My perfume preferences have changed and it has been a rather interesting learning curve

Perfumes and fragrances are such personal things. I would never presume to impose my views about them on anyone, which is why I don’t seem to talk about them very much, although I enjoy using them.

It’s hard to talk about a perfume when you don’t have a very sensitive nose for different notes, and also when perfume afficionados can be rather intimidating, and have preconceived notions about what people should like.

There is a bit of a competitive edge, I feel, among perfume fans, who seem to scorn the more mainstream scents and brands, and who prefer seeking out the niche and unique.

Nothing wrong with that, except that it makes it challenging to discuss perfumes when everyone else is so much more knowledgeable, and what you like seems to attract a raised brow.

That said, I used to have a very strong, unwavering preference for scents. But some time in the last 6 months or so, something changed. And so did my perfume choices.

Each year, Jo Malone London launches a special edition fragrance for the Christmas season. Last year, it was the Green Almond and Redcurrant cologne. This year, Christmas brings around the Jo Malone White Moss and Snowdrop cologne.

Truth to tell, I wasn’t sure what to expect.

While I love smelling the smell of Christmas around me, I much rather not wear it, thank you. The smell of Christmas to me is everything we have been taught is symbolic of Christmas – the woody resin notes of pine cones, the warm spiciness of mulled wine, the smoky smells of a crackling fire, the crisp winter air, gingerbread cookies!

None of which is present here in hot, muggy, rainy, squelchy Malaysia.

Sigh. LOL! 😀

So I approached Jo Malone White Moss & Snowdrop with a touch of trepidation. Was it going to evoke all these images of a White Christmas that jars terribly with my warm (currently wet) surroundings?

Hello Honey! Let’s traipse into an English garden to smell the fresh new Jo Malone Honeysuckle & Davana cologne

Jo Malone releases a brand new scent each year (sometimes, a few times a year) and last year’s autumnal scent was a big hit for me! This year, when I saw that the new scent is the Jo Malone Honeysuckle & Davana cologne, my heart fell a little.

Honeysuckle, as the name implies, is very sweet in scent. If there’s one type of scent that I abhor, it is that of a sticky, sweet, floral. Not for me!

But I was curious as to what “Davana” was. I’d never heard of it, so I looked it up. Davana, as it turns out, is an aromatic herb (Artemisia Pallens), cultivated to harvest its oil, which is used as essential oil then used in perfumes. It is supposed to smell sweet and fruity, but smells different on different people. So, now you know what Davana is! 😀

But more interestingly, how does the Jo Malone Honeysuckle & Davana cologne smell?

Tip: Enjoy a luxury perfume for less by using the body wash and bring a little luxury into your everyday

This is a little tip I stumbled upon rather by accident quite a few years ago. It was helpful for me, and I reckoned some of you might benefit from it too because it’s a bit of a money saver as well!

It goes like this.

You know how expensive perfumes can be? Yeah, I saw you wince. Many of us would like to own that Jo Malone, or Diptyque, or Dior, or Chanel fragrance, but find it hard to part with so much money up front. Or perhaps you aren’t sure if it’s a scent you’d love after you spring so much money on it.

Here’s my tip for you.

Buy the shower gel or body wash. “But isn’t that terribly decadent?” I hear you say. Yes, it is. But there’s a method to my madness 😛 Hear me out!
