For sleek style and Style Eye-Cons, Marc Jacobs presents The Vamp Eyeshadow palette

June 11, 2014 Paris B 25 Comments

When Marc Jacobs Beauty came marching in, all the pom-pom cheerleaders were raving over the Gel Foundation and the Style Eye-Con eyeshadow palette. Hmm… far be it for me to always be the Debbie Downer, the gel foundation did not make its way to my “most used foundation” list and now that I’ve given the Style Eye-Con No. 7 Plush Eyeshadow palette its chance over several uses, neither does it get a thumbs up from me.

Sorry folks! Let’s cut to the chase. I am not wow-ed.

Sure, we could wax lyrical about the packaging. The long slim palette is certainly different from other palettes we get out there. It is sleek, but sleekly impractical if you want to take it on your travels. Well, unless you have a large makeup bag which I don’t. I like to keep things compact when I travel.

It comes sheathed in a pouch with a button to keep it closed. Again, something different from the velvet pouches we’re used to seeing from other luxury brands. But you know what? Velvet gives the impression of luxury. Polyester doesn’t. But I digress. Some people like it, I don’t because I don’t see the point.

My final gripe with packaging comes hot on the heels of the sponge tip applicator that seems to have been tossed into the pouch almost as if it was an afterthought. It was like someone said “Oh we forgot to provide an applicator. Let’s just buy one of those cheap sponge things and toss it in. No one will notice” Seriously, Marc Jacobs, you would have been better off not including an applicator at all. The included one is a cheap and horrible item that you’d immediately bin and I did. Bah.

Ok that said, the quality of the shadows aren’t too bad and that would be their redeeming point. I don’t have the very popular neutral Lolita palette but mine’s the rather more exciting looking The Vamp 208 palette.

The Marc Jacobs Genius Gel Supercharged Foundation almost sounds like a Superhero product

May 28, 2014 Paris B 45 Comments

When I first told you that Marc Jacobs Beauty was now available here in Malaysia, I had quite a few requests asking my thoughts on the liquid foundation. Apparently, it comes highly rated and I remember the makeup trainer raving about it too during her demonstration. So it was the first MJ Beauty item I put to the test.

Ok not quite true. The blush was the first I put to the test, but that’s a story for another day 😀

The Marc Jacobs Beauty Genius Gel Super Charged Foundation, to give it its full name is a liquid foundation in a gel texture. What sets this foundation apart from others in its ilk is that it’s supposed to be lightweight in texture and comfortable on skin for all skin types, be it oily or dry, and wear well, providing hydration and light enough to layer from light to full coverage.

That’s quite a lot to ask from one product isn’t it? To be perfectly honest, I didn’t fall in love with it. I know lots of people do, but I’m not one of them and it’s not for want of trying either. It’s not to say that it’s bad. I didn’t think it was bad, it just didn’t sit well with me for one reason or the other which I’ll try to explain.

New! Marc Jacobs Beauty leaves its mark at Sephora Malaysia stores – A quick overview

April 25, 2014 Paris B 48 Comments

I first came across the Marc Jacobs Beauty line when the online community was buzzing about it some time last year. The first images that came out, I admit, didn’t grab me. There was a buzz of reviews when the line was new and then it sort of all quietened down, with preference falling back to the established, tried and true brands.

Knowing that most exciting new brands take forever and a day to reach our shores, I wasn’t paying a lot of attention until the local buzz started that Marc Jacobs Beauty was landing on our shores at Sephora stores. Now, how on earth?! We’re actually WITH IT! 😀

Marc Jacobs Style Eye-Con No. 3 RM137

As of last week, Marc Jacobs Beauty is now available at all Sephora stores nationwide. Marc Jacobs, if you didn’t already know is mostly known for his fashion and at one time was the designer over at Louis Vuitton. He was responsible for some of the more interesting and edgy designs to have come out of the luxury design house.

I used to be keen on the Marc Jacobs brand bag (being the bagaholic that I am) but they were all so heavy! He uses a lot of hardware in his designs and that spells weight. The Marc by Marc Jacobs line is more wearable and less weighty. So being quite familiar with his more flamboyant fashion designs, I was a little surprised at how sleek the MJ Beauty line was.

Here are some pictures of some of the products available, and some preliminary thoughts of a couple I’ve quickly tested in store.
