What, Why, How: Tips for bringing a packed lunch with #PBPacksLunch

March 27, 2015 Paris B 34 Comments

This year, due to various circumstances, which includes the lack of good food near work, and the rising prices of food, especially at the hawkers, I decided to make it a point to bring my lunches to work. I used to a while ago, but as with a lot of things, it didn’t last as long as it should.

But I’m going strong now, and I attribute it to Instagram, where I slot in pictures of my packed lunches in between my beauty updates, and I tag them #PBPacksLunch and you know what makes it fun? The interaction I get! 😀

packed lunch

And what makes it even more fun is that some people have told me that it’s inspired them to pack their own lunches, and that spawned a new hashtag #PBMadeMePackLunch. No, I don’t make packed lunches for people, but I try to inspire people to join me 😀

But what I’ve also been asked, is about the “equipment” I use to carry my lunches to work, especially hot lunches, because I enjoy eating hot food better than cold; and my process. So I promised I’d write a post on why packed lunches are a good thing and what you can use and here it is! 🙂

Naturally, if you too pack lunch to work, I’d love to hear your ideas! If you want to start, I hope this helps!

Scrumptious Weekend No. 31: Old School Fermented Bean Curd Fried Chicken

October 11, 2014 Paris B 17 Comments

Ok, who doesn’t enjoy eating fried chicken? You don’t? Oh dear, I don’t think we can be friends anymore 🙁

I enjoy a good, old school fried chicken that is basically no-frills and easy to marinade and when tossed into hot oil, emerges as golden brown, fragrant comfort food goodness. Ah! 😀

fermented bean curd fried chicken

I made this just a few days ago and posted it on Instagram (where I talk as much about food as I do about beauty) and someone asked for the recipe so I thought I’d do a quick Scrumptious Weekend post. I haven’t done one of these in a while apparently. The last was in February! Gosh… yes I have been eating and cooking in that time haha! 😀

So here is my super easy, super quick recipe for Fermented Bean Curd (Tau Ju) Fried Chicken and if you have a good recipe for fried chicken, please share! 😀

Tip: Taking Cod Liver Oil for health helped improve my skin too

June 3, 2014 Paris B 45 Comments

When I was a kid, I remember being force-fed a foul smelling white emulsion that I came to fear and run away from the minute I see the bottle appear. Hands up if you too were averse to Scott’s Cod Liver Oil Emulsion 😛 The minute I could assert my rights, I refused to take any more of it and that was that.

However, I was recently nursing a very bad cough that was dragging on for weeks and I suddenly remembered my Mom telling me that taking cod liver oil would help. Well, I wasn’t about to down that foul emulsion anymore so I got a bottle of cod liver oil capsules from the brand Seven Seas.

cod liver oil

I was told that I could take a slightly higher dose to start, and the recommended dose was 1-2 capsules 3 times a day. So I would take about 8 capsules a day. My cough did go away eventually (a combination of antibiotics, cough mixture) but I continued taking the cod liver oil capsules since I already had a bottle of it, and to build up my immunity.

About a month and after taking 100 capsules, I woke up one day to a realization that not only was my cough almost gone, my skin was looking and feeling better than it has been in a while, despite the fact I’d been sick as a dog and under tremendous life stress. I had some marks from some stubborn cystic acne spots around my chin and mouth and my skin was feeling a bit clogged and bumpy and just blah.

But I hadn’t been experiencing that lately. Instead, I noticed that my skin was looking a lot better. It felt significantly smoother, pores looked smaller, skin looked more refined and glowy and most of the pesky spots and clogged pores were all but gone. Blemishes and marks healed and disappeared quickly and scarring and marking of skin was minimal. That was when I wondered “Could it be that the cod liver oil was helping my skin look better?”

Scrumptious Weekend Vol. 30 : Homecooked nostalgia – Long Bean Savoury Rice

February 22, 2014 Paris B 26 Comments

I haven’t been keeping up with my Scrumptious Weekend posts have I? It’s partly to do with a change in approach and time at my end, but also because I haven’t had very note-worthy scrumptious eats lately. I do share a lot of them on Instagram as some of you would have undoubtedly noticed 😀

However, I cooked something tummy warming and nostalgic this week and posted it on Instagram, and it generated some interest among some of you who wanted to know how I made it, so I thought I’d quickly share how I did it. It’s far too difficult to type on the phone or to summarize it all into 140 characters 😛

savoury rice

What I made was long bean savoury rice, a homecooked favourite and a one pot wonder that tastes even better the next day after being heated up in a pan and topped with a fried egg! 😀

Here’s a quick recipe how I did did it, based on how my Mom and late granny used to cook it 🙂

An “I’ll be out all day and need my makeup to An “I’ll be out all day and need my makeup to stay on” look 😅 Super simple and using stuff I already own. How many do you recognise? 😅

For the base I think the key is the Nars setting powder which is basically a silica powder. Many brands have similar white powder for setting. I did this same look yesterday and it barely budged/faded by evening. Only lipstick needed a little topping up 😊

And this is about all the makeup I can handle these days 😂 no eye makeup cos I can’t be arsed 🤪

Excellent good fun! 😆 Your eyes always want more than your stomach can handle. Ate a lot and bought even more food back home. Diet? What diet? 😂
Will have to admit that this serum from @drsambunt Will have to admit that this serum from @drsambunting had me curious about Azelaic acid. It’s a pretty good serum for brightening if Vit C isn’t quite your thing. It’s a 4-in-1 combo of pretty potent ingredients.

Posting for posterity because I like this photo 😆 Also hello! 😜

It’s interesting that when I meet people they always ask me “Are you still blogging?” which tells me they don’t read my blog anymore (cos if they did they’d know I am lol! Weekly generally, but still writing) Yet I don’t blame them because a lot of social credit is placed on one’s Instagram presence. This I fear, is an area I am lacking. I pop in every now and then, share stories that are totally unrelated to what people follow me for, then wonder why they unfollow lol! Other times, spider webs gather in the corners of my unused account. I don’t blame them. Not everyone wants to know what my dogs are up to 😜

Anyway I make no apologies. It’s ok if you follow. It’s ok if you don’t. It’s ok if you’re interested in stuff I do. It’s ok if you’re not. Life goes on for both you and I and ultimately, we just both want it to be happy. So do what makes you happy 😊 I’ll still share my beauty finds and I still blog once a week. I may share what I’m up to from time to time, or I may not. I can tell you that I’m keeping busy and that I have a lot on my plate, none of it glamorous unlike that of most content creators/influencers. It’s too boring for most for me to share here so I’ll just share the good bits - as Instagram intended 😂

But if you want to find me, you’ll know how 😊

The review for the product is somewhere on the blog mywomenstuff.com
Yes I know many of you are terrified of lizards 🦎🫣

But I liked this sunscreen - for the body. Even though it left a white cast. Even though it is hard to remove. It kept my arms protected through a weekend of brutal sun exposure and I survived without burning! ✌🏻
