Give also the gift of play to refugee children this gift-giving season with The Body Shop Play for Peace gift sets

December 18, 2017 Paris B 6 Comments

One of the companies which releases the biggest, most varied selection of Christmas gift sets is The Body Shop. They have quite literally something for every budget, and what’s nice is that they attach a cause to the gifting process. Last year, it was about saving the animals.

This year, in view of what’s been happening around the world, their focus is on our next generation – the children.

This year, with every seasonal gift you buy from The Body Shop, TBS will donate to the International Alert’s Peace Play Project. The Peace Play Project helps Syrian refugee children in Lebanon heal through therapeutic play, and perhaps, just for a few minutes, forget the horrors of war and strife that they’ve lived through, through daily play.

Proceeds from the sale of each gift will go towards funding the Peace Play Project for a year, and you can read more about this initiative here. This is an international initiative, and since you’d be buying a gift anyway, it is a good time to give towards a noble cause as well. The Peace Play Project initiative aside, what I’ve found more interesting about The Body Shop’s gift sets this year, is their packaging.

Let’s get your oil on! The Facial Oils I love, like and am on the fence about

September 8, 2017 Paris B 24 Comments

Facial oils are really hot right now. So many brands are coming out with their version of facial oils, and you know it’s a hit product when even mainstream brands get in on the act. I’d actually used rosehip oil many years ago, as a teen, but wasn’t quite educated on the best way to use it, so I really hated it because it was so damned sticky! I returned to facial oils a few years back, when I found that my skin was turning drier, and with a little trial and error, have worked out the best way to use them. I now love facial oils, and I’m always looking out for the next one to try!

I thought I’d give you a run down on the oils I’ve used (some older ones won’t be included as I no longer have or use them, so I can’t talk about them) to give you an idea of what sort of oils I like, and how I use them. It is non-exhaustive, as I have more to showcase in time to come!

Just briefly, despite what we might think, oils are actually good for our skin, not only dry skin, but even oily or combination skin types can benefit. You just have to find the right oil for your skin and that you feel most comfortable using. Naturally, drier skin types will benefit more from using facial oils, as it helps to rebalance your lipids and nourish your skin, so it stays more supple and moisturised.

Does it take the place of a moisturiser or a serum? Personally speaking, I’ll say no. I use a moisturiser or cream over my oils to seal them in. Opinions vary on this, where some people say that the oils go on last, but I’m sticking to my way, because it works for me both physically, and logically. If you have oily skin however, you may just want to end off with the oil and skip moisturiser, as anything else on top may feel heavy.

So, here are some oils that I use and how I use them, to give you an idea of where to start. Settle in 🙂 Please feel free to ask or share in the comments. I’m happy to talk about facial oils to anyone! 😀

The Body Shop Oils of Life Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil makes you want to dive right in!

August 21, 2017 Paris B 6 Comments

One of the more fascinating releases from The Body Shop that I watched with some interest a few years ago, was this product – The Body Shop Oils of Life Intensely Revitalising Facial Oil. The Oils of Life is a category unto its own with more than just a facial oil, which may explain the rather long product name.

There are one or two other products in the Oils of Life range, but my interest laid primarily in the facial oil. I am after all, a big fan of facial oil, and this one was one of the more easily accessible, and I dare say, one of the more affordable ones. I had to see how it fared.

Well, to pre-empt you, let me just say that if you have oily or even combination skin, this is not the facial oil for you. But if you have dry skin, or live where the weather will turn very cold and dry, then you (and your wallet) will enjoy this one! 🙂

SKINCARE TIP: Use Facial Oil as a mask for a one step lazy day skincare routine

April 26, 2017 Paris B 16 Comments

I’ve got a quick skincare tip for you today, which is one that forms the central part of my lazy day skincare routine. Oh yes, I get those, and as diligent as I am with my skincare, there are days when I just want to vege out. You know those days? When even spritzing on a facial mist seems like too much effort.

Yet, you don’t feel right not putting on your evening face – the layers of lotions and potions. Some days I power through the malaise. Other days, I cheat 😉

Well, I’ll share with you what I do in this instance. You only need 2 ingredients (faster than baking a cake!).
