I picked up this Ed Pinaud Ombres Quatuor eyeshadow palette in Singapore. It was valued at S$59 but came “free” with a S$5.90 magazine – L’Officiel which is a pretty decent read although mostly fashion based. Anyway, when I told Beetrice what I wanted, I also told her to try to get me either Emerald Green or Blue Black. As luck would have it, I got Blue Black! 😀

Blue Black sounds horrible as a colour description. Blue Black is what I’d describe a bruise not a colour palette 😛

Anyway, blue eyeshadow isn’t the easiest color to work with and when I first looked at the palette, I thought “Gosh darnit! That is some serious BLUE!” I also thought “It looks a bit washed out – I’m not sure if I’d like it”

Also, after searching online, I realised Ed Pinaud is sold through MLM (multi level marketing) which did not quite endear me. But prejudices aside, I have to admit to liking this eyeshadow quad a little. Sigh… How I wear it is shown below.

The case is gold metal but I suspect its foil over plastic. The eyeshadows are protected by a clear acrylic cover which you can swing to one side. Not sure of the practicalities or reason for this but there you go.

The colours apply a little sheer but I like that. For colours like blue, if you want to be able to wear it out as a lid colour without looking like you are channeling the 80’s it should be a little sheer to me.

I used the sparkly black close to the lashline, dark blue on outer part of the lid up to the eye socket, light blue on inner part and blended, white-silver all over and on brow bone. The black is not very dark nor it is very sparkly on the skin. Pity – I’d have preferred something darker and more sparkly.

Apologies for the messy liner 😛 I cleaned it up before leaving the house. I wore this to work and you can see that its not quite as bright as it looks in the pan. In fact, its taken on a blue-gray look which I happen to like. The colours do tend to be a little sheer, which might not suit those who like intense colours but I like it because it makes it a little friendlier for work. It lasted on me without a primer but then most eyeshadows do. If you want it to look more intense, use a primer like Urban Decay Primer Potion.

I can see myself using the black and darker blue and white-silver. I don’t like the pastel blue shade very much so I probably wont use that much. It does work to lighten up the look so its not all bad.

Whats my verdict? For S$5.90 (about RM14+) with a free magazine, I think its a great deal. I’d pay up to maybe RM50 for this one. But no more than that so S$59 (RM150) is out of the question for me.

Pros: Inexpensive (with magazine), Sheer, Easy to work with

Cons: Expensive if full price, Pastel blue shade is blah, Sheer

If you are in Singapore or have friends or family there and want to try this, you could ask them to keep a look out at their news stands. I’m not sure if its still available. There are 6 colours available I believe. Otherwise, I’m not sure where else one can buy this except through MLMs but I don’t do MLMs 😛

Have you tried anything from this brand or did you manage to snag yourself a “free” set with the L’Officiel mag in Singapore? What colour did you get? I’m wondering how the Emerald Green one looks 😛
