Jojoba – that’s pronounced “ho-ho-ba”, in case you’re wondering. But I’m sure you knew that already didn’t you?

Early in the year, I was offered by a local brand, Kopara, to try their Golden Jojoba Oil. What really made me say yes to them, were 2 reasons. First, they recognised that I preferred using blended facial oils, and yet they decided to take a chance. Second, this oil was very affordable, and I’m all for good quality, affordable products that are easily found locally.

Enter therefore the Kopara Golden Jojoba Oil – a no fuss, no muss, simple oil that has a multitude of uses. It took me a while to figure out what I thought of it, for, as I have noted often, my preference lie with blended facial oils, that I feel work better for my skin.

However, with the Kopara Golden Jojoba Oil, what I found was a very nice starter oil for those who may be just starting out with facial oils, and aren’t sure what to go for, or how to use them. Because it is affordable, and easily available locally, this is something I feel worth looking at, if you want to try an oil for the first time.

The key reason I say that the Kopara Golden Jojoba Oil makes a good starter oil, is because of the texture. Unlike the more common rosehip oil, this one has a much lighter texture. It does not feel like you’re slathering oil on your skin, which I know can put off many people.

For this reason, this is an oil that may appeal to someone with oily or combination skin types, because of the light texture. You can use it on its own, as a moisturiser, to hydrate skin and restore the balance of your skin.

True to its name, the oil is a beautiful golden colour, and it comes packaged in a lovely brown bottle with a dropper. The dropper is quite sensitive, so you can dispense just the right amount you need. For the face, most people would be happy with 2-3 drops, and the lightweight oil sinks in quite easily into the skin.

If the thought of putting oil on your skin is a little off-putting …. the facial oils boat must have left you behind LOL! Facial oils are huge these days, and there are many ways you can use them. If you’re uncertain, try these tips I shared for using facial oils, a while ago. In gist, they are:-

I even use facial oils as a mask or overnight treatment, or even with clay masks for an added boost. I am always experimenting when it comes to facial oils!

For me however, with my drier skin type, I found the Kopara Golden Jojoba Oil insufficient when used on its own. It sinks in very nicely and quickly into my skin, but it does not my skin the moisture it needs, when I use it the normal way I use all facial oils. I do find myself using more – 5 drops as opposed to 2-3 drops – and then sealing it with a thicker moisturiser.

But what I quite liked using this oil for, was as a blending oil. Because this is a single origin oil, as opposed to the blended oils I love (like Pai Rosehip which I am never without), and because of its lovely lightweight texture, I found it perfect for blending with foundation.

Now, I know you may think that’s weird, but it really isn’t. Blending a drop or two of facial oil with your liquid foundation not only helps it apply better, it also gives your skin a beautiful glow. This is a tip that is especially helpful for those with drier skin, or who feel like their foundation is too thick. To thin down a high coverage foundation, this is a great trick too.

I used to use any old oil I had, but I found that I preferred using the Kopara Golden Jojoba Oil for this purpose, because it was so lightweight. It didn’t mess as much with the texture of my foundations, and it somehow looked better. Perhaps, it’s because it absorbed more quickly?

The other thing I sometimes use it for, is as a carrier oil, to blend with essential oils. I don’t always blend my own, but I’ve been having trouble sleeping for a while, and lavender oil helps me relax. I’ve run out of a lavender body oil (it’s incredibly hard to get a good one that doesn’t smell powdery and ick!) so what I do is blend some lavender essential oil into the Kopara Golden Jojoba Oil, and use it on my arms before bed. The lightweight oil sinks in easily into my skin 😀 I love using body oils (I prefer it to body lotions) so this does feel a little light for me, but hey, it does the job in a pinch.

For me therefore, the Kopara Golden Jojoba Oil doesn’t function so much as a facial oil, as it does as a multi-use oil. You can use it all sorts of things – if you have long hair, a tiny bit at the ends helps moisturise hair and tame flyaways, or if you shave, you could use this as well, and naturally, if you have oily or combination skin, you may appreciate its texture for use on your face. I’m told it can also help with acne but I can’t vouch for that, so proceed at your own peril! 🙂

IN A NUTSHELL

The Kopara Golden Jojoba Oil is a lightweight golden single source oil. The texture is light, and it absorbs quite easily into the skin, making it a good starter oil for those who are only just trying out facial oils, or who may have oily or combination skin types and prefer a light weight product. For drier skin types like mine, I find it a little lacking. But I do find it useful for other uses e.g. mixing it into foundation or as a carrier oil for essential oils. It is easily purchased locally and not too expensive, and I think a worthwhile product to try, if you want to see what the fuss is about with facial oils 🙂

PROS: Affordable, Lightweight texture absorbs easily into skin, No scent, Not irritating to skin, Possible to use in many different ways

CONS: Dry skin types may find it a little insufficient on its own if not paired with a moisturiser

WHO WILL LIKE THIS: Anyone who has oily or combination skin and who wants a lightweight facial oil, Anyone new to using facial oils and want something light in texture, Anyone who wants a good quality carrier oil for their essential oils
