Chinese New Year, or also commonly referred to as the Lunar New Year is a festival celebrated by Asian communities the world over. As may be expected, it is one steeped in cultural tradition.

To herald a new spring, most of us perform all sorts of activities such as wearing bright colours, eating dishes that represent prosperity and abundance, and staying up late into the night to catch up with family and friends.

But aside from these cultural norms, families may have their own little traditions as well! Let me share some of mine with you 🙂

5 useful tips to look your best during the festive season now Chinese New Year is almost here

January 18, 2019 Paris B 20 Comments

This post is brought to you in part by Nespresso Malaysia. All views and opinions are my own.

Just when we thought that the year-end festivities are over, done and dusted, the dragons of Asia swing their heavy heads around and let out a little cough of laughter. Over? It’s only just beginning!

With Spring just around the corner, we are all looking forward to celebrating the Lunar New Year aka Chinese New Year (on 5 February 2019 this year); the symbolic start to the year for many of Chinese descent.

tips to stay fresh and look good during festivities chinese new year

As everyone celebrating will be aware, the Lunar New Year is a time for family, feasting, festivities and frazzled nerves LOL! 😀 Here in Malaysia, it is a time when we open our doors to family and friends to visit and late nights are inevitable.

In fact, on the eve of Chinese New Year (which is the most important day of all) when we have the Reunion Dinner to reunite family members from near and far, we are all encouraged to stay up late to ring in the new year. Yes, even the little ones. Especially the little ones, because it is believed that it will bring longevity to their parents – Chinese are very symbolic, but really, I think it’s just because parents can’t be bothered to tuck their excited little ones in bed 😛

So, with all this going on, you can expect to look a little wan and tired during the coming Chinese New Year festivities – 15 days! – but here’s some tips for you on how to survive this, and look your best while doing so!

Do note that these tips are useful to bear in mind for ALL festivities, not only for Chinese New Year! 😀

Eat at Chez PB: 5 reasons I love my Nespresso machine (and why you may too!)

November 19, 2018 Paris B 28 Comments

This post is sponsored by and brought to you in part by Nespresso Malaysia. Opinions are my own based on my own machine I purchased 5 years ago

You know I like to cook, here at Chez PB, but my kitchen hasn’t been as active in recent times. What I do most often in there these days, is head for my Nespresso machine first thing in the morning, and make coffee. I may love talking about beauty, but I’m equally passionate about food and coffee. I would be a zombie with a headache, without my morning coffee!

No day starts without a steaming hot cup of the thick, black, bitter brew. The smell of roasted beans. The bitter yet fragrant aroma filled with promise of a lovely jolt of caffeine to wake your system up. Ah…

I’ve owned a Nespresso machine for over 5 years. You may remember seeing it in these pictures. The model I bought is no longer in production, but it has served me well all these years and continues to serve me well. Surprisingly, I get quite a few queries about it, and about Nespresso coffee in general. I know, you can never tell who’s reading your content online! 😀

So I thought I’d share once and for all, why I love my Nespresso machine, and why I think now’s a good time as any to take the plunge, as it were. A tribute to the 5 years I’ve owned mine, and because I can share that Nespresso is running a Long Black Friday promotion with some good deals (and a promo code!) that starts 2 days before Black Friday! 😀
