I have a sneaky suspicion that I might have just found another skincare brand that can do me no wrong. Or at least, do me little wrong. (You already know the other one) Incidentally, it is another fairly niche natural skincare brand with organic ingredients. Might this be a new trend for me?

The odd thing also, is that this new skincare brand I’m currently a little more than enamoured with, also hails from the Southern Hemisphere. Hmm curiouser and curiouser!

"skin

The brand in question is Skin Creamery, which hails from South Africa. My first encounter with it was through the Everyday Cream that you can use on face and body, and it really impressed me. I still use it, although as a hand and body cream more than a face cream these days. That said, now and again, I use it for a basic moisturiser, and it’s all good.

The second thing I tried out was the Skin Creamery Facial Hydrating Oil. Ah, facial oils! I took a while getting around to this, but the moment I put it on my skin, I knew I was onto a winner and it’s now taken up permanent residence on my dresser! 😀

As Skin Creamery hails from South Africa, one of their key ingredients in their range (their range is thus far, small but compact) is the use of baobab oil. Baobab is a tree found in Africa, and has hydrating as well as medicinal properties, and has been used by the local people for generations.

Drawing on this, the key oils in the Skin Creamery Facial Hydrating Oil are Jojoba oil, Melon Seed Oil and Baobab Oil. The full ingredient list is below if you’re interested what else is in there.

"skin

The Facial Hydrating Oil is a golden yellow clear oil that is housed in a beautifully simple, yet elegant lightly frosted glass bottle. It is a square bottle and fairly large, larger than most bottles as it contains 60ml, double most facial oils that usually come in at 30ml. Thus, while it can seem a little pricey, you do get more product.

I love the solid glass bottle and the slight heft although I’m sure there will be detractors who disagree. I love glass packaging anything 🙂 The product is dispensed through dropper. I find that even when I depress it fully, it only picks up about 1/3 of the dropper, so I do wonder how effective it’ll be once I hit the bottom of the bottle. That said, it is very easy to control the dispensation, and how much I need.

You see, what some people may not like as well, is that this Facial Hydrating Oil is a true oil, with an oil texture. It is not a dry oil. It truly is an oil-oil, and I love textures like that, so naturally, this sat well with me. You only really need about 2 drops each use.

I kid you not. The texture spreads easily and absorbs easily into skin as well, and really, 2 drops is sufficient. 3 if you don’t mind a slightly heavier texture (I use about 3 drops each time).

Skin Creamery suggests that you apply the oil with damp hands. This makes sense, because I’ve often suggested this to those starting out with facial oils. You can spray some facial mist on your palms, drop 2 drops of Facial Hydrating Oil, warm up and then apply to your face. Or, you can do what I do, which is to apply it to damp skin. I spray a facial mist, then apply the oil, massaging it into my skin.

However, if I use an active serum underneath, I use the oil after the serum and before my moisturiser. I don’t mind slightly heavier textures on my skin, so I’m fine with it as I find that it absorbs well, but if you’re fussy about how your skin feels and looks, then mist your skin and then apply or use damp hands. Sometimes, if I’m lazy, I add a drop or two into my moisturiser – saves a step.

The other thing I like is the scent, which again, I’m not sure if everyone will. To me, it has a slightly earthy, herbal scent and I find it calming. It can however, be a little strong. Not that I mind, but if it matters to you, do take note.

"skin

But you’re thinking, Ok, so this sounds like a very nice oil, but what does it do?

Well, everything it says on the bottle. It hydrates. I find this a pretty regular facial oil, in that it gives my skin just that added kick of hydration that my slightly dry skin needs. It makes my skin feel very comfortable, and I wake up to soft skin. I’ve found that my skin works better with blended oils than pure singular oils so I like this.

The other thing I’ve noticed is that it seems to soothe my skin. My skin has been going a little bonkers in recent times. I’m not sure what’s happening since I haven’t changed very much in my routine, but it’s just decided that the glowy period was over, and I should now be visited by the twin Gods of Irritated and Dull Skin. Ugh! I’ve dialed back on my skincare a lot, and thus far, this oil has helped keep my slightly irritated skin calm. I know, because it’s about all I use on most nights!

Sometimes, I do a mask with this (which I’ll detail in a future post) which helps calm down my skin further, yet keeps it hydrated. I don’t know if it’s our weather here either, as it’s been burning hot in the day, with occasional torrential rain in the evenings, and all that really plays merry hell with my health and skin. Still, having a product that I know will keep it calm(er) helps my state of mind.

So yes, I think this is an absolutely amazing facial oil because I love so much about it – the packaging, the aesthetics, the texture, the scent and how well it works for me. I do think it deserves a lot of love, and well, it’s gotten permanent residence status on my dresser, so it will, from me! 😀

IN A NUTSHELL

The Skin Creamery Facial Hydrating Oil is a facial oil from natural skincare brand with organic ingredients, Skin Creamery, that hails from South Africa. The texture is a little heavy and the directions recommend that you bled it with a bit of water to make it easier to apply to skin and to help skin absorb better. You can also apply it to damp skin, as I sometimes do. 2-3 drops is more than sufficient for most people as it spreads very easily, and I like how it almost instantly hydrates and calms my skin and keeps it supple. I also like the slightly herbal scent. I love a lot about it and I use it very often now that it has a permanent home on my dresser!

PROS: Absorbs easily into skin with a little massage, Hydrates skin and keeps it supple, Only a little is needed, Dropper dispenses sufficient product each time, Beautiful aesthetic, Good value for money

CONS: Scent is a little strong and may not sit well with everyone, Slightly heavy oil texture may not appeal to everyone although it absorbs easily, Glass packaging makes it less portable

WHO WILL LIKE THIS: Anyone who loves facial oils, Anyone who wants a good hydrating facial oil from a natural and organic sources

PRICE: RM169 | RS295 for 60ml

WHERE TO BUY: Buy online at Savanna Goodness (MY & SG) or in South Africa from the Skin Creamery website. I’ve also spotted Skin Creamery products at M+ Pharmacy at Bangsar Village if you’d prefer to check it out in person.

Here is the ingredient list for the Skin Creamery Facial Hydrating Oil:-

"skin

Have you tried this product or anything from Skin Creamery before?

The product range is rather small for now, but pretty complete. I’m now really excited about trying other products in the range, after 2 hits out of the ball park. It takes a lot to impress me these days and this does! 😀
