Save & Splurge: Comparing the Hakuhodo and Chanel Retractable brushes and affordable Mini Travel-sized face brushes

May 15, 2019 Paris B 9 Comments

After my rant about the retractable (but not) brush from Guerlain a few days ago, I was reminded of a reader request. Someone had requested my thoughts on the Chanel Les Pinceaux de Chanel Retractable Highlighter Brush as compared to the Hakuhodo Retractable Brush that I bought as a souvenir from Japan last year.

I’d kept the post at the back of my mind, intending to write about it, but never quite getting round to it for various reasons. Well, let us remedy that today! 😀

As these brushes also make good travel brushes, I will also show you a few other small/mini brushes that I use for travel purposes, or that are portable. They are affordable so stop cringing! LOL! 😀

The Makeup Brush Collective Part 3: Brushes I use for Blush

January 13, 2017 Paris B 6 Comments

I hope you’ve found the Makeup Brush Collective Part 1 and Part 2 helpful or at least enjoyable! In Part 3, and the final part, I show you the brushes I use most often and the types of brushes I use for cheeks. While in this category there’s usually reference to bronzer, blush and highlighter, I only really use blush the most often. So, I’ll only show you that. I don’t use bronzer, and highlighter is used only sparingly.

The Makeup Brush Collective: Brushes I use for blush

Blush is a weakness of mine, and you’d think that this would be the category where I own or use the most brushes. Well, you’d be wrong actually, because I’d actually worked out quite quickly what worked and what didn’t for me, and what sort of brush I preferred! Also, I’m not very experimental when it comes with blush LOL!

Don’t forget, you have to tell me what your favourite blush brushes are too! 😀

LOL 😀 I try not to flood your feed and there are sometimes some interesting things that don’t make it to the “Highlights on Instagram” feature but here we are with the 6th edition of the highlights of the past 2-3 weeks.

I offer slightly more in-depth thoughts behind some of the images posted so even if you have seen these, read on. There may be some nuggets of info I missed out, and the links in here are actually clickable LOL! 😀

Your Say: Do you need expensive makeup brushes?

October 22, 2013 Paris B 85 Comments

I haven’t been buying a lot of makeup lately (I’ve developed a bit of an unhealthy obsession with other things like skincare and gasp! scented candles) but there’s one thing I’ve been indulging in recently and that’s makeup brushes. Not just any makeup brush, I recently took the plunge and went for a couple of high end, pricey makeup brushes notably from Tom Ford, Hakuhodo and Wayne Goss.

So, I was talking about it online to my friend who’s my sounding board and we got round to discussing these really expensive makeup brushes. I have started seeing a lot of these luxury makeup brushes appear in people’s blogs and Instagram feeds and how everyone goes “OMG you NEED this! It’s perfect for applying blush/eyeshadow/powder” blah blah and I can’t help feeling that it’s not all true, because statements like this sway people and make them irrational.

do you need expensive makeup brushes

Despite the fact I do own some luxury brushes and I enjoy using them, I don’t think anyone actually really “needs” these brushes at all. In fact, while I agree that you need good makeup brushes, I don’t agree that you have to sell a kidney to buy that Hakuhodo or Tom Ford brush, no matter how amazing it is, because you could quite easily get similar results from a more affordable brand, but a GOOD brush.

I think it’ll be interesting to hear your thoughts on this, or if you have compared a luxury brush to a regular one and think that my statement isn’t quite accurate 🙂
