A slice of Korean SkinFood to feed your skin: Do you have a fave?

November 24, 2011 Paris B 56 Comments

SkinFood or Skin Food? Either way its spelt, its the cute cosmetics and skincare brand to come out of Korea.

I don’t go down to 1 Utama very often but I can tell you that the SkinFood store at 1U and I go back a long way. I still remember when it was first opened (some time in 2005 or so) and I walked past during their opening, and was handed a pack of rice bran mask absolutely free! Thrilled me to no end and I shamelessly went back for another pack 😀

skin food store 1U

Recently, I had the pleasure to be invited to take a look at the newly renovated and upgraded SkinFood store at 1 Utama, which is how all future stores will look and its the look that comes down all the way from Korea. The store has a bright airy feel with products prominently displayed and although much smaller than the SkinFood store I went to in Myeongdong, Seoul, did have a similar vibe.

SkinFood, the affordable Korean skincare brand has been around in the country for a while now, but I must confess that I never paid much attention to it. For some reason, it always felt a bit young for me. So are you a fan of the brand or is there anything in the brand you particularly like?

A Korean Haul to soothe the shopping Seoul

May 11, 2011 Paris B 65 Comments

Haha… I just know that there are some of you waiting for this post 🙂 Truth be told, I did not buy very much, relatively speaking 🙂 I did stumble on a sale going on at Lotte Department store where I picked up some very lovely winter jackets (down filled!) at 50,000 Won (about RM140 each!) so I’m dying to go on a winter holiday next LOL Otherwise, I wasn’t quite into buying clothes, shoes or accessories.

masks from korea

What I did return with a lot of, was face sheet masks. Everyone who has ever raved about how incredibly cheap face masks are in Korea were not wrong. I picked up different masks from the different Korean brands – Skin Food, TheFaceShop, ElishaCoy, Baviphat… just to name a few. The masks are usually sold in packs of 10 or 20 and I got them for between 10,000-20,000 won (RM14-28) a pack. This was a shared pack, and I took out quite a few for gifts and suchlike. Should have picked up more 😛

Cheap and Good? Skin Food Vitamin Eyeshadow

May 28, 2008 Paris B 7 Comments

This is Part 2 of the Cheap and Good? eyeshadow series. If you missed my explanation of what this series is about, do read Part 1 on my review of Elianto Shimmer eyeshadow.

For my second experiment, I popped over to Skin Food to check out their stuff. Skin Food is a Korean cosmetics company and like many Korean mainstream cosmetics, happen to fall in the low-medium priced market. So again, the customers tend to be the young and those on a budget. Here’s the link to the Korean site and to the Singapore site for those who can’t read Korean.

I’ll be honest. These cutesy Korean brands don’t appeal to me. I chose Skin Food because of the cute factor and because I always see many people at their counters. I reckoned there must be something worth checking out there other than the fact that their prices are low. Skin Food did have a range of eyeshadows that fell in the below RM25 range and I was curious about how they fared. So, I picked up the Skin Food Vitamin Eyeshadow for about RM23 (I think).

You have to hand it to the Koreans though. They know how to package their product so it appeals! Skin Food’s Vitamin Eyeshadow comes in a compact with a large eyeshadow pan in it. The brand name and the signature little cherub is embossed on the surface of the shadow. How cute is that?Continue Reading
