Truth to tell, I haven’t been very excited about many new makeup items for a while. But for some reason, this, rather unassuming, eyeshadow palette from Chanel grabbed my attention. It is the Codes Subtils 278 Les 4 Ombres Multi-Effect Quadra Eyeshadow Quad (RM230 | US$61), and it is part of the Coco Codes collection for Spring 2017 and is, rather unfortunately, limited edition.

I managed to hunt down one very recently (it was sold out when I first wanted it, but if you call around, you may still be able to find one) and I just knew that I’d have to give it a very quick shout out, because if you love neutral eyeshadow with just a hint of smokiness, you will be head-over-heels for this one.

Like all the post-2014 Chanel Les 4 Ombre eyeshadow palettes, the quality is sublime. The texture is soft, pigmented and easy to blend without fall out. The shimmer is understated and flattering, and the colours are rich (or as rich as they can be). Like Poesie, I can see myself wearing this nearly everyday and if I were the sort to hoard back-ups, this is a palette I’d have multiple back-ups of.

I suppose you could say that I love it! 😛 I don’t have a lot to say without gushing, so I’ll be sharing a quick look I did to show you why I love this palette so much.

The Codes Subtils palette swatches beautifully.

2 of the shadows, the pale warm pink and the light gold are noticeably shimmery. But they aren’t overwhelming. They just make a lovely highlight and when blended over the deep khaki, is absolutely stunning. The deep khaki has a slight golden undertone but is semi-matte. The brown has a little shimmer and is noticeably warmer than the other colours.

I had the impression when I played with this at the counter, that this was a cooler toned palette as compared to Codes Elegants. However, I’ve since decided that this is a fairly warm-toned palette as well. However, that deep khaki has a fairly neutral tone, so it grounds the warmth of the gold and brown.

The colours are very easy to pick up with brushes and they blend like a dream. I can forsee being able to use this palette for very easy day looks, as well as to transition it into a night look palette. It is THAT versatile, and really, I can’t get enough of it!

Here is how I wore it, alongside what else I wore in this look. I thought it might be helpful 😛

I haven’t been this enamoured with an eyeshadow palette for a long time, and it’s a bit of a pity that it’s a limited edition product. If Chanel could please make this (and Poesie) permanent, I’d be their fan for life! 😛

If you were better or more adventurous with applying eyeshadow, you will be able to create some more eye-catching looks. As it stands, I keep things simple – that way mistakes are minimized! LOL 😀

Here’s what else I wore in this look. It certainly takes a village to give the impression that you didn’t take that much effort! 😛
