If high coverage foundation’s your thing, the Estee Lauder Futurist Aqua Brilliance Makeup Foundation is brilliant

August 15, 2016 Paris B 19 Comments

It’s easy to get caught up in the lure of all that’s new and wonderful when you’re immersed in the world of beauty. As bloggers, it happens all the time because that’s what we’re often fed – the new. So, when a long time reader, pondsandleaves, steered me not-so-gently in the direction of something not so new, I thought it was a good idea to see how good it was.

The product in question was a foundation – the Estee Lauder Futurist Aqua Brilliance Makeup foundation. For some reason, this one had slipped right under my foundation radar (yes, I have a foundation radar – it’s one makeup item I tend to gravitate towards) and I was very intrigued!

What the Estee Lauder Futurist Aqua Brilliance Makeup foundation claims is a luminous and hydrated visage, with medium to full coverage. I will attest to the coverage. I don’t usually wear high coverage foundation, so it took me a while to get used to this one. As it turns out though, I think it’s a brilliant foundation and deserves a little more hype! Come on, give it up for the future! 😛

Navigate the lipstick jungle : 5 creamy lipsticks worth splurging on

May 23, 2016 Paris B 20 Comments

Lipstick, like blush and foundation, is a bit of a weakness of mine. I love checking out new formulations on offer, although I’ve learned since that I much prefer solid lipsticks, and I like certain textures better than others. It allows me to not make costly errors the way I used to before!

5 creamy lipsticks worth splurging on

When I started out using lipstick, I preferred the lighter, moisturising balm-textured lipsticks. I still like them, but these days, I find myself busting out the creamy, opaque textured ones more. They last longer on lips, they aren’t too glossy, but they aren’t flat and matte either. They are, in the words of Goldilocks, just right! 😀 I call them my adult lipsticks – good for adulting 😀

As many of you know, my tastes in makeup tend to run to the higher end brands, so after playing the field, here are 5 creamy lipsticks worth splurging on! 😀

Your say: Are you attracted to limited edition beauty products, like that Estee Lauder ANR golden bottle?

January 26, 2016 Paris B 13 Comments

“Limited edition” is a catch-phrase in the beauty world, I’ve come to realise. Dangle this carrot before beauty lovers and before you know it, a whole collection has been snapped up; or queues have formed around the block. Oh yes, apparently this queue thing does happen. Then, some unscrupulous people hawk their finds on ebay, hoping to make a quick buck – Hey, I’ve done it back in the day. Yes, I made a pretty penny but it was too hard to keep up and too much of a hassle, so I no longer sell things online.

It isn’t limited to just beauty though. Last year, Louis Vuitton released an adorable print collection for Christmas, the Evasion collection. I wasn’t too taken by it, but I was curious, and stopped by the LV store to take a look. The one item I was most keen to check out was the mini pochette, but I was told that it was sold out and had been since its launch, where it quite literally flew off the shelves.

Now, LV isn’t exactly like makeup or skincare. It’s not something you can just go “Oh, I’ll take one of that, and that and maybe that, why not?” without melting your credit card in the process. Yet, it sold out very quickly everywhere, because it was a limited edition product (and probably because it was cute).

I most recently came to know that one of my favourite skincare products has now received the limited edition treatment as well! In celebration of the forthcoming Chinese (Lunar) New Year celebrations beginning on 8 February 2016, the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II has been repackaged from its signature brown bottle, to a shiny golden bottle, packaged with a complimentary key chain with a Monkey charm, because it’s the Lunar Year of the Monkey! 😀

It’s probably no secret that I really enjoy using this product, and I have a bottle on stand by in my skincare at all times. I use a lot of products, but this one remains a mainstay simply because it works! And the thing is, I know this is a favourite serum for many people, and one of the bestsellers for Estee Lauder, which is why I was a little surprised and not a little amused at the creativity that came with this newest limited edition offer.

But are you generally attracted to limited edition items or packaging, especially for skincare products? 😀

Estee Lauder has me gripped by Cold Fire in the new Pure Color Envy Liquid Lip Potion

September 21, 2015 Paris B 18 Comments

I love wearing lipstick, but I’m a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to lipstick. I prefer using the actual solid bullet form. There’s something just more adult, or even sexier, applying lipstick from the bullet. That, and texture, is why I never really warmed to wearing lip gloss.

Then a few years ago, we saw liquid lipstick appear on the scene. All the opacity and strength of colour of a lipstick, in a liquid form. I never took to it. Sure, there were the odd ones I liked, but they don’t turn my head the way a regular lipstick would. In my mind, they were always, almost like a beginner lipstick; or even a transition product, for those who prefer lip gloss, to ease their way into wearing lipsticks.

So I was rather surprised to see that the Estee Lauder Pure Envy Color lipstick stable now sports the Liquid Lip Potion, a liquid lipstick.

It has been available since August, I believe, but I’ve taken a while to decide how I feel about it, or if my prejudices against liquid lip products would rear its ugly head.

The Pure Envy Color Liquid Lip Potion is a liquid lipstick. Imagine, if you will, a lipstick melted into a liquid form which you then apply with a doe foot applicator, very much like a lip gloss. You get all the pigment of a lipstick, in the form of a liquid. Now, if I’m to be honest, I don’t get why Estee Lauder needed this product.

They already have an excellent range of Pure Color Envy and Pure Color Envy Shine lipsticks. Both are lightweight in texture, comfortable to wear and have good colour pay off, or shine as the case may be. I wasn’t quite sure where the Liquid Lip Potion fit; and that pretty much sums up how I feel – confused.
