Might the Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Foundation make a cameo appearance in my list of favourite foundation?

There was a little scare among Laura Mercier fans here in Malaysia, that the brand was pulling out of the country. Well, take heart, they aren’t! It was just a change in administration, and they are here to stay. And we know that Laura Mercier is known for their base makeup – their Flawless Base, as they call it. So what better way to join the trend of high coverage, long-wearing foundation bases, than with the Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Foundation.

The Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Foundation was launched about a year ago, and you may notice the subtle change in packaging. In fact, Laura Mercier has since been rebranding themselves, and they now sport a brand new logo, with a brand new font. You will be seeing it roll out in future releases, and their bright, spanking-new stores will also sport it. More modern, more with the times.

But I had to know – were they still as strong in their base products as I remember them to be?

I’ve been about very light makeup in recent times, and I’d found myself reaching very often for cream stick blushes. I do like the Chanel one very much, but I wanted to tell you about another, more underrated one that I have been using a lot of lately. It’s the Laura Mercier Bonne Mine Stick Face Color.

I don’t see many people talking about this one, which I think is a pity because I think it’s a good product. I picked mine up a year back, if I remember correctly, and loved it from the get go. I didn’t talk about it however, because I thought it was a limited edition product. Perhaps it was, and it’s now permanent, I’m not sure. Either way, it’s easily available, and I wanted to tell you about it 🙂

When I started out learning about makeup and how to use it, I stumbled upon this thing called a “primer”. It all made sense, when put in a painting context – you prime your walls, before you apply your paint. It helps the paint stick better, and last longer, and creates a smoother finish. When I had my walls painted, I made sure they put on a primer too! LOL!

But, what d’ya know? That’s what makeup primer does too! We discussed this once right here on the blog, but that was way back in 2012 – a lot has changed in 5 years! Or has it?

If you watch YouTube videos and try to learn about makeup, primer is always used. If you have oily skin, primer is recommended to keep the skin oil-free for longer. If you have visible pores, primer helps create a smooth finish.

Yet, how often do you use a makeup primer? Or rather, do you use any at all? 😀

Makeup trends, as with most trends, tend to have a cyclical nature and if there’s one thing I’ve noticed recently, is the rise of matte lipstick. Personally, I’m not that much of a fan of matte lips. I like a bit of shine to the lips – I feel it’s more flattering. But this is a personal thing of course. I know of people who’d wear nothing but matte lipstick and hey, that’s fine too!

But coming on this trend of creamy, semi-matte lipstick is the Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Lip Color lipstick that’s been available since the beginning of the year. I haven’t seen a lot of press on this, but if you love wearing intense coloured lipsticks with vibrant colours then you might want to take a look at this range.

The packaging is sleek and compact, with a matte exterior to reflect the texture of the lipstick. The quirky side of me happens to enjoy the names of the lipsticks, which are all named with risqué names, as befitting the range – Velour Lovers. Unlike the nameplay of Nars, these have a slightly more nuanced naming convention. The bright pink you see above is French Kiss, for example. The other I’ll show you is Coquette, and others I’ve seen are Boudoir, Sensual, Infatuation and Fore Play, just to name a few.
