Sleek Makeup Lagoon and Showstoppers i-Divine palettes add colour to your day

April 17, 2013 Paris B 33 Comments

sleek lagoon showstoppers palettes

Sleek Makeup (aka Sleek to many) came up with 2 more new limited edition i-Divine eyeshadow palettes this year. They seem to be doing it quite often don’t they? The first of these was available about a month ago in the limited edition Spring 2013 Aqua collection. The eyeshadow palette, which  you can see on your right of the image above, is the Lagoon i-Divine palette.

The other palette that has just become available online only for a limited time this month, is the Showstoppers palette. You can see the palette on your left in the photo above, and what it is, is a collection of shadows from the various i-Divine eyeshadow palettes launched by Sleek Makeup. Ostensibly, its the best of the best – the best shadows from each of Sleek’s best palettes to date. I think that’s a nice little concept but… yes, there is a but.

I’ll run them down quickly for you with swatches so you have an idea of what to expect. That said, if you are familiar with Sleek Makeup i-Divine palettes, you should already know what to expect, right? 😉

Playing with colour? Flick It with Royal Blue eyeliner and True Colour Lipstick from Sleek Makeup

Colour! How brave are you wearing bright colours for makeup? Just look at that lipstick eh? Kinda scary I’d admit even to myself. It looks neon LOL!

If you haven’t noticed, navy blue or blue eyeliner has been touted as a must have for the Spring/Summer 2013 makeup trends. I’m not one to actually pay attention to trends (I don’t have the time nor interest to keep up) but I have been playing around with the new Sleek Makeup Flick It eyeliner pen in Royal Blue and its been interesting. I even paired it with their True Colour Lipstick in Tangerine Scream which you see in the picture. Scream! What an apt name 😛

Here’s how they look – and you can tell me if you’d ever wear a lipstick that bright out of the house 😉

Sleek Makeup and some Sparkle 2 to help you look oh, so i-Divine!

January 23, 2013 Paris B 36 Comments

Sleek Makeup. No more a stranger to most of us, with their i-Divine eyeshadow palettes taking top billing in the budget eyeshadow palette category. They do seriously take the cake for pigmented shadows and at US$9.99 / £7.99 (approx RM30-40 depending on exchange rate) for 12 shadows, one can hardly complain.

Occasionally, Sleek Makeup comes up with limited edition palettes sold alongside their permanent line and this was the case towards the end of 2012.

We were presented with the limited edition Sparkle 2 i-Divine eyeshadow palette. A palette of 12 sparkly eyeshadows for the party season. I especially liked the box for this one. It looked suitably festive and I like how Sleek prints the names of the palette on the cover of the case now. It makes it easier to spot the one you want amongst the rest of your i-Divine palettes 🙂 Its still available on the website actually, so you can still get it while stocks last and as I will show you below, it isn’t all as sparkly as the name implies.

In this handy little compact then, is a selection of shimmer shadows and glitter eyeshadows. Personally, I felt this palette was a bit hit and miss. I’ll show you why.

Now, with the Sleek Blemish Balm (BB) Cream most skintones can Be Beautiful

January 14, 2013 Paris B 42 Comments

Back when BB Creams first took the world by storm, I tried a few and found that from a personal perspective, I never really liked the “real” BB Creams that came out of Asia and especially Korea. I found them heavy, grey (!!) and oily. When the western brands started jumping on the bandwagon and came out with BB Creams, I realised that their versions of BB Creams felt better on my skin. Nevermind that it was not “real” or that it was akin to a tinted moisturiser. I am more likely to use something that feels comfortable as opposed to something that is not.

There are quite a few Western brands out there doing BB Creams but they do tend to be a little pricey. Last year, UK brand Sleek Makeup launched their version of a BB Cream called the Be Beautiful Blemish Balm. And they did something right by my books. They launched a BB Cream in 4 different shades (Fair, Light, Medium, Dark), to hopefully suit all or most skintones, yes, even dark skintones! So, dark skinned ladies, you too can now wear BB Cream 😀

I had the opportunity to try this Sleek Makeup BB cream in Light. Whilst I could make it work, I definitely think that Fair is my shade. Have to trust my instincts next time and go for the lightest end of the spectrum and then work my way up 😛

Like most, if not all BB Creams, the Be Beautiful Blemish Balm serves to perform a myriad of functions – conceal, repair, protect, with full coverage and SPF15. SPF15 is a bit light for our blazing tropical sun, but it is better than nothing I suppose. Unlike many conventional Western BB creams, the texture feels more close to that of one from Asia – it is thick and it spreads well so you only need a thin layer for best effect. Not quite surprising, when I noticed that this was made in Taiwan.

Whilst the shade did not make me feel comfortable enough to wear it often, there is one thing I absolutely love about this BB Cream. It is seriously, hand on heart, not oily at all. I can wear it all day without it slipping one bit and I don’t oil up as I will with regular Asian BB Creams. I have drier skin but this feels comfortable. Its pretty amazing in that regard! 🙂
