Your Say: What is your preferred brow product? Here are some I use

December 14, 2016 Paris B 29 Comments

Hello, friends! Is anyone actually up and about, and raring to go after that lovely long weekend we had here in Malaysia? LOL Well, even if you aren’t, there’s the coming long Christmas weekend to look forward to next week!

I was messing about during the weekend (as you do), and I had a thought – What is your preferred product to use when doing your brows?

brow products

You know me – things like this make me curious, because there are so many brow products out there! There are pencils that you sharpen, retractable pencils, angled pencils, brow mascara, brow pomade…. I honestly never thought there were that many!

I’ve been experimenting with the famed Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade recently, and I’ll share my thoughts on it, alongside telling you if it’s my favourite brow product … and if it isn’t, what is 🙂 Naturally, I’m curious what’s your pick!

Festive golden delights wow in the Dior Splendor Christmas Collection for 2016

December 12, 2016 Paris B 10 Comments

I feel a wee bit bad about putting the Dior Splendor Christmas 2016 collection up only just now, because from what I hear, some items are already sold out. In my defence, I only just got them so I did the best I could with the time I had. Better late than never!

That said, if you are persistent and call around for the items you want, you will be able to get them. I know, because someone on Instagram did, and she got hold of the palette she wanted despite being told it was sold out!

Now isn’t this a Christmas wreath to fulfill all makeup lovers’ dreams?! LOL! I was gifted with some of the items from the collection and I’m going to share with you some pictures and importantly, the swatches from the products you see here. I’ll keep my waffling short, but I will also tell you what I think are the standouts for me.

Oh, and you can actually get your gift ribbon personalised in store, if you purchase from the Dior boutiques. Just tell them what you want it to say, and they’ll print it on the festive red ribbons 😀 Now, onto the swatches! 😀

Cushion Foundation Commentary: Western brands vs Korean brands

September 21, 2016 Paris B 23 Comments

After trying cushion foundations from both Western and Korean brands in recent times, I thought I’d share some quick thoughts on how I feel about how they stack up against each other. They are by no means comprehensive, as the market is quite saturated with cushion foundations and I do not claim to have tried all the brands out there. However, I believe what I’ve tried represents a reasonable cross-section of what’s on offer out there.

For a more detailed insight into the brands I tried, I’d suggest you run through Cushion Foundation Week 1 (Western brand cushions) and Week 2 (Korean brand cushions). I’ve shared in there my thoughts on each of them in greater depth and how they compare to each other.

But for those of you wondering just how similar or different the Western brands have recently approached cushion foundations, which were made popular by the Korean brands, this is what I think.

The sparkling lightness of being that is the Dior J’adore Eau Lumiere perfume

August 31, 2016 Paris B 4 Comments

I’m a contradiction in terms. I don’t mind saying so, because it’s true.

For the most part, when it comes to perfumes, my tastes gravitate towards the clear and clean and spice. But if there’s one perfume I’d pick out of my perfume line up, without hesitating and without even thinking, it would be this floral, feminine scent of Dior J’adore.

It confuses me, because J’adore is everything I DO NOT look for in a perfume. It is floral (indisputably so!), it contains jasmine notes (I detest jasmine) and it comes from a mainstream beauty brand (while I try to go niche). Everything runs contrary to what my head tells me I like, but you know, the heart (and nose) doesn’t lie.

But my love for J’adore isn’t a recent thing. It began in 2011, with the introduction of the J’adore Eau de Toilette. I was much younger, life was more carefree, and it came at a time when I felt ready to take on the challenges ahead, without sacrificing my feminity. I work in a male-dominated environment, and while I know I’m as good as the next man, I had one thing better – I had a nicer perfume (and a prettier bag on my arm)! So there! LOL! 😀

Prior to that, J’adore was primarily sold as an EdP, which had a much stronger, more floral note, and smelled more mature to me. It is a Dior parfum classic, and I’d grown up with images of Charlize Theron in her golden dress, reflecting that iconic golden, long-necked bottle of J’adore filled with the golden liquid perfume within. J’adore was a scent I thought older women would wear.

I was kind of right, because I eventually grew up, and slid comfortably into the target demographic. I’m happy now to wear the J’adore EdP which I carry around in my purse spray, and in the EdT. And then, they just had to go and remake this iconic scent! Cue gasps of horror and pulling of hair 😛
