Korean Beauty : Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Clay Mask and Tony Moly Simply Style Slim Mascara

November 15, 2011 Paris B 20 Comments

A while ago, I was sent a couple of items from 2 Korean brands to try out. We see many Korean brands available these days, but there are so many brands available in Korea that are not yet available overseas. When I was in Seoul, the choices were mind boggling and seriously. there’s no way to know what to buy at all! Add to that the fact that many Korean brands are for the most part, very affordable and the choices get harder.

The 2 brands I was sent were by Innisfree and Tony Moly and are carried by online store IHeartKoreanBeauty which is based in Singapore but ships to Malaysia and worldwide (Edit: Website is defunct. Both brands are available in Malaysia at time of writing). I was sent two of their bestsellers – Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Clay Mask and Tony Moly Simply Style Slim Mascara.

I’ll start off with the Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Clay Mask because I think this one’s a pretty nice clay mask. It comes in a small 100ml jar and is as the name implies, contains volcanic clay from Jeju island in Korea. Volcanic clay is supposed to have antibacterial properties and absorb sebum and purify the skin. The thing about clay masks is that they tend to be drying and if you have combination skin tending to dry, like mine, you might just throw your hands up in horror at the thought of using this mask.

But you know what? This is a clay mask that isn’t drying at all!

Holy Schmoly! Is that really snail mucus in the Tony Moly Intense Repair Snail Cream?

September 29, 2011 Paris B 51 Comments

I came back from Seoul with a jar of the very popular snail cream – face cream made with snail mucus. Eww!! I can almost see all of you cringe 😀

You know what? When I purchased it, I did not feel anything. I mean, I knew snails were involved and I read the brochure but I wasn’t super grossed out or anything. Heck, I’m Chinese. I probably have put stranger things in my mouth 😛 What I was really curious about, was whether it would help skin regenerate and erase lines and pigmentation and brighten the skin as promised.

The brand I purchased was the Tony Moly Intensive Snail Cream. Its not because it was the best nor was it because people love it. It was because I saw boxes of it flying off the shelves, and out of the bulk plastic bags, even before the sales assistants could stock the shelves! So I went over to look and ended up buying a tub that came with an eye cream.

People were buying this by the boxes! When I picked up just one, the cashier looked at me and asked (in Korean) if I was sure I only wanted one box. I understood, because she gestured at the rest of the boxes piled up on the counter. So, I didn’t buy the snail cream from Tony Moly because it was popular or very good or anything. I was just following my herd instinct. You might say it was an impulse purchase 😛

Let’s take a look at this Intense Live Snail Cream then, shall we? 🙂

Tony Moly Mother Nature Body Wash in Oriental Herbs : Not your everyday shower gel infusion

August 4, 2011 Paris B 12 Comments

Rarely do I want to exit my shower smelling like I just fell into a vat of Chinese dried herbs. In fact, those familiar will understand when I say, smelling like I just showered in bak kut teh – a Malaysian herbal pork rib soup.

But that was the conclusion I reached when I used this body wash from Tony Moly – a Korean cosmetics brand. I picked this one up in Seoul simply because I’d never seen a shower gel infused with herbs before this. I kid you not. They actually have dried herbs in the bottle! Check out the pictures below if you don’t believe me 🙂

You Asked: My Skincare Routine Day and Night

July 30, 2011 Paris B 39 Comments

Morning! Rise and shine! Or if you’re reading this at any other time, rise and shine anyway 🙂

I’ve had a request from reader Shay most recently in the comments, and from an uncountable number of emails, to share my skincare routine. I’ve been meaning to do a post about it for the longest time, so no better time than the present. Really!

Note: (1) Products I use will change from time to time. What does not change however, is the routine and sequence of products used. (2) I am on a hydrating and anti-aging skincare regime (3) This isn’t gospel and is liable to change often 🙂
