Save and Splurge: The Bright Blue Eyeshadow Palette Edition

February 10, 2012 Paris B 27 Comments

I love blue eyeshadow even if its the one colour most people fear. The trick is in wearing it so you don’t look like someone punched you in the eye, or that you just stepped out from the 80’s when blue eyeshadow ruled. I like wearing just a touch of blue on the lid or close to the lash line and then use a grey or black to blend it out.

I recently came across 2 blue eyeshadow palettes I just had to share in a Save and Splurge edition 😀

Do you see how I might have thought so?  😀

Both palettes from 2 different ends of the price spectrum contain interesting blue shadows and good crease and highlight shades.  Lets see how they stack up, briefly.

Stroll in Green Park by Buckingham Palace while wearing Rimmel Glam Eyes HD Eyeshadow in Royal Blue

February 1, 2012 Paris B 30 Comments

Hail Britannia! Anglophiles will love the look of the Rimmel Glam’ Eyes HD Eyeshadows, which I’d read about online a few months ago. I never thought I’d see them here because, well, I never hold out much hope for anything so everytime we do get a collection or item in, I’m always pleasantly surprised. Better that way eh? 🙂

Anyway, I spotted these one day while at a random Guardian Pharmacy trawling the aisles and I decided to pick up both Rimmel palettes on a whim just to see what the fuss was about. If you don’t see them in the top display, look lower – these were hidden on the lowest shelf, towards the back as if it was some illicit drug – I never understand the marketing techniques of some brands. But anyhoo….. 😛

The shades I got were Royal Blue on left and Green Park on right. Green Park in particular, has received widespread raves internationally for being a very nice green and gold palette and above all, being inexpensive with great quality. I naturally had to see if it lived up to the hype 😉

Go Red for Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year

February 3, 2010 Paris B 42 Comments

Valentine’s Day and the 1st day of the Chinese Lunar New Year coincides this year which I can imagine leads to a bit of a quandary for some. In terms of makeup, since red is the colour of love and red is auspicious to the Chinese, its your chance to slick on your favourite red lipsticks! Haha… not like I ever need an excuse 😛

Here are 6 red or red toned lipsticks I like and some wearable colours too for those who might be a little intimidated by red lips.

YSL Rouge Volupte #16 Red Temptation

Creamy in texture, opaque in color. Warm bright red that is not for the faint hearted but if you pull it off, its stunning! Chinese New Year is a good time to pull this one out and if you will be leaving lipstick on anyone’s collar, this is a good one to stake your claim with 😉

Lancome Color Fever #151 – Red Avant RM75

This was released in the Declaring Indigo collection. Yes it is B.R.I.G.H.T and its matte. A combination I rarely go with but this works somehow. Its not drying and applies smoothly. Amp up the glam with a touch of shimmery gloss in the middle (I use my magic gloss Guerlain Crystal Pearl gloss)

Day 27 : Rimmel Longlasting Lipstick Drop of Sherry

June 28, 2009 Paris B 6 Comments

Am a day behind but Day 27 of the 30 lipsticks in 30 days project features Rimmel of London found in Watsons.

Rimmel Longlasting Lipstick – Drop of Sherry

Rimmel Drop of Sherry

Rimmel Longlasting Lipstick was my first ever Rimmel lipstick and came all the way from London. This was in the days before Rimmel was available in Malaysia.

The longlasting lipsticks live up to their name. They do last and they don’t dry out the lips. The colour payoff is good and you pretty much get what you see. Unlike the Gloss Maxx lipstick, it isn’t as glossy or shiny.
