The Estee Lauder Advanced Night Micro Cleansing Balm is good stuff but something about it bugged me

May 8, 2017 Paris B 24 Comments

The Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum is iconic. It is also a favourite of mine, partly for sentimental reasons (I know that’s a weird reason to like a product, but it worked for me for many years when I was younger) and because I still find it effective at giving my skin the glowy boost it needs when my skin is tired. It works for me that way.

The Advanced Night Repair serum stood out on its own, in its little brown bottle in the Estee Lauder stable. But it’s now the core of a brand new range, with the introduction of the Ampoules, a Mask in Oil and also, strangely enough, a cleansing balm!

The Estee Lauder Advanced Night Micro Cleansing Balm comes in a jar with a shiny golden cover, bearing the iconic stripes along the edge, that brings it within the Advanced Night range of products.

There was a lot of rave about this, and I had quite a few people telling me I had to give it a go, because everyone knows I love cleansing balms and this was a good one to add to my repository. I’d had it with me for a while, and I’m going to tell you that it’s good. I will not deny it.

Yet, something bothered me about it. There was a niggling feeling at the back of my mind that I could not quite ignore, and just a few days ago, the penny dropped. Now, I’m ready to tell you what I think! 😀

Helping skin regain some calm with Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Intensive Recovery Ampoules

February 13, 2017 Paris B 13 Comments

It’s no secret by now that I’m a big fan of the famed Estee Lauder ‘little brown bottle’ that holds the elixir that is the Advanced Night Repair serum. I’d been using it off and on since I started earning my own keep and always have something good to say about it.

In 2016, Estee Lauder introduced the Advanced Night Repair Intensive Recovery Ampoules. I received a bottle back then, tested it out for a while, but couldn’t put my finger on what I thought of it, well, till now!

Ampoules are a small sealed vial or capsule, containing a one time dose of intensive serum or product. While Korean skincare has been credited in recent times for its popularity, they aren’t new in the world of skin care. Brands like Elemis and Elizabeth Arden have had, for years, products packaged in a similar fashion, and some salon brands have salon exclusive intensive products that come in glass vials. I guess they just weren’t as sexy as Korean skincare made them out to be.

Because I already use the Advanced Night Repair serum and other serums and products, how would this ANR Intensive Recovery Ampoules (“ANR Ampoules”) fit in my skincare routine?

8 beauty products you may want to save your Lunar New Year ‘ang pow’ money for

January 27, 2017 Paris B 18 Comments

The Chinese Lunar New Year festivities are upon us once again, with the Rooster cock-a-doodle-dooing its way in this year. It’s quite early this time around, coming hot on the heels of a brand new year and the year end festivities that ensued. I’m not even sure most of us (and our wallets) have recovered yet!

It is during the Chinese New Year that, as kids, we stood to make a little money LOL It’s tradition to give out lucky red packets (or what we call ‘ang pow’ or in Mandarin ‘hong bao’) with cash it in, for good luck. Chinese, luck, prosperity and money always go hand in hand LOL!

While most of us will be on the giving end, as opposed to the receiving end by now, I nevertheless thought I’d share with you 8 things you could spend your ang pow money on. Not all on once, naturally, but if you’re looking for a little treat to kick off the year, or to welcome in the Year of the Fire Rooster (or what I’d call Roast Chicken Year LOL! 😀 ) here are some personal favourites.

Some are new and coming soon, I got them as a preview, and some I’ve had a while, but are now available here. So, just quickly (because I don’t want to take you away from family time – or perhaps you relish this little time away eh? 😉 ) here are the 8 items I picked. Chinese like the number 8 ok – it’s lucky LOL! 😀

Achieve sweaty-sexy shine on skin with the Victoria Beckham x Estee Lauder Morning Aura

October 17, 2016 Paris B 5 Comments

I happened to be in Singapore, when the Victoria Beckham x Estee Lauder collection was launched. It is a nice sized collection, not too large as to be overwhelming, and not too small as to be insignificant. There were some nice touches – the Modern Mercury highlighter was a big hit of course. It should be, it’s beautiful, both to look at, and on skin (albeit not on anyone too fair – it shows up a little warm on my skintone) The eyeshadow palette drew a lot of attention, because in the big scheme of things, it was the most “worth it” to buy – 6 colours for 1 rather large price.

Yet, my eye was drawn to a product that wasn’t being put at the front and centre of the collection. A tall, beautiful, fluted gold cylinder, that stood at the back, a little retiring, almost a little shy.

I didn’t purchase anything back then, but when I got home, the very item I coveted from the range dropped on my desk, and I picked it up with a squeal of delight. Ok, no squealing. I don’t squeal. I might have run around in little circles, pumping my fists with glee instead LOL! 😀

The item I coveted, and had my eye on was the Victoria Beckham x Estee Lauder Morning Aura – an illuminating cream, primer thing, that basically serves little function, except to, as Victoria Beckham says, give your skin a fresh morning glow.

I took it for a spin for a few days, but couldn’t help that niggling feeling at the back of my mind that there was something terribly familiar about it. Happily, I worked out what it was, and oh hey, if you miss it, I might be able to share a “dupe” with you! 😉
