I wrote previously about discovering that the Swedish Make Up Store was open in The Gardens at Midvalley. While I was there, I realised that it was an opportune time to pick up a concealer since my old faithful, the L’oreal Touche Magique concealer pen has been discontinued.

The choices for concealer at the Make Up Store are really quite mind-boggling, ranging from blemish concealers to concealers in palettes that you can mix and match for your needs. However, I only wanted a concealer for the undereye area, and so I was recommended the Make Up Store Wand Concealer in Medium. Medium is a shade that should suit most fair to medium fair skin tones.

As the name of the product suggests, this is a concealer that comes in a tube with a wand applicator. It brings to mind a lip gloss and applies the same way.

On the website, it says this:

Concealer Wand is a thin concealer that makes your skin even. It covers and lightens up dark skin areas. It is also great as a highlighter. Use it on your lips to reduce some of your natural lip colour and as a primer for your lipstick. * Vitamin E: (Tocopheryl Acetate) Binds and locks in moisture, balances dry and oily areas, stimulates cell production. However, I found that the texture of the concealer was rather thick. Also, I’m not sure if it was a packaging fault or if its a normal characteristic of the concealer wand, but the wand did not seem to pick up a lot of product. Each time I pulled out the wand and dabbed it on my skin, I found very little product transferring onto the skin so I had to re-dip at least twice. I did not like that as I found it unhygienic. I’m keeping it as a travel accessory for now as it is less prone to spillage or being squeezed out of a tube and will find another concealer for everyday.

Although the wand concealer did its job of concealing any undereye discoloration, I do not think that it makes a good highlighter as the texture is quite matt. With powder or foundation layered over it, there was no highlighting effect noticed. Medium was a good shade though, as it matched my skin colour perfectly.

A tube costs RM79 which I think is expensive since its only US$14 (RM46) online! Major marking-up happening! Make Up Store isn’t an expensive brand overseas and I think if the prices were less marked up, it might actually do better because they are very much like MAC Cosmetics and would give MAC a run for their money. So, that was a bit of a disappointment for me, as I anticipated their entry into Malaysia as providing Malaysians with a choice of reasonably priced quality makeup.

Pros: Good color match, Easy to travel with

Cons: Expensive marked up price, packaging is unhygienic, texture is thick and matt

[rating: 3.5/5]

I wrote previously about discovering that the Swedish Make Up Store was open in The Gardens at Midvalley.
