Gosh, I haven’t lined my eyes for so long, that I seem to have forgotten how! LOL! No, I’m serious!

I tightline my eyes daily, but I haven’t lined the top lid in ages for one very simple reason….. my old liquid liner dried out! LOL Yes, I’m dead serious. When I line the top lid, I prefer using a liquid liner, because it doesn’t mess up as quickly and the one I’d been using was the very affordable and easy to use, Maybelline Hypersharp liner.

When I first laid eyes on the new Maybelline Hypersharp Wing liner, I thought “Oh hey! I can line my lids again!” and this time, this new liner promises you a much easier way to get a winged eyeliner look. Winged liner “On fleek” as the young ‘uns will say LOL!

Looks pretty unassuming, doesn’t it? Like its earlier Hypersharp sibling, the new Hypersharp Wing liner is a liquid liner in a felt tip pen form. But if you look further down, here’s what makes this particular one a doddle to use, if you want to create a winged tip, or just a thick liner.

Ah lipstick-lipbalm hybrids make a comeback this year, where we’ll see a release from a luxury brand soon, but you know what? Never discount the drugstore/pharmacies because you sometimes find gems in there. I’m going to tell you about a gem today 😀 Many gems in fact!

Yes, me hearties, it’s the Maybelline Lip Polish – a liquid lipstick-lipbalm-lipgloss hybrid that promises you luscious shiny pouty puckers with just 1 swipe of the uniquely shaped wand applicator. I picked up one to try during a promotion at Watson’s a couple of months ago and I have to say that I was wow-ed.

Neon Coral lips. Kinda cool, especially here in our warm tropical climate.

How about neon MATTE Coral lips? You know, if you’re going to try a bold lip colour, or a new lipstick texture, it’s always great to have an affordable option. Just in case you hate it you know. At least your wallet won’t cry.

Well I’m not one for matte lipstick myself. From experience, they tend to make me look older (Heaven knows, I don’t need to actually LOOK my age do I?) and has a tendency to dry out my lips. Well, the Maybelline Coloursensationals Bold Matte lipstick promises not to do all that.

The one I have here is Maybelline Bold Matte lipstick in Mat 2 – Sugar Pink. I’ve seen about 5 shades available at the pharmacy when I was last there, but only Mat 2 had a name on the base. The others go by numbers so you have Mat 1, Mat 2 etc. They all come in varying shades of bold reds and oranges. Quite unique for something from the drugstore.

Mat 2 Sugar Pink is a bright bright coral in the tube that is almost neon in it’s brightness. I was a little afraid at first. Yeah, I was! You see, colours like this can go one of two ways on my skin – beautifully brighten up my features, or make me look sallow and sickly. No middle ground here. Which was it for me? Ahh….

I’ve realised that there is always a general “fear” of wearing lipstick. Being afraid that the colour is too heavy, or that it is waxy (not anymore, unless you are using one from the 80’s) or that it is ageing. It doesn’t have to be. With the many different brands and textures available, you can find a lipstick texture to suit you (and your age).

When people ask, I like to tell them to start with a sheer lipstick. It helps ease you into the wonderful world of lipstick, and the colours are usually lighter and easier to wear.

I’d consider myself a lipstick “veteran” by now, but I still pull out a sheer textured lipstick every now and again. When I have strong eyes on, a sheer lip adds colour without weight and depth. When I want a light, fresh look, a sheer lipstick adds colour without making me look made up. If I want, I can layer on the colour and get more depth which is something harder to do with an opaque lipstick.

In short, every girl needs a sheer lipstick, and here are some favourites that I have. I have segregated them out by brand, not colour 🙂 Do you have a favourite sheer lipstick brand too?
