Continuing from friends who delight me with unusual (and cult) brands I’d never heard of or tried comes the Shiro Cosmetics Intertubes. A gift from a friend, and when I saw it, I went… “huh?”

"shiro

No really, I did. Firstly, I’d never really heard of the brand so I had to look it up. Shiro Cosmetics is an indie makeup brand combining makeup and everything geeky which does endear them to me somewhat. They satisfy my inner geek even if some of the references to current geekery is a bit young for me 😉 They also do some excellent looking loose eyeshadows (they had Pokemon themed shadows reviewed on Pink Sith! How not to love?) at lovely affordable prices. Might give them a go some day.

Today, we are looking into the Shiro Cosmetics Intertubes – a super highly pigmented lip colour that is both a lipstick and a lip stain and everything else in between. No prizes for guessing – but does anyone get the reference to “Over 9000”?

A word about packaging. I’m not in love with the oval shaped design.

I would prefer if Shiro Cosmetics put their Intertubes into regular round tubes because it just makes it easier to apply. Oval tubes, whilst unique and all, just aren’t lip friendly. Also the twist mechanism allows you to twist up … but not down. I have to push it down manually and that can squash the lipstick somewhat. I learnt it the hard way when I took the photo above and then had to retract the lipstick. Now I just extend it just a little bit to apply. There is a reason that commercial brands go with round lipstick tubes so I think it best to not buck the trend because it works.

Colour-wise however, I have nothing to fault this. The pigment is crazy!

Shiro Cosmetics Intertubes Over 9000 swatched once

The colour is described on the website as a bold pink. I do not disagree. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that if you are looking for an inexpensive bright pink lipstick yet doesn’t turn you into Barbie, your search ends here. There is a lot to be said for trying indie brand cosmetics 🙂

Over 9000 applies with a tiny bit of shimmer on the lips that isn’t quite obvious until the light hits. The colour isn’t super scary bubblegum pink and I’d safely say you can wear it to the office without drawing strange looks. There is a hint of a grapefruit scent which I like but what is notable is the lasting power on this thing. It lasts and lasts! I took it through the morning, through a thoroughly oily yong tau foo lunch, blotted and it was still there as a lip stain. I then topped it up with the Hourglass Nectar lipgloss and I was good to go with a coral-pink lip colour that was quite unique. I would give other colours a go for sure! But I would prefer if they came in round tubes first.

Pros: Long lasting, Not drying, Very pigmented, Inexpensive

Cons: Only available online, Oval packaging is not very practical

Many of Shiro Cosmetics products are named after cult geekery. I will tell you here that the reference to “Over 9000” went whoosh! over my head. When I looked it up online however, there is a wealth of information! It is a line from a Dragonball Z movie. Here is it!
