A couple of months ago, I was introduced to Suki – an organic skincare brand from the USA and available at Pure Tincture, an online store in Singapore that ships internationally. Interestingly, I’ve had a few people ask me about organic skincare recently, and after using it for over a month, its probably a good time to introduce you to Suki 🙂

"suki

Suki Organic Skincare hails from the USA and is a pure organic skincare brand, made suitable for sensitive or eczema prone skins, pregnant and nursing women and even children. I was sent 3 products from their line for combo to oily skins. I do have combination skin but tending to the dry (slightly oilier T-zone and drier cheeks) so do bear that in mind when I tell how the products fared.

First about packaging. I love how they come in glass bottles. Yes you do have to be careful with them, but I’ve traveled with these and it was alright. I always have a soft spot for skincare in glass bottles 🙂

Suki Face Creamy Foaming Cleanser S$58/120ml

"suki

The Suki Creamy Foaming Cleanser comes in a glass bottle. Gotta be careful with this in the shower! But I do like how sturdy it is. Granted, the glass bottle can be a hazard but unlike many brands I’ve come across, the pump is very well made and it pumps out surprisingly little. I wasn’t paying attention as usual so I only used one pump (the instructions said to use 2 pumps) but although I wasn’t expecting too much of it, it lathers up very nicely and cleans the skin very well, without stripping moisture.

Its stated to be for all skin types and for my combo-dry skin, I think it fits the bill. The active ingredients of Acai Oil and Organic Apple AHA is printed on the bottle and these are the key ingredients to fight free radicals and remove dirt and restore radiance and reduce pore size. I did not notice any pore size reduction but I will say that its a very nice cleanser with a very nice fresh citrus scent and I am still using it and happily so too. If you are like me and use just one pump, its going to last you a long long time. Oh and I like how the ingredient list tells you just what they are in plain English. I don’t speak Latin very well 😛

Ingredients: water (aqua/eau), saponified oils of: cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, organic sesamum indicum (sesame) seed oil, organic simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) oil, apple extract, cyamopsis tetragonoloba (guar) gum, citrus aurantifolia (lime) oil, zingiber officinale (ginger) root oil, fair trade organic butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, mixed tocopherols (100% pure vitamin e), euterpe oleracen pulp (acai) oil, vitis vinifera (grape) seed extract, matricaria recutita (chamomile) extract, dehydrated coconut milk, maltodextrin & soy milk protein, linalool

Suki Face Concentrated Balancing Toner – S$58/120ml

"suki

The toner is a facial mist. As the instructions point out, you can spritz it over your face after cleansing, or onto a cotton pad to apply on your skin. I use the former method, because I like a quick fix, and I like spritzing mists on my face 😀 The nozzle in the pump spritzes out the toner in a very fine mist that is very comfortable, and I love the scent! Its got a lavender scent I find very calming in the morning and evening.

The liquid is not clear but slightly murky and I do upend it to mix it up before I spritz. I saw from the ingredient list that there was chamomile and lavender to sooth the skin and inflammations, and there is white willow in there which is supposed to be a natural salicylic acid to reduce inflammations. Well, I was foolish and was out in the sun without sufficient sunscreen on my neck and shoulders so the skin there was slightly inflamed by evening. Not burnt, but it smarted a little. On a whim, I spritz some of this mist over and there is a nice cooling effect that helped sooth the discomfort. I did it a few times over a few days and felt fine thereafter. But for the fact its a rather heavy glass bottle, I’d love to carry this around with me.

On my combo-dry skin, it did not feel very moisturizing. It wasn’t uncomfortable as I’ve noted, but I couldn’t use it as a moisture toner. If you have oilier skin, you might like this one. There is another version for dry mature skin – Concentrated Nourishing Toner – but I don’t think I’m quite there yet 😛

Ingredients: organic roses (rosa centifolia) infused in purified, filtered water (agua), organic concentrated aloe vera (aloe barbadensis), organic rose (rosa canina), lavender (lavandula angustifolia), calendula (calendula officinalis) & chamomile (anthemis nobilis) extracts, natural vitamin liposome c, standardized white willow bark extract (salix alba), organic seaweed extract (algae), aroma (pure premium steam distilled essential oil)

Suki Face Balancing Day Lotion – S$69/30ml

"suki

When I was applying this, my sister sniffed the air and said “Whats that smell of yuzu?” Yes, this lotion has a very strong, sharp citrus but not quite citrus scent. Its not unpleasant unless you dislike that sort of scent.

This Balancing Day Lotion is targeted at those with combo-oily, eczema, acne-prone or easily inflammed skin and I think that if you are of that skintype, you will like this one. I use it in the day only (since it does say its a day lotion) and it absorbs very quickly into the skin without leaving any residue and best of all, it does not encourage oil production throughout the day. Its really nice, except that I found it a little drying for me. I resorted to mixing in a drop of the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery serum to help (which it does) or using a hydrating serum under this. This way, it felt much more comfortable on my skin. The ingredients have an anti-inflammatory slant to calm and heal the skin. I use 1-1.5 pumps smoothed over my skin and as I said, its very comfortable on, just perhaps not quite for my combo-dry skin.

Ingredients: Organic Roses (Rosa Centifolia) infused in purified, filtered Water (Aqua), Organic Concentrated Aloe Vera (Aloe Barbadensis), Organic Rose (Rosa Canina), Lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia), Calendula (Calendula Officinalis) & Chamomile (Anthemis Nobilis) Extracts, Natural Vitamin Liposome C, Standardized White Willow Bark Extract (Salix Alba), Organic Seaweed Extract (Algae), Aroma (Pure Premium Steam Distilled Essential Oil)

Suki Organic Skincare – Overall

From what I’ve tried so far, I’ve been quite impressed with the line. My personal picks would be the Creamy Foaming Cleanser and the Concentrated Balancing Toner. The Balancing Day Lotion is good too, just not for my skin type. If there is a Nourishing lotion in the line, I might consider giving it a go. Oh and my hands are happy to report that they did not react to any of the products in this organic line, which is saying something 🙂

Pros: Lovely glass bottle and very well made dispensers, Cleanser does not leave the skin feeling dry and tight and it cleans very well, Toner helped calm inflammed skin, Day lotion does not turn oily and absorbs quickly without leaving a residue, Nice fresh scents

Cons: A little pricey, Unsure of availability in Malaysia

If you are interested in trying out the Suki Organic skincare line, do note that Pure Tincture carries Suki trial sets that have a range of products in mini sizes that you can try out before you commit to the full sized products. Prices range from S$23-35 and I think its a great way to try out a new brand. The other good thing is that the shipping to Malaysia has been kept at a flat rate of S$10 by Fedex. I think that’s very reasonable for shipping by courier as it arrives very quickly and safely. Payment can be made by Paypal.

Are you interested in trying anything from Suki? The line seems to be working quite well for those who have eczema problems, from what I can see of the testimonials so perhaps if you have eczema prone skin, this is a brand to consider 🙂 As for myself, there’s this Bio-C 10% Formula Face Serum that I find most intriguing, except its a whopping S$160/15ml so I’m having second and third thoughts 😛
