Wanna know my lazy secret? It’s about the Pai Skincare BioRegenerate Rosehip oil

I’ve been promising some of you that I’d talk about this product, for quite a while now. Sorry for my tardiness, but finally, I’ve sorted out what I wanted to say, and more importantly, sorted out the photos! LOL! I swear, the latter takes a lot more time to sort out than my muddle of thoughts!

This product is the Pai Skincare Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil, and I don’t know where you can get it in store in Malaysia. I had to get it out there, so if it’s available locally and you know where, please do share. I can tell you however, that you can get it online, and that this is one of my favourite face oils.

But it wasn’t always that way. When I first received it from Pure Tincture about a year ago, I didn’t like it one bit. So what changed?

Well, mindset and technique, for starters.

I first got this when I was still feeling my way around using facial oils. I was starting to get acquainted with them, but I had yet to figure out the proper way to use them. I also knew that my skin had a tendency to reject rosehip oil. I’d sometimes breakout or get clogged pores. This was the case when I first used this oil.

The bright orange oil is a little thick and what happened was that I was overzealous the first few times I used it, so I’d apply a lot on my skin. You only really need about 2 drops if you’re using it under moisturiser or mixed with moisturiser.

When I figured out how best to use face oils, and after a quick chat with Phil (that guy knows his skincare!) who loves this oil, I came back to give this oil a second shot and the next thing you know, I included it as one of the things I enjoyed using 4 months after I got it; and it’s now one of my favourite oils too!

Rosehip oil is known to help lighten scars and fine lines and to generally repair skin. Pai Skincare says that their Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil is rich in Trans-Retinoic Acid which converts into Vitamin A to basically act like a retinol, but without the irritation of a chemical retinol. Plus, the blend of oils is more potent than just mere cold pressed rosehip oil.

But what is it that makes me like this oil? Well, for starters, when I’ve had a rough day or when I want to put on a good face the next morning, I turn to this oil. There are a few ways in which I use it both daily or as a treatment.

As part of my night skincare routine, I found that regular use did help make a difference to my skin. My skin felt more nourished and more hydrated and looked better. It seemed to act like a repair serum to protect and nourish my skin and I really liked it! (I said so back at the end of 2014!) The texture is fairly thick and if you don’t massage it in properly or sleep in an air-conditioned room, I will tell you that it can be quite uncomfortable. Don’t be overzealous – 2 drops is more than sufficient and you must work it into your skin for best results.

Also, while it says that it’s suitable for all skintypes, I think those with oily skin or breakout prone skin may want to be a little careful with this. Use half the amount if you really want to use it, because it is a good product. But those with dry or mature (older, just say it 😛 ) skin will derive greater benefits, the way I have. It does help lighten fine lines, but you must be diligent with it. Because it’s a natural product, it takes time for results to show.

But what I really like this oil for is for a facial massage and overnight mask. You see, I’m not always as diligent about my evening skincare routine as I like to be. Some days I get lazy. Or I reach home late and I’m tired and I just want to get into bed pronto! Yet, I can’t possibly not treat my skin right?

So, this oil serves as my cheat product! 😀 Now you know my secret 😛

I’ll cleanse and mist my skin and then take a generous quantity of this oil (6-8 drops) spread and warm it up in the palm of my hands and then apply it to my skin, lightly massaging as I go. Then, I leave it on. Yes, it will feel a bit oily and yes, if you are not careful you may mark your pillow case. But the results the next morning are worth it!

Whenever I do a “mask” like this, I wake up with skin that feels plumped and hydrated and it looks healthy and glowing and feels smooth to the touch. No, it’s not the oil that fakes the glow because by morning I have no more oil on my skin. But it just makes my skin look lovely and rested and above all, good. It’s my repair after a rough day (or night) and it’s my secret for putting on a good face the next day. I’m not sure what’s in there, but none of my other oils give me the same results (and you know I use many different oils!)

But there are 2 things I have to mention as well. First, the scent. I find the scent a little strange and it reminds me of pickles, or Chinese preserved fruit (if you eat junk food, and I love preserved fruit, you’d know what I mean! 😀 ). It has also been described as “nutty”. It isn’t unpleasant, but it’s strange to me.

The second thing is the white plastic pump. I find my pump quite stiff so it’s quite hard to press it to pick up the oil in the dropper, so it’s fortuitous that you only need a couple of drops at most, because that’s all you’d get. Also, the white pump thingy will get stained with regular use, unless you clean it very regularly (ahem! As you can see, I didn’t 😛 ) so over time, it won’t look very pleasant.

But none of what I dislike about it affects the quality of the product, which I think is top-notch. I like what a multi-tasking product this is for me, and how well my skin takes to it. It isn’t for everyone, I’ll say this, but if you are looking for a product that can perk you skin up just that little bit, and don’t mind an oily face at night then you might want to consider this one. It’s one I’m keeping firmly in my stash!

IN A NUTSHELL

The Pai Skincare Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil is a blend of rosehip oils that is supposed to be more potent and more effective for skin. I like using this as a ‘serum’ under moisturiser, blended with moisturiser or more regularly, as a perk-me-up overnight mask. It helps keep my skin looking and feeling nourished and hydrated and when I use it as a mask, my skin looks amazing the next morning. Yes, a serum can do that too, but I need to layer on product, as opposed to slapping on a thick layer of this oil and heading to bed. A lazy routine, but one that benefits my skin! 😀

PROS: Makes my skin feel and look nourished, hydrated and glowing, Can be used as an overnight treatment mask for hydrated, glowing skin in the morning, Makes tired or dull skin look better with regular use

CONS: Scent can take some getting used to, Dropper pump is quite stiff, Thick product needs to be properly massaged into skin to feel most comfortable

WHO WILL LIKE THIS: Anyone who wants to reap the most out of a rosehip oil, Anyone who doesn’t mind a thicker, more sticky oil or who has dry or mature skin

Here is the ingredient list, which some of you maybe happy to note, is a short one:-

Ingredients: Rosa Canina (Rosehip CO2) Seed Extract*, Rosa Canina (Rosehip CO2) Fruit Extract*, Mixed Tocopherols (Natural Vitamin E), Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Extract* *Certified Organic by the Soil Association (Organically produced 99.8% of product). Suitable for Vegans. Not tested on animals.

With regular nightly use, I’d wager that this bottle can easily last you a whole year. I used this regularly for about 3 months before now using it mostly as a treatment mask about once a week, or whenever I feel lazy, or whenever I feel like my skin could do with some perking up. I think it’s a very good product, and it truly deserves the raves it gets 🙂

Update 2018: I’ve since used up 2 bottles of this oil and am on bottle #3. Suffice to say, it’s a keeper!

I’ve used regular rosehip oil off and on through the years but it always had a tendency to clog my pores and break me out. I’m not sure if it was technique (misting, that’s the secret!) but this one no longer does. You’d think leaving it on as a mask would kill my skin, but in fact it does the total opposite! I love it for my lazy days 😀

Paris B

Pai Skincare Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil Price: S$50 | US$36.36 for 30ml Availability: Pure Tincture (Singapore) and Pai Skincare both ship internationally

I’ve been promising some of you that I’d talk about this product, for quite a while now.
