Last week, I showed you some pieces from the Chanel Collection Libre Holiday 2017 collection. I told you then, that while some of the items there were noteworthy, the true stars of the collection were the lipsticks. They were so noteworthy, I felt they deserved their very own post!

The full name of the Chanel Holiday 2017 collection is Collection Libre Numéros Rouges. The stars, that are thrust to the forefront and centre, are a selection of Chanel’s popular Rouge Allure lipsticks, in a festive, limited edition red lacquered case. They usually come in black, as you will see here, but the red is beautiful! Rouge Allure lipsticks are the ones that you have to depress, and the tube will pop up for you to pull out, as I’ve demonstrated above. It is a very sleek packaging, as there are no protruding bits at all.

This Christmas, Chanel aims to help you find your perfect red lip, by presenting you with 4 shades in 2 textures, from which to pick. I however, unfortunately only have 3 to show you. But I did stop by the Chanel boutique, before I received these, and had a little play, so I’ll share some swatches of all 4 below. In many ways, this focus on red for the lips reminds me of Lucia Pica’s first Chanel collection, Le Rouge. I’m guessing red is her favourite colour to work with then 😀

Chanel has made their festive lipsticks in the Rouge Allure range, and provided us with 2 formula. The regular Rouge Allure formula, which has more shine, and the Rouge Allure Velvet, which is a more matte formula. I have said before, that I am not a fan of matte lipstick in general, but the Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet is an exception. Not only are the colours beautiful, they do not dry out the lips, nor settle into lip lines, and above all, do not look TOO matte, as to crinkle up your lips like dehydrated worms 😛 It is a beautiful formula.

I was kindly sent 3 shades to share with you, which are imaginatively named No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3. The fourth which is not pictured here, is… you guessed it, No. 4 LOL!

Here are the swatches I took with my phone in store, of the 4 different lipsticks above.

It isn’t easy to see the different tonal differences, but I think you get a rough idea of how it looks. No. 4 is the most different in shade. While I would not wear it, I have seen it being worn on warmer skin tones, and it is beautiful. If you can handle warm browns or reds in your makeup, you can probably pull this one off.

These are closer up swatches I did of the 3 I own. The shade difference between these 3 are not very obvious in this photo, but in person, you will notice the different tonal differences, to enable you to pick the red to best suit your skin tone.

It is also not noticeable that the Rouge Allure Velvet is a matte lipstick, because it does not actually look a dull, flat matte. If you can imagine a piece of velvet cloth. It is matte, but there is some shine, as the light hits it, so it offers up some interest as the cloth moves. Ditto the Rouge Allure Velvet. It is not a flat matte, that blots out your lips and makes it look flat. It makes your lips look plump and lovely, just without too much shine.

I also feel a little silly putting up these photos of me wearing them, because again, the tonal differences are not too noticeable in my photos. I don’t have as fancy-ass a camera as many professional bloggers, nor studio lighting, as I work only with what Mother Nature, Father Time and Brother Opportunity deign to give me. So you will just have to make do with my amateur attempts yes? 😛

The most noticeable difference you may observe is that No. 1 is a more shiny lip as compared to No. 2 and 3. No. 3, if you notice, makes my teeth look whiter. This is due to the blue tones in the lipstick, and as a colour, it has a cooler tone. No. 2 has a warmer tone, and this reflects against my skin. I can usually wear most tones (except orange based reds) but blue toned red lipstick suits me best 🙂

The rest of my makeup are Cle de Peau Radiant Fluid Foundation, Nars Soft Matte Concealer, Guerlain Meteorites Perles de Nuit, Chanel Ombre Premiere in Silver Screen blended with the deep green from the Trait de Charactere eyeshadow palette. Brows and liner are the Chanel Brow Pencil and Chanel Signature liquid eyeliner. Cheeks are Chanel Coco Codes blush.

I love these lipsticks from the Chanel Collection Libre Numeros Rouges collection, and if you too love red lipstick, you will need one of these. I don’t say this lightly! 😛 If nothing else, you’d want one just for the beautiful red and gold packaging, that is festive and gives you a lovely rush of joy when you pull it out for touch-ups 🙂 Maybe after you’ve paused too long under the mistletoe, y’know… 😉

IN A NUTSHELL

The Chanel Collection Libre Numeros Rouges Holiday 2017 collection focuses on red lips, by introducing 4 beautiful red lipsticks in the Rouge Allure and Rouge Allure Velvet formula. The red and gold packaging is festive and beautiful, and the formula is the usual Chanel quality. I love how they apply without tugging on lips, and they are not drying at all. Colour is very pigmented, and you are left with beautiful, opaque, red lips after just one swipe from the bullet on your lips. The 4 lipsticks are designed so everyone can find their perfect red lipstick, and if you are still looking, you just might! My favourite is No. 3 😀

PROS: Not drying, Pigmented, Flattering colours to suit most skin tones, Beautiful packaging

CONS: Limited Edition, Pricey

WHO WILL LIKE THIS: Anyone who wants to find a red lipstick to suit them, Anyone who already loves red lipstick

PRICE: US$37 (MYR to follow)

WHERE TO BUY: Chanel beauty boutiques and counters, Chanel.com, Nordstrom

I am partial to a red lip, as many of you are aware, so these were right up my alley! I love them all, and will wear them. If you feel it’s too intimidating to go with a bold red, just apply a thin layer with a brush, blot off, then go over with a light gloss or balm to tone the colour down. I do think these are absolutely worth a splurge. But you only need 1, so get thee to a Chanel counter soon! 😀

Paris B

Last week, I showed you some pieces from the Chanel Collection Libre Holiday 2017 collection.
