Diptyque takes to the stars on the backs of the Unicorn, Dragon and Phoenix and leaves me starry-eyed!

December 6, 2017 Paris B 16 Comments

I am unabashedly a fan of scented candles, despite detractors, and I have amassed quite a collection over the years from different brands. This year, I told myself I’d be good. I’d burn through the candles I currently own, before buying more. Barring the odd local discovery, I had been good.

And then Diptyque unveiled their Christmas candles, and all resolve went out the window!

This year, Diptyque has collaborated with French artist, Philippe Baudeloque, for their Christmas collection, and I was smitten! Drawing on 3 mythical creatures and set amongst the glittering stars of the cosmos, they had fused 3 of my interests – candles, mythical animals and the stars. I once harboured ambitions of becoming an astronaut. But I was so bad at physics, I gave up on it 😛

The other thing that caught my eye, was the use of coloured wax. Diptyque has, in its permanent collection, candles with coloured wax but I believe this is the first time they were using this coloured wax in their Christmas collection.

Naturally therefore, I had to set aside funds to indulge, for this was not just a candle, it was a beautiful display piece. The question however, was which of the 3 I’d pick up? 😀

8 beauty products you may want to save your Lunar New Year ‘ang pow’ money for

January 27, 2017 Paris B 18 Comments

The Chinese Lunar New Year festivities are upon us once again, with the Rooster cock-a-doodle-dooing its way in this year. It’s quite early this time around, coming hot on the heels of a brand new year and the year end festivities that ensued. I’m not even sure most of us (and our wallets) have recovered yet!

It is during the Chinese New Year that, as kids, we stood to make a little money LOL It’s tradition to give out lucky red packets (or what we call ‘ang pow’ or in Mandarin ‘hong bao’) with cash it in, for good luck. Chinese, luck, prosperity and money always go hand in hand LOL!

While most of us will be on the giving end, as opposed to the receiving end by now, I nevertheless thought I’d share with you 8 things you could spend your ang pow money on. Not all on once, naturally, but if you’re looking for a little treat to kick off the year, or to welcome in the Year of the Fire Rooster (or what I’d call Roast Chicken Year LOL! 😀 ) here are some personal favourites.

Some are new and coming soon, I got them as a preview, and some I’ve had a while, but are now available here. So, just quickly (because I don’t want to take you away from family time – or perhaps you relish this little time away eh? 😉 ) here are the 8 items I picked. Chinese like the number 8 ok – it’s lucky LOL! 😀

Diptyque invites you to spend Une Nuit Chez Diptyque this Christmas

November 16, 2016 Paris B 2 Comments

Christmas time, in a large part of the world is a time of the mini ice age, when snow flurries swirl across the sky and treacherous ice threatens road users and pedestrians. It is a time when the skies will go dark by mid-afternoon and the cold chills you to the bone. It’s no wonder then, that candles and warm scents do well at this time of year. Every bit of cheery light counts!

And no one does Christmas candles quite like Diptyque. Every year, I wait to see what Diptyque has dreamed up for their Christmas collection, and I’m rarely disappointed. Ok, perhaps I have been a little disappointed, but that’s more to do with personal preferences.

This year’s theme at chez Diptyque is Une Nuit Chez Diptyque (A Night at Diptyque), a theme with an interesting story. Legend has it that a long-serving Diptyque staff, Henri who has been with the brand for over 25 years, was snowed in the store at 34 Boulevard St. Germain one Christmas. He fell asleep and had a dream about the store coming to life. He might have overdosed on the Nutcracker, methinks LOL! 😀 But it’s a cute story, and a lovely tribute to a long serving staff member 🙂 I have the video up on the MWS Facebook page, if you’re interested to view it. It’s really cute! 🙂

I’ll just run down some of the offerings, for those who are keen.

The Diptyque Hourglass Diffuser in 34 makes no scents at all

August 29, 2014 Paris B 32 Comments

Alrighty folks, I had a nice piece about the Diptyque Hourglass Diffuser that was all set to publish today when poof! my blog disappeared. Thank you to those of you on Twitter and Facebook who helped me check! It was gone for almost a day, and here’s a tip for all bloggers amongst you – BACK UP! Quick, go do your backups now. I’ll wait.

Back? Ok, so I was going to tell you about this product that I’d had my eye on for the longest time. There was something about the hourglass aesthetic, the heavy glass containers and just the whole idea of a non-exposed home fragrance diffuser that captured my imagination.

I first saw this during the launch of the L’Eau du Trente-Quarte (which is a more musical, more romantic way of saying Water 34) and it had stuck in my mind ever since. It was so bad that at the end of last year, I sucked it up and bought me the Sablier (Hourglass) Home Diffuser in 34.

I love my home fragrances and I usually do scented candles, as many amongst you will know, but I’m always open to alternatives. The only alternatives I knew of was reed diffusers and you know what? I hate them. Hate! They look flimsy and are liable to fall over if you so much as look at them and the reeds gather dust like nothing I’ve ever known. So when I’m introduced to an enclosed, aesthetically pleasing diffuser, I fell.

The problem is that when you fall so hard for something this expensive, you want it to work. And you won’t stand for any truck if it doesn’t. Oh boy, Diptyque. You are in trouble 😛
