LovingMinerals Handy Kabuki – A pretty handy little tool!

September 10, 2009 Paris B 14 Comments

I was pleasantly surprised to know that local mineral makeup distributor LovingMinerals.com has designed their own kabuki brush aptly named Handy Kabuki! Unlike the normal short handled kabuki brushes, I found the brush head slightly less compact and dense – and that is a GOOD thing!

You see, a slightly more pliable brush head means that it will not apply powder as thickly as a regular dense kabuki brush, and it can be applied towards a myriad of uses. I can use this one Handy Kabuki to do my whole face! Let me tell you how 🙂

Handy Kabuki for powder foundation

If you use mineral powder foundation, this operates the same way as the regular kabuki brush. You swirl the powder, apply and buff it into your skin.

If you use a kabuki brush for compact powder (as I do) you do the same, swipe the powder, apply and blend.

The Handy Kabuki applies powder with sufficient coverage yet not too thickly so you don’t end up with blotchy powder coverage. Blending is a breeze because its so soft on the skin. The brush head feels about as soft as the Everyday Minerals long handled kabuki but at the same time, feels slightly more substantial. I found that my EDM flat top brush has started splaying which is starting to bug me.

Everyday Minerals Flat Top brush vs Lumiere Cosmetics Kabuki brush

September 2, 2009 Paris B 27 Comments

Woohoo! As requested a while ago, here’s a showdown challenge between the Everyday Minerals Flat Top brush and the Lumiere Cosmetics Kabuki brush. Both are highly rated for mineral foundation application.

EDM flat top vs Lumiere Kabuki

But how do they rate against each other?

Note: I do not use mineral foundation. The challenge was done using 2-way powder foundation.

Everyday Minerals flat top feels softer on the skin

Both brushes are lovely and soft on the skin. However, the Everyday Minerals brush feels just a touch softer on my skin. The Lumiere kabuki is a little floppier but its also nice – its a matter of which you prefer.

Everyday Minerals flat top applies with more coverage

Both brushes are dense and pick up powder well. Its advisable to tap off excess before applying. However, I find the flat top brush picks up more colour and applies foundation with more coverage.

If you want something more sheer the Lumiere kabuki is advisable. It deposits powder and colour more evenly. The Everyday Minerals flat top deposits colour more heavily but still less so than a sponge.

Review: Everyday Minerals Flat Top Brush

June 3, 2009 Paris B 19 Comments

I no longer use mineral makeup for various reasons not least of which problems with color matching is one and untold reactions are another. I’m presently happy with my powder foundations from various brands and I don’t intend to stray 🙂

Everyday Minerals Flat Top brush

That said, with the Everyday Minerals Flat Top brush mocking me for abandoning mineral foundation, I had to find another use for it. And find it I did!

The Everyday Minerals flat top brush is excellent for applying powder foundation!

All the benefits of the flat top brush comes to play when using powder foundations as with mineral foundation. The packed synthetic bristles are super soft on the skin and easy to wash (although it takes AGES to dry) and it applies powder foundation like a dream.
