YSL Love Collection Compact Powder and Blush – Is it love?

December 23, 2009 Paris B 18 Comments

Before I go on, do note that this limited edition compact powder from YSL Love Collection is a previous release and no longer available in stores. I got mine from StrawberryNET.com and this review is as a result of requests from readers who might want to get it from there too.

The YSL Love Collection Powder is gorgeous to look at. As I said before, its hard to defile something that looks so pretty but at the end of the day, we should use what we purchase (unless you’re a collector) so I grit my teeth, took a picture for posterity and defiled it.

The compact is not very big but the pink heart is quite big so the powder areas around the sides of the pink heart can be a bit of a bother to get to if you just want to use the powder unless you have a small powder brush – and how many of us have that?

The pink heart is very sweet. I love the colour as a blush because its pigmented enough to use as one. I use a regular blush brush and tap off some excess before applying as blush. It does take about 2 layers for the colour to show up nicely but when it does its beautiful – it lights your cheeks with a glow from within.

I have also used it as an all over face powder but you have to be quite careful when using it this way. I’ve shown you some swatches below.

YSL Love Collection powder and Bliss Blood Orange set from Strawberrynet

December 18, 2009 Paris B 15 Comments

StrawberryNET.com has an extra special additional 10% off their Christmas sets so I knew it was a good time to pick up something I’d been eyeing for a while. 2 somethings actually 😛

One is the Bliss Blood Orange body wash set and the other is the YSL Love Collection compact powder. The latter is simply stunning! This YSL Love Collection compact powder was limited edition from a couple of years back.

Doesn’t it look so cute? You are supposed to be able to use it all over as a face brightener or as compact powder. However, I tested this the day after I got it (yes I defiled it!) and the pink heart makes such a gorgeous pink blush! Its light and sheer and so pretty! Sigh… 🙂

As a compact powder, its hard to manage to find a brush small enough to just pick up the powder surrounding the blush (although a sponge puff comes with it), but if you use a large fluffy brush and a light hand, and pick up the pink and powder and apply all over, there are some skin brightening qualities. The powder is super fine and light and makes my skin feel so nice! Do let me know if you want a more indepth review on this one because its not available in stores anymore although you can still find it online. RRP was US$60 but I got it for US$32 on StrawberryNET.com (sale).

The other item I picked up is the Bliss Blood Orange and White Pepper bath set.

Not quite touched by YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch Highlighter pen

November 30, 2009 Paris B 35 Comments

ysl_touche_eclat

When YSL went on 40% sale at counters in Malaysia, I took the opportunity to pick up the iconic YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch highlighter pen. Its touted as an liquid highlighter with illuminating qualities so it conceals slightly and highlights at one go.

For many, the YSL Touche Eclat highlighter pen is a magic wand that erases imperfections at a touch. For me, I’m wondering what the hype is about.

Yes, its a dinky little tool with brush tip applicator that you can tote around on the go. Good for travel but otherwise nothing too special for me. Also, many fail to mention that its not a twist type clicky pen mechanism. Oh no! YSL, being luxury opts for a push-button clicky system like that of a ball point pen. See that black button at the back of the pen? That’s where you press down.

Now I’d like you to imagine this. You have just slathered on your moisturizer and sunscreen in the morning and then you reach for your YSL Touche Eclat highlighter pen. You click it as you would a ball pen, but that high gloss gold surface slips over and over due to the lotions from your hands. Its frustrating and I dislike it. Also, did I mention the gold body attracts fingerprints better than any fingerprinting tape the CSI use?

Updates: Dior Flat Top brush available and YSL not pulling out

September 1, 2009 Paris B 15 Comments

Some official updates I’ve received from Dior and YSL after some queries from readers.

DiorSkin Nude Foundation Brush WILL be available at counters

Diorskin flat top brush

The Diorskin Nude Foundation flat top brush will now be available at Dior counters this month. It will retail at RM115. Eeekssss!!! Tempation!!!

Works beautifully with the DiorSkin Nude loose powder foundation or blush especially since my Anna Sui flat top brush is going kaput. Dammit! I was not going to buy anything more until my birthday 😛

YSL Cosmetics is NOT pulling out of Malaysia

No doubt that YSL counters are running very tempting clearance sales at this time and that, plus the lack of the YSL Fall/Winter 2009 collection made me and some readers worry that YSL may be pulling out of Malaysia.

Well, word from the horse’s mouth is that YSL is NOT pulling out. Clearance sales are routine to clear stock and news are that the new collection will be at counters later this month. Whew!

Update: They were bluffing after all. YSL has left Malaysia since 2009 and we have yet to know if they’ll come back.

Stay beautiful
