Look Book: Classic Eyes and Sexy Lips

May 29, 2009 Paris B 14 Comments

definite cosmetics

What are classic eyes and sexy lips? A study in contrasts of course 😛

For me, a classic eye is one done with a neutral toned shadow colours tempered with black for definition whilst sexy lips call for a red toned creamy lipstick. I used a bunch of colours from Definite Makeup Cosmetics.

Classic Light Foundation

It  being a classic sort of look, I kept my foundation light. I did not want something too thick so as to look artificial. I used the Miracle Splash Liquid Foundation (RM125) which is sheer but I liked it because it was light in texture. However, if you prefer coverage, you won’t like this. I set it with some loose powder. I’d just as easily use I Nuovi Gelbase foundation for a light sheer look. I didn’t do a very good job of concealing but what the hey! 🙂

Cat Eye Looks Showcase & I’m part of the Malaysia Book of Records!

May 20, 2009 Paris B 27 Comments

When I first asked for submissions for cat eye makeup looks, no one seemed to take me up on the offer but as we went on (and after a bit of prodding), a couple of girls finally submitted their versions of the cat eye look – thanks dearies! Here’s my cat eye look with the reader submissions below.

Cat Eye Makeup Look

For my look, I used the following:-

  • Bobbi Brown Sepia Gel Eyeliner lined thickly along upper lash and winged out. Same colour lined halfway from the outside of the lower lashline and end of eye colored in for an upturned winged look.
  • I Nuovi D27 eyeshadow in Sabrina (black with sparkles) tapped along the upper lashline and smoked out at outer corners.
  • Definite Makeup eyeshadow in Classic Sunflower on whole of upper lid and blended with the black eyeshadow.
  • Bourjois Argent (metallic silver) along inner corners and inner corner of lower lashline to open up the eyes.
  • Maybelline Cat Eye Mascara on upper and lower lashes.

Its actually my first time doing a cat eye look and I was quite nervous about playing with that much gel eyeliner. I look like I’m about to pounce don’t I 😛 In person, it was really dramatic and strictly for night use only; but the camera washed out colours a little and made it look more wearable. Any thoughts on how I did? 🙂 I thought it looked more Egyptian than catty teehee…

The others who have deigned to share their cat eye looks are showcased below together with my being a part of the Malaysia book of records! 😀

Review: I Nuovi Cosmetics Gelbase liquid foundation

April 20, 2009 Paris B 29 Comments

I’m no good with liquid foundation. Put me near liquid foundation and immediately my face feels like an oily mask – no matter how light it might be. So, when I was at the I Nuovi store during their friends and family sale, I decided to pick up the I Nuovi Gelbase liquid foundation (amongst other things… hee…)

inuovi gelbase foundation

The promise that was made to me was that the Gelbase foundation is so light that I wouldn’t feel like I was wearing a mask. Also, I was told that it does not rub off easily and defies running even after jogging! Ok so I got the Gelbase foundation out of curiosity more than anything else! 😉

I put it on on a day when I knew I’d have a rough day at work – I mean this literally. I knew I was going to be out in the hot sun, waiting around for hours in the heat and (horrors!) sweating so what better way to test out the foundation right?

The I Nuovi Gelbase foundation is as what it says – gel based. The texture is slightly bouncy and is a light gel that spreads easily on the face. The colour I got was 2C – one of the lightest in the range – it was all they had in store.

The drawback to the I Nuovi Gelbase foundation is that its sheer. Ok, its super sheer! They aren’t kidding when they labelled this a “Sheer Finish Gel Foundation”. If you are looking for coverage, do not even consider the Gelbase or you will come running back to me complaining about how it covers nothing. So, if you want something that covers don’t get this.

How to keep your makeup on when you sweat?

March 24, 2009 Paris B 26 Comments

hot

I received an email recently from reader Melinda Rudy with the following enquiry:-

I’m not sure whether to ask you this, but this thing really bothered me. I have trouble applying make up since my face sweat a lot. I have oily + sensitive skin. And i sweat after walking for 5 minutes or expose to the sun for 1 minute. Could you please suggest a way/brand that is suitable with my current situation?

I did send Melinda a reply, but I thought it would make an interesting post too. The essence of the issue here is how to keep makeup on your skin when you know you will perspire or sweat.

Use a Makeup Primer or Makeup Base under foundation

To counteract oily skin and to keep foundation from sliding off when you sweat, try using a makeup primer or makeup base. The silicone in makeup primers will help hold your foundation in place. I have found from personal experience that powder foundations slide off less quickly than liquid foundations so you could try that over a base. If you can afford it, I loved the Guerlain Meteorites Pearles primer but a budget choice would be the Revlon Perfecting Primer.

Use a waterproof mascara and eyeliner

If you know you are going to sweat or cry or to have panda eyes in general, try a waterproof mascara or waterproof eyeliner. For waterproof mascara I like Diorshow Iconic or for a budget choice, try Maybelline. For eyeliner, I like the Guerlain Kohl pencil or I Nuovi Metallic liquid liner or for those on a budget, Silkygirl Funky Eye Lights rock!  A budge-proof gel eyeliner I have also tried is by Bloop de Paris – it seriously does not budge and its budget price too!
