Travel Skincare Tip: Keeping up appearances on holiday or How to ace your base in low humidity

April 15, 2019 Paris B 14 Comments

I know many of you travel, and cooler climes are always a favourite destination, to escape from our infernal tropical heat and humidity. But how often do you travel somewhere cool, and then find that your skincare isn’t holding up, or that your skin starts to flake and dry out and break out? Worst of all, this happens even after you return home!

Not only is it uncomfortable, your makeup doesn’t look good whether in person or in holiday snaps.

Well, I most recently went on such a holiday.

It was cold and windy, and the humidity was laughably in single digits. I knew my skin would suffer. So I made the necessary preparations, and I can happily report that after a week, the skin on my body was dry and itchy as heck! But the skin on my face was not only comfortable and near perfect, my makeup went on well and looked so natural and amazing too! Yes, I’m preening LOL! 😀

So here’s some tips you should keep in mind when you travel from the hot and humid tropics to a cool, low humidity destination, and the products that helped me.

The Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist is quite possibly the most luxurious face mist I’ve ever tried

March 29, 2019 Paris B 10 Comments

A few years ago, if you had asked me about face mists, I’d have scoffed at them. Today however, I’m a huge proponent of face mists! Coincidentally (or not), the market seems quite saturated with them, so I have my pick of the litter. I don’t do pure water mists anymore. My facial mists need a little more oomph!

Knowing how much I enjoy using face mists, a friend of mine had been waxing lyrical about the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist for ages.

I had to try this! she proclaimed. It is one of the best face mists she’s ever used, keeping her skin well hydrated and comfortable in winter with its low humidity, and plumped up in hot hot summers.

Unfortunately for us here in Malaysia, it is next to impossible to get hold of Tatcha in stores. While it is sold in Sephora Singapore, it isn’t available here just yet. So, our next best option is to buy from the Tatcha online store, where shipping is astronomical.

I bided my time, until quite recently, a friend happened to be in Singapore, happened to end up with a spare bottle of the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist, and so happened to remember that I wanted to try it! The stars were aligned! 😀

My present Skincare Routine : The products don’t matter the routine does

January 16, 2019 Paris B 16 Comments

One of my most requested posts is my current skincare routine. I think the last time I posted one, it was back in 2017! I had good intentions then, to share my routine each month, but it didn’t pan out as I planned.

I too enjoy seeing what other people are using in their skincare routine, so I can understand the interest (I do short videos on Instagram Stories showing my almost daily day-night routine in real-time, if anyone’s interested). But there’s also something a little unhealthy I’ve noticed, that I’d like to address.

skincare routine 2019

Let me share first, my skincare routine thus far for 2019. Rather, this is what I’ve been using through 2018 and into 2019. What you may notice is that my routine and steps do not change. It is only the products that do.

And that is something I want you to hold in mind, as we run through my current skincare routine 🙂

When your skin is showing its sensitive side, the Tatcha Indigo Soothing Triple Recovery Cream will calm it right down

June 20, 2016 Paris B 10 Comments

When I first received the Tatcha Indigo Soothing Triple Recovery Cream, I was elated, and also a little apprehensive. I feel that way every time that I’m presented a product that’s meant to soothe irritated skin, or is touted as being made for sensitive skin. I used to pride myself on having skin like an elephant’s hide – tough, able to tolerate my most extreme ministrations. So, it makes it hard for me to evaluate if a product actually soothes the skin – I wouldn’t know!

One day, all that changed.

It’s been twice thus far, in the space of a few months, that I’ve found myself scratching my head, wondering where the heck I went wrong with my skincare routine. The first time, I figured out that it was a product that was causing my skin to go a little haywire, breaking out randomly, having widespread areas of rough patches. I stopped using the product, and worked on repairing and soothing my then, irritated skin.

That was when I broke out the Tatcha Indigo Soothing Triple Recovery Cream. I needed something that wouldn’t aggravate nor irritate my skin further, and I wanted to see how well (or not) this popular cream worked.

Tatcha is a brand with a very unique approach to skincare, and an interesting story behind it centering on the mystique surrounding Japanese beauty. It takes quite a lot for a brand-new brand to capture the imagination as well as Tatcha has. I think it’s to do with their beautiful aesthetic, interesting story, and for most, effective (albeit pricey) products. I told you about the cleansing oil before this (loved it and finished it, much to my consternation) but today, it’s this cream that so many people love.

The pup & I celebrating birthdays within weeks of The pup & I celebrating birthdays within weeks of each other 😁 Kiddo turns 4 and celebrated with specially made doggy burgers & fries.

I got him in early Jan 2020 so he’s only been with me less than 4 years but it’s been incredible to see how he’s grown (or not), and how he’s slowly mellowed with age (or not!). He’s still that crazy rambunctious puppy who terrorises other dogs, begging them to play and barking at them when they don’t. He’s a greedy fella who makes me think I’m the greatest chef in the world (in the dog world maybe!) and he still gets crazy eyes when excited.

But I’ve also found more white hair around his eyes and he sleeps in more and later now. He doesn’t even get up early enough to jump onto the bed as he used to 😔

4 years is practically adulthood in doggy years and I’m thankful that we have the opportunity to spend lots of time together even if I bemoan having to bring him everywhere I go.

Happy 4 years boy ❤️

This explains my lack of updates generally. Been very busy preparing for this, and amazingly enough, moving operations again! It’s a long sucky story but it might have just turned out for the best for us so as they say about windows opening and closing, sometimes you just have to go with the flow and look for the open window when doors close.
