Let’s get your oil on! The Facial Oils I love, like and am on the fence about

September 8, 2017 Paris B 24 Comments

Facial oils are really hot right now. So many brands are coming out with their version of facial oils, and you know it’s a hit product when even mainstream brands get in on the act. I’d actually used rosehip oil many years ago, as a teen, but wasn’t quite educated on the best way to use it, so I really hated it because it was so damned sticky! I returned to facial oils a few years back, when I found that my skin was turning drier, and with a little trial and error, have worked out the best way to use them. I now love facial oils, and I’m always looking out for the next one to try!

I thought I’d give you a run down on the oils I’ve used (some older ones won’t be included as I no longer have or use them, so I can’t talk about them) to give you an idea of what sort of oils I like, and how I use them. It is non-exhaustive, as I have more to showcase in time to come!

Just briefly, despite what we might think, oils are actually good for our skin, not only dry skin, but even oily or combination skin types can benefit. You just have to find the right oil for your skin and that you feel most comfortable using. Naturally, drier skin types will benefit more from using facial oils, as it helps to rebalance your lipids and nourish your skin, so it stays more supple and moisturised.

Does it take the place of a moisturiser or a serum? Personally speaking, I’ll say no. I use a moisturiser or cream over my oils to seal them in. Opinions vary on this, where some people say that the oils go on last, but I’m sticking to my way, because it works for me both physically, and logically. If you have oily skin however, you may just want to end off with the oil and skip moisturiser, as anything else on top may feel heavy.

So, here are some oils that I use and how I use them, to give you an idea of where to start. Settle in 🙂 Please feel free to ask or share in the comments. I’m happy to talk about facial oils to anyone! 😀

Defy age naturally and organically with Neal’s Yard Remedies Frankincense Intense Cream

September 4, 2014 Paris B 15 Comments

A while ago, I told you about the Neal’s Yard Remedies Rejuvenating Frankincense Facial oil and how much I really liked it, and still do. I love the scent and how relaxing it is and how lovely it makes my skin feel. So, when I put the Frankincense Intense Cream to the test, I expected to fall in love with it too.

This is an anti-aging cream made of natural and organic ingredients, as with everything from Neal’s Yard Remedies and was launched late last year. Housed in a lovely deep blue glass jar, the otherwise plainly labelled Frankincense Intense cream uses as its key ingredients, Frankincense which has anti-inflammatory properties and helps even out fine lines and wrinkles, and Gardenia stem cells to help boost the production of collagen in the skin.

As the name and function implies, this one’s targeted at those who have such concerns, which would be those of a more mature skin type. It isn’t to say that you couldn’t use it in your 20’s, although you might not derive the best results from it. But how did I like it?

Loving the Neal’s Yard Remedies Rejuvenating Frankincense Facial Oil

March 20, 2014 Paris B 31 Comments

A few months … actually, many months ago, I was introduced to English organic brand, Neal’s Yard Remedies. The previous post has a little more about my introduction to the brand so I’m not going to repeat it here. I do however, want to share 1 product I’ve tried from the brand that I really enjoyed using, and I wanted to quickly talk about it because I just realised I’m a little more than halfway through a bottle already!

It’s the Neal’s Yard Remedies Rejuvenating Frankincense Facial Oil and my skin loves this stuff!

Facial oils aren’t something everyone will like, I’ll concede, but I love them when they work which isn’t always. The great thing about facial oils for me, is that they really do help balance out my skin when it’s gone off kilter. With some, I use them as a serum, where I layer a moisturiser over to seal in the oil, sometimes I mix a couple of drops of oil into my moisturiser to give it more slip but with this Frankincense Facial Oil, I could do one more thing – I could use it alone as moisturiser!

New! Neal’s Yard Remedies Frankincense Intense Cream and New Store

November 15, 2013 Paris B 10 Comments

Many years ago when I was in Covent Garden, I remembered seeing a store called Neal’s Yard Remedies. At the time, I was in a bit of a hurry and my store to target was Lush. I then forgot about Neal’s Yard Remedies until I came across it on some English blogs.

Well, this English Certified Organic skincare brand is here in Malaysia, and has been for about a year or so I believe. I came across their counter at Isetan KLCC but there is now a proper flagship store opened at The Gardens, Mid Valley. I stopped by a couple of weeks back to learn a little about the brand and also to check out the new Frankincense Intense cream.
