Ok so my first MAC purchase after many many years and did I like it?

Would you be surprised if I said yes? 🙂

Yes I do like the MAC Porcelain Pink MSF (Mineralized Skin Finish) powder. It could be more pigmented, but hey! Its not a blush so I’m not fussed. At a pinch, it does show up a little on my skin.

I don’t know what I am in MAC, but I take Lancome Maquiliquide foundation in BO-01, Diorskin Nude foundation in 010 Ivory, Paul & Joe powder foundation in 11 and pretty much most of the lighter foundation colours. One of these days, I’ll get myself colour matched to MAC.

I have no swatches on my hand – it shows up too light. On medium-darker skin tones, Porcelain Pink will show up only as a highlighter. The nice thing is that its not glittery like some of the other MSF I saw. It imparts a nice shimmer if you use a large fluffy brush to dust it on your skin. And it has a lovely way of evening out skin imperfections so you look like you have perfect glowy skin. Kid you not – show you below!

Use Porcelain Pink alone as a highlighter blush

Dusted on its own over foundation, there is a slight sheen to the skin – nice for days when you need less makeup on yet want a glow to your cheeks. I use a more compact brush – mine is the Anna Sui Flat Top brush which is discontinued – and apply it starting from my cheekbones and use the remnants along the sides of my face. There is slight colour and glow. But don’t over do it or you risk looking like an oil slick.

Use Porcelain Pink over pink blush to make the color pop!

However, the MAC Porcelain Pink MSF really comes into its own when dusted OVER a light pink or even peach blush. I usually apply a light pink blush like Benefit Dandelion, then use a large fluffy brush (my Sonia Kashuk Powder brush is perfect for this) and dust on Porcelain Pink over the blush starting from my cheekbones and then use the remnants along my face and hairline. It brings out the pink in the blush and brightens the face yet is quite subtle so its not overly shiny.

Here is a picture approximation of what I mean. Depending on the colour on your monitor you may or may not see the difference. Both were taken on different days under different lighting.

Picture on the left has more accurate skin colour, picture on the right looks strangely pink because of camera glitches but shows up the cheeks better.

Dammit! I’m raving about a MAC product! 😛 It tells you I’m fair when it comes to likes and dislikes eh? 😛 Hehe…

What are the cons? It feels grainy to the touch and its limited edition and expensive at RM115. Oh and you won’t like it if you are darker than I am or want to use it as a blush because seriously folks, the MSF is not a blush so don’t knock it for not performing like one.

Do I need more MSF after this one? No I don’t. I’m happy with just one 🙂

If you’ve tried using the MAC Mineralized Skin Finishes, which one’s your fave? Do you own Porcelain Pink too and do you have other tips on using this?

Stay beautiful,

Paris B

Ok so my first MAC purchase after many many years and did I like it?
