Gioia – Joy (Italian)

Acqua – Water

Acqua di Gioia – Water of Joy (?)

Either way, this is Giorgio Armani’s new fragrance for women which they are convinced will be a hit with most women. It was recently unveiled at the hill top restaurant of Neo Tapas in Kuala Lumpur.

Well, aren’t I right? Joy for me IS waking up to smell freshly brewed coffee. Something I don’t get very often but which I do get when I go home to coffee made only as Mom knows how to. Incidentally, after we mixed up our interpretations of joy and did a lucky dip, I got one that talked about coffee too! Coincidence or what? 🙂

Aqua di Gioa starts out fresh with top notes of lemon and mint leaves, mellowing down to a floral scent of jasmine and brown sugar. What do you get? Hungry. Because I’m made to think of creme brulee every single time I wear this fragrance! I love my lemon but the scent of jasmine isn’t one that enamours me. I usually steer away from fragrances with this scent.

When I was in primary school, I had a class teacher who enveloped herself (and the rest of the school) in the smell of jasmine perfume. You could tell she was coming to class from a mile away – and gave us lots of time to be good little girls by the time she arrived 😛 (I have a phobia of jasmine scents since!)

So thankfully, the jasmine element only really comes out when it starts to mellow, by which time, its tempered by the other spicier scents so you don’t walk around in a waft of jasmine. Acqua di Gioia is not too floral and not too fresh and best of all, not sugary sweet which is great for me.

However, it does not last very long on me either. By the end of the day, its almost gone 🙁 Take a good sniff of it the next time you pass by the Giorgio Armani fragrance counter. But do be sure to try it on your skin – scents work differently on everybody’s skin.

Now, as I like doing, here’s the commercial for Aqua di Gioa. There’s lot of water, waves crashing on the shore, beautiful girl rolling on the ground and in the surf… erm… yeah its a perfume ad 🙂
