My Skincare Routine August 2017 : Healing Sensitive Skin and Products I used

August 14, 2017 Paris B 31 Comments

I’ve been meaning to update my day and night skincare routine for a while (my last was in 2014!) Goodness, I hadn’t realised that it was so long ago! I’d been trying to write a post about my skincare routine for a while, but what with one thing and another, never got around to writing it.

I also get a lot of requests to share the products I’m using in my routine. The thing is, a lot of my basic routine remains pretty constant. The products change from time to time, depending on my skin needs, how I feel etc.

So, instead of just sharing my skincare routine once a year, which will change, I’ve decided to keep to an evolving skincare routine post. I’ll endeavour to share my routine every 2-3 months. It’ll give you an idea of what I’m using, how they work for me, how I use a product or fit it into my routine, and it’ll give me a point of reference as well. Also, it’ll allow me to highlight certain products that I may not dedicate a full post to. Win, all around methinks!

For starters, here’s my skincare routine that I’ve been doing for the past month or so. I had a much more complicated routine before this. But about a month ago, I noticed that the skin on both my cheeks were taking on a very bumpy feel. It wasn’t visible, but the texture of skin had changed, and any glow I had was gone. Naturally so, for the skin was uneven, even if unnoticable to someone else. I was very upset.

So, one day, I sat down, and stripped back all my skincare. Then, I built back a routine that was very simple and basic. Whether it was the products I used, or the routine I was on, my skin is now back to normal. Hurrah! 😀

When my skin goes bonkers, it’s time to break out the REN Evercalm Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask

June 19, 2017 Paris B 4 Comments

You know, I used to think that “sensitive skin” was a condition, much like “eczema”. It wasn’t until I started paying closer attention to my skin, that I realised that it wasn’t so much a skin condition, as it was a condition your skin is in. There is difference between the two.

The former is a condition your skin is predisposed to, while the latter could affect your skin at any time. When I started paying closer attention to my skin, I noticed that my skin would occasionally go, as I like to say, a little bonkers. It could be due to anything – hormones, environment, stress and occasionally, a skincare product or routine that did not agree with me.

Times like this, I have a little back-up routine to calm my skin down, and soothe any irritation. And one product that features is the REN Evercalm Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask (REN Evercalm Rescue Mask for short).

This is a product by REN Skincare, one of the brands I am particularly partial to, and was just launched not too long ago. I was fortunate (or maybe not) that not long after I attended the product launch, my skin threw a hissy fit. As it does. Sigh… But what better time then, to put this REN Evercalm Rescue Mask to the test! 😀 Silver linings and all that 😛

In love with the Melvita Apiscoma UHT Soothing Cream for helping my sensitized irritated skin get back on track

May 22, 2017 Paris B 10 Comments

I don’t generally have sensitive or easily irritated skin, but sometimes, I do silly things to my skin that results in my skin throwing a fit. This usually results in bumpy, dry and flaky skin for me. What I’ve learned to do then, is to take it easy.

I went through one such episode recently, and unearthed from my stash the Melvita Apiscoma UHT Soothing Cream, a product I fell in love with and knew I just had to tell you about it!

Melvita is a brand you may be familiar with. It’s a French brand of certified organic skincare, with its roots in honey and the bee. My favourite product from them has been the Floral Water Mist, which is lovely, soothing and hydrating, and I also liked their Nectar Supreme La Creme moisturiser.

While the Nectar Supreme La Creme is a good cream, I do think it serve a better purpose for those with more matured skin (and slightly deeper pockets). This Apiscoma UHT Soothing Cream however, is suitable for most, and especially, those with sensitive skin or those undergoing a bout of sensitivity – it happens! 🙂

When your skin is showing its sensitive side, the Tatcha Indigo Soothing Triple Recovery Cream will calm it right down

June 20, 2016 Paris B 10 Comments

When I first received the Tatcha Indigo Soothing Triple Recovery Cream, I was elated, and also a little apprehensive. I feel that way every time that I’m presented a product that’s meant to soothe irritated skin, or is touted as being made for sensitive skin. I used to pride myself on having skin like an elephant’s hide – tough, able to tolerate my most extreme ministrations. So, it makes it hard for me to evaluate if a product actually soothes the skin – I wouldn’t know!

One day, all that changed.

It’s been twice thus far, in the space of a few months, that I’ve found myself scratching my head, wondering where the heck I went wrong with my skincare routine. The first time, I figured out that it was a product that was causing my skin to go a little haywire, breaking out randomly, having widespread areas of rough patches. I stopped using the product, and worked on repairing and soothing my then, irritated skin.

That was when I broke out the Tatcha Indigo Soothing Triple Recovery Cream. I needed something that wouldn’t aggravate nor irritate my skin further, and I wanted to see how well (or not) this popular cream worked.

Tatcha is a brand with a very unique approach to skincare, and an interesting story behind it centering on the mystique surrounding Japanese beauty. It takes quite a lot for a brand-new brand to capture the imagination as well as Tatcha has. I think it’s to do with their beautiful aesthetic, interesting story, and for most, effective (albeit pricey) products. I told you about the cleansing oil before this (loved it and finished it, much to my consternation) but today, it’s this cream that so many people love.
