My relationship status with La Mer Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation : It’s complicated

November 21, 2016 Paris B 14 Comments

I’d received so many queries about the La Mer Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation over on Instagram, that I figured it was time I sit down and actually write about it. I haven’t been able to give very straight one word “I like it” or “I hate it” answers, because the truth is, it’s complicated.

This isn’t the first time La Mer has had a foundation. They had a whole base makeup range a while back (their concealer and loose powder came highly recommended to me then) but in recent years, they discontinued the range, pulled back, retreated, reformulated, and they have now relaunched the Skincolor de La Mer range.

The Skincolor de La Mer range consists of The Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation, The Powder, The Concealer, The Reparative Skin Tint (which you have seen before) and The Foundation Brush. I’d like to focus here on the Soft Fluid foundation, although I’ll give my 2 cents about The Powder as well (you don’t want to miss that! 😉 ).

Dry-skinned gals in the APAC region will enjoy the exclusive Bobbi Brown Skin Nourishing Glow Foundation

November 14, 2016 Paris B 19 Comments

In this global age of e-commerce, I’ve never quite understood the need, nor desire for there to be region-exclusive products. Skincare perhaps, but not makeup. Why? Answers on a postcard please.

I say so, because this Bobbi Brown Skin Nourishing Glow Foundation, that is really, quite a nice product for drier skintypes, that many in the cooler countries will appreciate, started out being Asia-exclusive. I’d been sitting on this for a while (ok, almost a year. My bad!) and thus far, I’ve only seen this go as far as Australia and New Zealand. Perhaps, this is an Asia-Pacific exclusive?

As part of the “skin nourishing”, this foundation is supposed to contain a collagen enhancing ferment, that helps boost the production of collagen in skin. Higher collagen = more plumped skin. I suppose, if you use this exclusively over long periods, there might be something there. But this being makeup, I’m a little more sceptical about whether there are any real long-term benefits to the skin. I’ve had a discussion with someone before, and I’ll share my views in a separate post 😉

As for the “glow” bit, there are supposed to be powders in there that reflect light and restores radiance to the skin. This makes you look perky even if your skin looks peaky 😀 But what I really liked, is the texture, for those who have drier skin and don’t really want a foundation that leaves you looking like an oil slick, nor feels like a mask 😀

Longing for a high coverage foundation on a budget? Try the Bourjois City Radiance Foundation!

August 29, 2016 Paris B 6 Comments

If there’s one pharmacy or drugstore brand I’d always turn to for foundation that I know will work for me, it is Bourjois. Ever since I came across their Healthy Mix foundation (reformulated into something that no longer suits my skintone), I’d been smitten with the brand. Every base I try from there seems to work like magic on me!

Recently, the new Bourjois City Radiance foundation was released, and it’s been a while since I received it.

Unlike the Healthy Mix and Healthy Mix Serum foundations that come in slim glass bottles, the City Radiance foundation comes in a tube. It is very portable and not bulky or heavy at all. I can see that this one will be a popular one for those who travel a lot, because it’s the perfect travel companion, in terms of packaging and product performance.

The question of course, is whether this lives up to my high expectations for Bourjois bases!

If high coverage foundation’s your thing, the Estee Lauder Futurist Aqua Brilliance Makeup Foundation is brilliant

August 15, 2016 Paris B 19 Comments

It’s easy to get caught up in the lure of all that’s new and wonderful when you’re immersed in the world of beauty. As bloggers, it happens all the time because that’s what we’re often fed – the new. So, when a long time reader, pondsandleaves, steered me not-so-gently in the direction of something not so new, I thought it was a good idea to see how good it was.

The product in question was a foundation – the Estee Lauder Futurist Aqua Brilliance Makeup foundation. For some reason, this one had slipped right under my foundation radar (yes, I have a foundation radar – it’s one makeup item I tend to gravitate towards) and I was very intrigued!

What the Estee Lauder Futurist Aqua Brilliance Makeup foundation claims is a luminous and hydrated visage, with medium to full coverage. I will attest to the coverage. I don’t usually wear high coverage foundation, so it took me a while to get used to this one. As it turns out though, I think it’s a brilliant foundation and deserves a little more hype! Come on, give it up for the future! 😛
