Tip: Enjoy a luxury perfume for less by using the body wash and bring a little luxury into your everyday

April 25, 2018 Paris B 8 Comments

This is a little tip I stumbled upon rather by accident quite a few years ago. It was helpful for me, and I reckoned some of you might benefit from it too because it’s a bit of a money saver as well!

It goes like this.

jo malone body wash, dior j'adore shower cream, atelier cologne body wash

You know how expensive perfumes can be? Yeah, I saw you wince. Many of us would like to own that Jo Malone, or Diptyque, or Dior, or Chanel fragrance, but find it hard to part with so much money up front. Or perhaps you aren’t sure if it’s a scent you’d love after you spring so much money on it.

Here’s my tip for you.

Buy the shower gel or body wash. “But isn’t that terribly decadent?” I hear you say. Yes, it is. But there’s a method to my madness 😛 Hear me out!

Dipping my fingers into the Kiehl’s Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydrating Mask 6 months after its launch

February 26, 2018 Paris B 14 Comments

The Kiehl’s Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydrating Mask was launched some time last year. I’ll tell you that I rather liked it. But I couldn’t tell you about it earlier, because my last experience with something I enjoyed from Kiehl’s didn’t have a happy ending. I told myself then, that I’d give all new releases from Kiehl’s 6 months, just in case they change their mind.

Well, more than 6 months have passed and the Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydrating Mask is still around, so I guess it’s safe to talk about it now LOL!

This joins Kiehl’s’ mask wardrobe, offering a hydration boost to skin. I enjoyed using the other versions of the Kiehl’s masks, and I was wondering if I might like this one too.

When Kiehl’s launched it, they tried to sell me the idea of multi-masking, by applying different masks on different parts of the face. It isn’t a new concept, as people have been doing it for a while. For some reason, it amuses people to have different coloured masks on different parts of the face. However, I never bought into that technique.

I multi-mask. But I do so, one after another. A clay mask, or a peel type mask, followed by a soothing and hydrating mask. I feel that I derive the most benefit this way, rather than only treating one part of my face at any one time. But that’s me! Onto this mask 🙂

Let’s get your oil on! The Facial Oils I love, like and am on the fence about

September 8, 2017 Paris B 24 Comments

Facial oils are really hot right now. So many brands are coming out with their version of facial oils, and you know it’s a hit product when even mainstream brands get in on the act. I’d actually used rosehip oil many years ago, as a teen, but wasn’t quite educated on the best way to use it, so I really hated it because it was so damned sticky! I returned to facial oils a few years back, when I found that my skin was turning drier, and with a little trial and error, have worked out the best way to use them. I now love facial oils, and I’m always looking out for the next one to try!

I thought I’d give you a run down on the oils I’ve used (some older ones won’t be included as I no longer have or use them, so I can’t talk about them) to give you an idea of what sort of oils I like, and how I use them. It is non-exhaustive, as I have more to showcase in time to come!

facial oils

Just briefly, despite what we might think, oils are actually good for our skin, not only dry skin, but even oily or combination skin types can benefit. You just have to find the right oil for your skin and that you feel most comfortable using. Naturally, drier skin types will benefit more from using facial oils, as it helps to rebalance your lipids and nourish your skin, so it stays more supple and moisturised.

Does it take the place of a moisturiser or a serum? Personally speaking, I’ll say no. I use a moisturiser or cream over my oils to seal them in. Opinions vary on this, where some people say that the oils go on last, but I’m sticking to my way, because it works for me both physically, and logically. If you have oily skin however, you may just want to end off with the oil and skip moisturiser, as anything else on top may feel heavy.

So, here are some oils that I use and how I use them, to give you an idea of where to start. Settle in 🙂 Please feel free to ask or share in the comments. I’m happy to talk about facial oils to anyone! 😀

Your Say: Do you use tinted lip balm? Here are 5 I’m using right now

July 19, 2017 Paris B 39 Comments

I have a theory about using lip balm, that centers on it causing over-dependancy. But don’t take my word for it. It’s just my personal theory LOL In cool, dry weather, I welcome lip balm to prevent chapped lips. But not otherwise.

tinted lip balm kiehls butterstick, fresh sugar, clarins joli baume, bobbi brown extra tint, dior lip glow

That said, I’ve found myself reaching for certain lip products in my stash in recent times. I blame the weather. It’s been hot and cloudy by turns (which is playing merry hell with my health!) and I just don’t really feel like putting on lipstick. So, I go for something light in colour, and balmy in texture. Just to give my lips that little bit of shine and a hint of colour.

For this purpose, tinted lip balm serves its purpose. It’s generally lighter in colour than most balm-lipstick hybrids, and gives lips a bit of shine. Here are 5 I’ve been using lately – what are your faves?
