Leaving on a jet plane… To the Land of Smiles

December 4, 2011 Paris B 60 Comments

One of the sights I love the most – an airplane wing glinting in the last vestiges of the warm evening sunlight, fluffy clouds below me and the most beautiful sunset seen above the ground.

On a jet plane

Tell me this isn’t one of the most beautiful sights ever? 🙂

I always hum a little ditty when I get on board “I’m leaving on a jet plane. Don’t know when I’ll be back again…” except I do. I hold return tickets right? 😛 But yes, I love travelling and I was just recently on board one such plane 🙂 I spent the recent long weekend in Bangkok! 😀

Part of my annual pilgrimage, Bangkok is a city I visit often and fortunately is a relatively affordable city to visit. I took some photos using just my mobile phone camera this time so do hop along if you’d like a break from the beauty posts we normally get on the blog 🙂Continue Reading

Green Cotton Organic Natural Cotton Shop @ Amarin Plaza Bangkok

January 3, 2010 Paris B 11 Comments

Here’s a store I visit quite often when I’m in Bangkok – Green Cotton. I stumbled on it quite by mistake one day while I was walking through Amarin Plaza (Chidlom BTS stop next to Hyatt Erawan) savouring the cool air-conditioning. Bangkok can be abominably HOT!

What the store sells is items made out of natural unbleached cotton. Nothing bright or spandex laden in here. Everything is in a shade of beige or cream which can strike many as boring.

But what I’m here for really, is to get their cotton underwear! 😀 I bought a pair on a previous trip to try it out and on my last trip, I was back for more. Cotton, being a natural fibre can breathe better and makes wearing underwear so much more comfortable. Granted, it only comes in boring cream and a simple bikini cut, but it’ll do for everyday use. Its also surprisingly quite well made as mine have lasted multiple washes without showing wear. Prices start from THB40 each and up depending on size.

One night in Bangkok – Shopping in Bangkok

September 16, 2009 Paris B 33 Comments

bangkok

I’ve had some queries where to shop while in Bangkok, Thailand. First off, let me say I’ve done the whole tourist thing quite a few times and scored deals or been burnt so these days, I only shop for things I know I want not what I think I need, cheap or no. I have also been doing very short trips – mostly overnighters so time is essential for me. So, this may not be the guide to shopping in Bangkok that you’re looking for – merely a taster of what Bangkok has to offer 🙂

Shopping for Clothes

Everyone will tell you to go to Pratunam. The whole area starting from Indra Shopping Complex and beyond is FULL of little clothes stores and stalls where you can purchase clothes in bulk or singly. Bulk means 3 and up and prices drop accordingly. I’ve picked up some decent stuff there. Dresses for RM12, loose pants for RM5 etc. But you must be careful to check and double check the quality to be sure you’re happy with it and the size. Most times, you aren’t allowed to try them on so always err on the side of caution.

To hit the morning clothes market, go early – 6am is best because they start closing up by about 9am. The other stalls or shops start opening about 9am. Be prepared to be hot and sweaty so bring a lot of drinking water with you. If you plan to do a lot of wholesale clothes shopping, you might want to look for a hotel in the area so you don’t waste time.

Whirlwind shopping in Bangkok!

October 29, 2008 Paris B 16 Comments

About 2 weekends ago, I jetted off to Bangkok for 36 hours. It was impetous and it was a “pilgrimage” thing so it was something that needed to be done. Once the pilgrimage was out of the way, what else is there to do in Bangkok but eat and shop myself silly?! It did not help that most of the stores were on sale and the sales were ending just that week so there were lots of extra discounts! What is a girl to do but go a little nuts? 🙂

I did not quite though. I managed to show great restraint and only ended up with a couple of things.

Enough shower gels to keep me clean until my next trip to Bangkok!

Boots shower gel

Yes to Carrots was 50% off everything at Central World so I snagged the shower gel that would normally cost THB446 for THB223 (about RM23) for 500ml. I love the Boots Natural Collection line and although Wild Strawberry shower cream smelt rather sweet, I picked it up anyway. The Tea Tree Oil + With Hazel Foaming Face Wash was picked up from the bargain bin.Continue Reading

The pup & I celebrating birthdays within weeks of The pup & I celebrating birthdays within weeks of each other 😁 Kiddo turns 4 and celebrated with specially made doggy burgers & fries.

I got him in early Jan 2020 so he’s only been with me less than 4 years but it’s been incredible to see how he’s grown (or not), and how he’s slowly mellowed with age (or not!). He’s still that crazy rambunctious puppy who terrorises other dogs, begging them to play and barking at them when they don’t. He’s a greedy fella who makes me think I’m the greatest chef in the world (in the dog world maybe!) and he still gets crazy eyes when excited.

But I’ve also found more white hair around his eyes and he sleeps in more and later now. He doesn’t even get up early enough to jump onto the bed as he used to 😔

4 years is practically adulthood in doggy years and I’m thankful that we have the opportunity to spend lots of time together even if I bemoan having to bring him everywhere I go.

Happy 4 years boy ❤️

We just started retailing our dog treats @quandogtreats at our first offline outpost! We’re available exclusively at Lex’s Patio Pantry @lexpatiopantry, a brand new cosy spot in the heart of Bangsar.

Housed at the base of Kapas Condominium, (enter from Jalan Penaga), you’ll find the brand new Lex’s Patio Pantry, a curated grocer with pantry staples and a little cafe set up offering breakfast and lunch. It’s a lovely spot that is quiet and green, filled with all sorts of wonderful goodies, and is best of all, pet friendly! Scroll to the end to see what my efforts are like trying to get a photo with the kid 😒

This explains my lack of updates generally. Been very busy preparing for this, and amazingly enough, moving operations again! It’s a long sucky story but it might have just turned out for the best for us so as they say about windows opening and closing, sometimes you just have to go with the flow and look for the open window when doors close.

P/s yes I also need a haircut - badly 😅
