced market. So again, the customers tend to be the young and those on a budget. Here’s the link to the Korean site and to the Singapore site for those who can’t read Korean.

I’ll be honest. These cutesy Korean brands don’t appeal to me. I chose Skin Food because of the cute factor and because I always see many people at their counters. I reckoned there must be something worth checking out there other than the fact that their prices are low. Skin Food did have a range of eyeshadows that fell in the below RM25 range and I was curious about how they fared. So, I picked up the Skin Food Vitamin Eyeshadow for about RM23 (I think).

You have to hand it to the Koreans though. They know how to package their product so it appeals! Skin Food’s Vitamin Eyeshadow comes in a compact with a large eyeshadow pan in it. The brand name and the signature little cherub is embossed on the surface of the shadow. How cute is that? Continue Reading >> Cheap and Good? Skin Food Vitamin Eyeshadow

New Benefit PosieTint Lip and Cheek Stain

I’m hardly ever tempted by cream or liquid blushes because previous experiences did not leave me with a good impression. However, the new Benefit PosieTinticon lip and cheek stain is suddenly calling out to me.

Don’t ask me why. I was not tempted by BeneTint although I know lots of people love it (I also know lots of people who hate it) and pink isn’t really a colour I like for the cheeks.

However, an online review I read described Posie Tint as Chanel Narcisse blush in a bottle, and I love Narcisse! Yes I know its a light pink that doesn’t work well on darker skintones but I love it on me. Does this mean I’ll like PosieTinticon too?

I won’t expect to see it here in Malaysia for a while - Erase Paste isn’t expected till June 2008 (I asked at the local counter about it and I got blank looks until the manager came along).  Dare I run the risk and order online for US$28? It’ll be cheaper… ;)
