Paris Picks! My Top 8 Favourite Liquid Foundations I reach for most often

June 9, 2014 Paris B 58 Comments

Liquid foundation was something I came into late in my makeup life. I came into makeup late in life as it was, but that’s a story for another day. When I discovered liquid foundations that were actually comfortable on my skin without looking like I was headed to the Beijing Opera, I couldn’t stop. I also discovered that as my skin got drier, liquid foundation actually felt more comfortable and looked better on than powder foundation, which I’d been using before.

After all these years, and after realising that every morning, when I reach for a foundation, I find my hand hovering over just a few in the drawer, it was time to share with you my favourite liquid foundations 🙂

I make no apologies that barring an extra 2 which are not included in the group shot for reasons which I’ll explain below, my favourite liquid foundations come from the department store brands, which means they come from the higher end of the price scale. I use so little product and I get such wonderful finishes from these, I have no real desire to find cheaper options. So, apologies if you’re looking for a pharmacy/drugstore brand in here, I have none in my Top 8 but I’ll tell you of 3 I like, further down 🙂

Your Say: What was your “Makeup Lightbulb Moment” that made you say Hallelujah? Here’s mine!

January 28, 2014 Paris B 54 Comments

When I was down in Melbourne visiting Tine last year, we spent most of the cool afternoons at home, chatting about various topics from blogging to makeup and we got to reminiscing about the good ol’ days. Thing is, I’ve known Tine quite a while from early blogging and beauty days so we had a lot to reminisce about.

And one of the things we talked about was that “Makeup Lightbulb Moment”. You know that moment when you put on a makeup item and suddenly it was HALLELUJAH! Angels sing, you are amazed at how much better your skin and you look and you go “So this is what makeup can do! I look like me but better!” 😀

You know that moment? 😀

Well I had my lightbulb moment a little late in the day. I’d been wearing just powder or powder foundation for a while with a touch of blush. I was a very simple low maintenance gal… well back then anyway 😉 But one day, I came across an item I’d never thought to use and that lightbulb came on. So, THIS is what makeup can do!

What was it? Ah… take a guess… It’s something I obsess about till today 😉 In fact, it was such an interesting discussion that Tine and I have done a little collaborative post to tell you what our makeup lightbulb moments were.

Lipstick Bandits Vamp it up for the Fall-Winter Season

November 19, 2012 Paris B 56 Comments

The assignment for a vamp lip had me quaking in my flipflops. I like deep lipsticks but I don’t wear many of them. I prefer going for something bright, which might be something to do with our tropical weather. Its not as fun (and sometimes, not as flattering) to wear something deep, dark and mysterious when the sun is shining full in your face 🙂

Still, I couldn’t just let my last LB assignment for the year slip by (I’m chickening out of the next) so here it is.

make up for ever rouge artist intense #13 lipstick

I found this in my lipstick drawer while I was rifling through, looking for something that might fit the bill. I was actually going to pick Lou Ling from the Guerlain Christmas collection, but I didn’t manage to get my hands on it in time. So I was quite pleased to find this – a very lovely deep, shiny, plummy-red lipstick in an intense shade.

Does anyone want to attempt to ID this before I tell you what it is? 🙂 Naturally, if this colour isn’t your cuppa, the other Bandits will have something to whet your vamp appetite too!

Lipstick Bandit on the loose! Raise a (NARS) Manhunt!

October 31, 2011 Paris B 69 Comments

Ladies,

I’m not one to advocate joining gangs – makes me want to don a baseball cap back to front and wear massive bling. But I have recently been invited to join one and like many gangs, its hard to say no especially when they are persistent 😉 They call themselves the Lipstick Bandits but the only thing this gang does is terrorize your wallet by making you WANT more and more lipsticks. Especially the red ones. The redder the better. I think I’ve found my niche 🙂

At the pestering urging of Rae, I was unwittingly happily co-opted into this lipstick loving gang. And like all not-so-secret societies, I needed to be initiated. Here is my initiation.

Me in a bandit-esque mask, rocking a red lipstick 🙂

A month ago, I’d have laughed and said “Pish! Me, do something creative with makeup? You gotta be kidding! I don’t have a creative bone in my body!” That’s what I told Rae the first time she asked. But then I celebrated a birthday recently and with age, as they say, you lose your wisdom 😛 Suddenly you think “There’s nothing I can’t do if I just put my mind to it!” And so when Rae sneakily (banditly?) asked again, I said yes. I did this, on the eve of turning a year older but looking back, not very much wiser 🙂
