I picked up the Yeouth Vitamin C & E Serum on iHerb without knowing too much about it. It was one of those purchases on a whim, if you may.

"yeouth

It was pretty affordable, and I’m always curious about a new Vitamin C serum. But primarily, it was affordable, and as much as I love my luxury skincare products, I too love a good budget find! 😀

Incidentally, I’ve been approached by Yeouth to ‘review’ their products, for which they offered me credit to purchase on iHerb, and then post a review of it. I declined the offer as it was far too much trouble than it was worth. The products aren’t very expensive, and I had already purchased them anyway. However, this has resulted in my viewing online and Instagram reviews of Yeouth products with a jaundiced eye. Most people will not disclose this fact of ‘sponsorship’ and while I have nothing against it, I do think it is appropriate to disclose it for transparency, so readers are able to better evaluate your review.

And now, on to what I think of the Yeouth Vitamin C & E Serum 🙂

Yeouth Vitamin C & E Serum with Hyaluronic Acid

Yeouth says that they were founded in 2015 by a cosmetic chemist with over 30 years of experience, and are made in the USA. Personally, I haven’t come across the brand before this.

Their range of products aren’t very big, but they look simple in terms of ingredients, with a focus on key ingredients named on the label.

The Yeouth Vitamin C & E Serum is formulated to both nourish skin with the Vitamin C & E and Hyaluronic Acid to moisturize skin. However, they do not specify what the percentage of Vitamin C is in the serum. If you’re an ingredient peeper, this might bug you. I’m curious to know, but it doesn’t bug me, because I like looking at the formula as a whole, and how it feels or how it reacts on my skin.

Vitamin C brightens skin and helps lighten dark spots and hyperpigmentation, as we all know. Vitamin E helps repair damage and defend and strengthen skin against further damage. Our old friend Hyaluronic Acid boosts skin hydration.

As a whole, the Yeouth Vitamin C & E Serum boosts skin hydration while brightening and protecting skin. It all sounds really good doesn’t it? 🙂

"yeouth

Light, easily absorbed gel

The product itself is a clear gel-like serum. There is no smell and colour. It’s totally clear.

The gel itself absorbs easily on skin (I prefer using it on damp skin, which I’ll explain below) and I personally do not find it sticky. I have spoken to some other people who do find it sticky, so perhaps it is about tolerance levels.

I have dry skin, and the gel absorbs nicely and quickly. I use 1-2 pumps, depending on how decadent I’m feeling 😛

Apply on damp skin for best effect

I personally like to apply the Yeouth Vitamin C & E Serum on damp skin, because of the hyaluronic acid content. Hyaluronic acid is an ingredient that grabs on and holds onto water, and it is there to keep your skin hydrated.

My rationale therefore is that if there is some water for it to grab on to, then it should function better at hydrating the skin. Secondly, applying products on damp skin usually helps it absorb better and more quickly, without the sticky after-feel.

What is the Vitamin C percentage?

This isn’t stated on the product, and I cannot seem to find any information on what it is.

The Vitamin C used is Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, which is a water-soluble derivative of Vitamin C. It is a more stable version of Vitamin C, and an effective antioxidant (which might explain the clear glass packaging that many people seem averse to) but it is also less effective than a product with L-Ascorbic Acid (like my favourite Timeless Vitamin C Serum)

"yeouth

Does the Yeouth Vitamin C & E Serum brighten skin?

This is hard for me to judge, purely because Vitamin C serums are a part of my daily skincare routine. For this reason, it is nearly impossible for me to tell you, with any honesty, that a product noticeably brightens my skin tone, unless it does.

For the most part, I treat Vitamin C serums as a ‘maintenance’ for my skin, keeping the skintone even and bright, and keeping it strong.

The Yeouth Vitamin C & E Serum falls in this category.

I don’t mind using it, because it’s affordable. My skin isn’t any worse off from using it, and it seems to maintain the clarity of my skin despite regular sun exposure. The hyaluronic acid does keep my skin hydrated, although I do boost things up with another hydration serum on top.

RELATED READING: If you’re exposed to the sun a lot, these tips on how I protect my skin after sun exposure may help READ HERE

If I were to compare this to Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E + Ferulic Acid serum, I’d say that the Timeless one is far more effective, if you’re looking to actively brighten your skin and lighten/fade dark spots. It is however, a little more unstable as it uses L-Ascorbic Acid, so can go off more quickly if you aren’t careful.

I personally have no complaints about using the Yeouth Vitamin C & E Serum, and it is one that I might suggest to someone on a budget. Both Vitamin C and E are beneficial to the skin, and for protecting and strengthening your skin barrier.

It is also affordable, which I think is important, as you will be less likely to skimp on product, rendering it ineffective. Any results however, might be slower to achieve, as I believe that the percentage of Vitamin C isn’t very high as compared to other products that are listed as 20% strength. However, those products are also more pricey, so that is a balance you must achieve.

IN A NUTSHELL

The Yeouth Vitamin C & E Serum is clear, colourless gel serum that absorbs easily and quickly on skin. I personally find that it absorbs better on damp skin. For me, I don’t quite treat it as a Vitamin C serum, as I cannot say if it’s actively brightening my skin or keeping my sun spots at bay. However, my skin tone is kept clear, and I do think that it has contributed to strengthening my skin and keeping it hydrated, which is good for an all-rounder product. It might be a good one for someone easing into using Vitamin C, or who just wants a product that does a few things to strengthen skin and slow down visible aging. It’s easy to use, and comfortable and affordable and sometimes, that’s enough.

PROS:
Easily absorbs into skin
No scent or colour
Keeps skin hydrated
Maintains clarity of skin
May brighten skin over time with regular use

CONS:
Not easily available
May not suit someone looking for a more concentrated Vitamin C serum

WHO WILL LIKE THIS: Anyone who wants a simple, non-irritating serum that hydrates, brightens and protects skin

PRICE: US$15.95 (Approx. RM67) for 30ml

WHERE TO BUY: iHerb

For those interested, here is the ingredients list for Yeouth Vitamin C & E Serum. There is no percentage listed for how much Vitamin C is in the product.

Aqua, Butylene Glycol, Polysorbate 20, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Phenoxyethanol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice.

The ingredients list is however, short and focused on the key ingredients – Vitamin C, E and Hyaluronic Acid. I reckon it should be good for those who have more sensitive skin, as it is fairly gentle and non-irritating.

Have you tried this Yeouth Vitamin C & E Serum? Have you tried anything else from Yeouth?

Their products are fairly affordable. I’ve also since picked up a couple of other serums from iHerb and will have a go at them. Their prices are too good to resist! 🙂
