Your Say: Do you need expensive makeup brushes?

I haven’t been buying a lot of makeup lately (I’ve developed a bit of an unhealthy obsession with other things like skincare and gasp! scented candles) but there’s one thing I’ve been indulging in recently and that’s makeup brushes. Not just any makeup brush, I recently took the plunge and went for a couple of high end, pricey makeup brushes notably from Tom Ford, Hakuhodo and Wayne Goss.

So, I was talking about it online to my friend who’s my sounding board and we got round to discussing these really expensive makeup brushes. I have started seeing a lot of these luxury makeup brushes appear in people’s blogs and Instagram feeds and how everyone goes “OMG you NEED this! It’s perfect for applying blush/eyeshadow/powder” blah blah and I can’t help feeling that it’s not all true, because statements like this sway people and make them irrational.

Despite the fact I do own some luxury brushes and I enjoy using them, I don’t think anyone actually really “needs” these brushes at all. In fact, while I agree that you need good makeup brushes, I don’t agree that you have to sell a kidney to buy that Hakuhodo or Tom Ford brush, no matter how amazing it is, because you could quite easily get similar results from a more affordable brand, but a GOOD brush.

I think it’ll be interesting to hear your thoughts on this, or if you have compared a luxury brush to a regular one and think that my statement isn’t quite accurate 🙂

Luxury Lipstick! Tom Ford Moroccan Rouge Lipstick

Its taken me so long to desecrate the Tom Ford lipstick I was gifted with by a lovely lipstick loving friend. I mean this is a luxury lipstick. I have to give it its due 🙂

First, take a moment to stare at the TF initials etched into the top of the lipstick. We’ve seen brands etch their names on the side – Chanel and Revlon come to mind. Dior Rouge too! But Tom Ford, being unconventional, etches his initials right on top of the lipstick.

Next, savour the heft and the smooth lines of the white lacquered case. We always see lipsticks in gold or black cases right? Tom Ford isn’t conventional so his is a smooth white trimmed in gold. And its got good heft to it. A good luxury lipstick can be measured by its heft.

Also, there’s his name again – Tom Ford – etched right into the top of the lipstick cover.

I know what you’re thinking at this point. “Enough with the case already! Show us how the colour looks!” And I will… but you have to continue on below 😛

Hello! Tom Ford Moroccan Rouge Lipstick!

“Squeeeaaalll!!!!”

That was my reaction upon receiving this most luxurious gift last weekend. Or maybe not, but I was squealing inside with glee.

A gift from a very lovely friend of one of Tom Ford’s Private Blend lipsticks launched earlier this year. I had the run of the house and I picked Moroccan Rouge, a reddened plum. Plum? Moi?

I think the gifter was just as surprised as I was to see the colour in the tube. We both stared it for a good 5 seconds, before checking to see if the colour is what it says it is LOL… I have just swatched a tiny side of it on the back of my hand, quite loathe to disturb the TF etched right into the center of the lipstick.

The colour is gorgeous. A fuchsia toned plummy red that is on the cooler side. A Fall colour, that’s for sure. I’ll steel myself and bring some proper swatches soon 🙂

I haven’t been this excited about a lipstick in a very very long while! 😀
