Yes that’s pretty pathetic isn’t it 😉

Anyway, when I went away most recently, I took only 1 eyeshadow palette with me. It was the Shiseido Luminizing Satin Trio palette in GD804 Opera. Apparently, this is the most popular and bestselling of all the palettes. I had to find out why.

And I had to see how that strange combination of colours could work!

When I first showed you this palette, I mentioned how concerned I was with the strange combination of pastel blue with the gold and khaki. But I was determined to make it work! (That’s 2 sentences ending with “work”!)

As the Shiseido Makeup line is marketed internationally, the colours are more vibrant and not as sheer, nor as shimmery as Maquillage. However, it still felt like a Japanese eyeshadow to me – shimmery and less pigmented than say, MAC since everyone seems to use MAC as a basis for comparison (I can never fathom why).

But it infinitely feels to be superior in quality because it layers beautifully. Like the satin in the name. If you don’t like Asian style eyeshadow, or if you like very strong pigmented colours, I don’t think you’ll like the Shiseido palettes very much. But if you do, like moi! you’re in for such a treat! I’m going to show you 2 looks I did with this palette, which almost look like they did not come from the same palette!

My advise is to use a brush with this palette. I tried using the sponge tip applicators but I found they applied the colour too light and sheer on my skin. The brush applicator provided is serviceable and applies the colour much better.

One more comment. The shadows can get a bit powdery when you use a brush to pick up the colour. It does not apply powdery though. I do not get fall out but it just looks powdery in the pan.

However I like how it looks on skin because although the colours look bright they really aren’t that scary and that khaki with gold shimmer is a beautiful crease colour. Its my favourite of all the 3 shades.

Look 1 – Warm Smokey Gold with Cool Blue

I used the Khaki in the outer part of the lid and in the crease and the Gold on the inner part of the lid and blended as a lid colour. I used the blue to line the lower lash line. It turned out to be a surprisingly warm smokey gold look which I rather liked.

Look #2 – Cool Blue Shot with Gold

I again used Khaki in the outer part of the lid and in the crease with the Blue on the inner part of the lid and blended as the dominant lid colour. Again, this takes on a smokey look but its got cooler tones now. To amp things up, I used the gold to line the lower lashline.

So yes, I found myself liking the Shiseido Luminizing Trio Eyeshadow palette in Opera. It wasn’t evident at first, but it grows on you 🙂

Pros: Brush applicator provided, Colours blend well and layer for intensity, Not too sheer nor sparkly

Cons: Some might find the colours sheer, Palette case could be made to feel more substantial, Skip the sponge applicator and use the brush applicator
