When I ran out of the last cream I enjoyed using, that I felt made a difference to my skin, I felt a little morose. I always get a little sad when I finish a product that I enjoy, yet I enjoy trying new things. So, it’s a little debate I have with myself each time – do I repurchase, or do I try something new.

Often, I opt to try something new 😛 Why mess with a winning formula, you may ask? Because I’m a glutton for punishment, I guess 😛

But it’s always nice when you do try something new, and it works out well, which is the case with the Mad Hippie Triple C Night Cream.

Mad Hippie Triple C Night Cream

I love the name of this brand – it’s fun and quirky, which appeals to me. I like the unexpected, because the products from Mad Hippie have unexpectedly met my expectations. Was there one too many unexpected words there? 😛

But seriously, I’ve always enjoyed using most of the products I’ve tried since I first bought them online at iHerb. They are a natural skincare brand, but one that’s more effective than most I’ve tried. You can get them now locally at Worthee Cosmetics, which makes more sense as they always have deals and offers 😉

The Mad Hippie Triple C Night Cream is a cream tailored for use at night, for all skin types. I personally feel that it’s due to the texture which is slightly heavier. If you have very dry skin, you can even get away with using a slightly thinner layer in the day time (as I have).

The Triple C in the name refers to the inclusion of 3 different types of Vitamin C – tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, magnesium ascorbyl phosphate and ascorbyl glucoside. These are stablized derivatives of Vitamin C, which is a super antioxidant. It is formulated to intensely hydrate skin while sustaining skin radiance, lightening dark spots and minimizing fine lines and wrinkles.

The other key ingredients in the cream are Reishi, Nordic cloudberry, chaga and turmeric, which are rich sources of anthocyanins, beta-carotene, trade minerals, antioxidants and vitamins, that visibly rejuvenate, replenish and repair compromised skin. There are also ceramides and shea butter that form a nourishing and protective barrier that retains skin’s natural moisture.

The Mad Hippie Triple C Night Cream claims to do a lot, so I was keen to see how it fared.

Creamy but not heavy texture

What I like best about the cream is that it felt creamy and emollient, but not heavy. I have tried many creams, and texturally, this one is one of the better formulations I’ve tried.

The cream spreads very easily on skin, and importantly, sinks in very comfortably and quickly without any greasy after-feel. If you have oily or combination skin type, you may find it feels heavy, which is understandable. Using it at night therefore makes sense, as you won’t feel as uncomfortable when you’re sleeping.

If you have dry skin however, like me, you can also try using some in the day, but in a thinner layer, or on weekends when you don’t have be out and about. I like the texture, which makes my skin feel very plumped and hydrated.

Skin feels well hydrated and moisturised

For those with dry skin, like me, this cream is lovely without a heavy price tag! Not only does skin feel well hydrated and moisturised, the effects do not wear off as some creams will. It keeps skin feeling comfortable for long hours through the night, and you wake up with skin that is plumped and nourished.

I was using the Dr. Jart Ceramide Cream just before this (which I loved!) and I felt that this one was just as good at retaining the moisture and hydration of my skin. I do prefer the texture of the Mad Hippie Triple C Night Cream, as it is a texture I enjoy using – a cream but not too thick, and with a nice slip on skin.

"mad

Did not notice any additional glow

I love using Vitamin C products as you will know, so having a cream that has Vitamin C in it is a plus point, but not necessarily a deal maker for me. I am much more relaxed about my moisturisers, in that I choose a moisturiser that moisturises my skin, and I let my serums do all the heavy lifting.

Having Vitamin C in the cream therefore, is a bonus for me. However, despite regular of the cream, I did not personally notice my skin looking any more radiant or more even toned. It must be noted that I’m using other serums at this time.

I do appreciate that the Vitamin C will work as an antixodant for my skin, which isn’t something you can notice off hand. If you don’t use anything with Vitamin C in your skincare routine, you may notice an improvement in your skin which I think is great!

Scent is a little strong

The only major drawback for me is that the scent is a little strong. While Mad Hippie products are fragrance-free (meaning no added fragrance), they do have oils in there that have a natural fragrance. It isn’t unpleasant, by any means, but it is quite strong.

To my nose, it smells of sweet flowers and honey, which can appeal to those who enjoy scents of this nature. But for me, it was a little strong. For this reason, after my initial testing period, I use it every other night, to give my nose a rest 😛 I love the cream, I just wish the scent was more tempered 🙁

Oh one more funny thing. It comes packaged in a lovely amber glass jar and metal cover, which I love. It also comes with a wooden spoon that confuses me. While I get that some people don’t like dipping their fingers in their cream (It’s ok to do so, trust me 😛 ) the dip of the spoon is so deep that it isn’t easy to get the cream out of the scoop. It isn’t like a spatula that you can just smear the product onto your palm. I don’t use it, but it looks cute in photos LOL! 😛

IN A NUTSHELL

The Mad Hippie Triple C Night Cream is an emollient cream that does not feel heavy not leave a greasy after-feel on skin. It sinks nicely into the skin, and is especially comfortable and comforting on dry skin. While it is formulated for all skin types, it might be best enjoyed by those with normal-dry skin, or for oily-combination skin types, to only use a thin layer at night. The cream is very moisturising and hydrating, and makes skin feel and look better and more plumped. All creams that moisturise your skin well will make it look this way. If you don’t already use a Vitamin C serum, then the Vitamin C in the cream may help your skin look brighter and more even toned with regular use. The main drawback for me is the scent, which is natural, but sweet and to my nose, strong. I would be more comfortable if the scent was more tempered.
