Tip: Proper way to apply Moisturizer

August 25, 2009 Paris B 47 Comments

how much moisturizer you need

How do you apply your moisturizer?

I used to do the 5 dot method – 1 dot each on my forehead, cheeks, nose and chin and then massage into the skin. I may stick my head out to say that almost everyone does it this way right?

Well, I’ve just learnt that this might just be too much! And if your skin cannot absorb that much, the balance sits on the surface making it feel oily and masky and ick. Not only that, too much might mean its too sticky and rich so it clogs your pores and makes you break out.

I’ve been taught recently by an SA at Clinique that the proper way or perhaps the more advisable way to apply moisturizer is as follows:-

  • Scoop or pump a dollop of moisturizer into the palm of your hand. It should be only a small dollop, about the size of a pea. See picture of pea size above 🙂
  • Rub your palms together, warming up the moisturizer and spreading it between your palms.
  • Start with your cheeks and then spread the moisturizer gently to your forehead and nose and lastly the chin.

If you have gone for facials, you may notice that your beautician will usually apply your moisturizer this way (at least the ones I go to). They never dot the moisturizer on your skin but spread it between their hands first. There are some benefits to that technique.

Review: Skincare: H20+ Face Oasis Hydrating Treatment

February 19, 2009 Paris B 36 Comments

H20+ (H2O plus) swam into my radar about 3 years ago when I browsed online a lot. I also tested out some products from their store in Hong Kong as I was not aware if there was a store in Malaysia. It turns out they do but its been pretty low key.

H20plus Face Oasis Hydrating Treatment gel

A star product of H20+ has been their Face Oasis Hydrating Treatment gel (link). I had the opportunity to try this one out recently after reading so much about it, and I must say it lives right up to the hype!

The H2O+ Face Oasis Hydrating Treatment Gel comes in a tub. Here’s where I come in with my hygiene concerns because you have to dip your fingers into the tub to get at the gel. You could transfer out the gel into smaller tubs though – that does cut down contamination somewhat.

The gel is a striking turquoise blue – I love the color – it reminds me of the sea and since it contains a patented Sea Mineral Complex, it is most fitting too! The gel is very very light but spreads very well.

According to H2O+ the sea mineral complex helps attract, transport and distribute moisture equivalent to eight glasses of water. All thats well and good but how did my skin like it?
