Tip: Do not use cleansing oils around the eyes or why you should use a separate eye makeup remover

March 27, 2012 Paris B 84 Comments

use a separate eye makeup remover

When I last reviewed a cleansing oil I mentioned that it wasn’t much good at removing my waterproof eye makeup, but that I was not terribly fussed about it, because I no longer use cleansing oils around my eye area. Instead, these days, I use a separate eye makeup remover before using a cleansing oil which I then avoid using around my eye area.

Its nothing new, to be perfectly honest, but the ball as they say, has just dropped for me as to why I should be doing this. And it comes down to the fragile skin around the eyes and how cleansing oils may result in your having more lines around your eyes. Just my thoughts ok, nothing scientifically proven so don’t go jumping all over me 😉

Let’s Start At The Very Beginning : Kanebo Blanchir Make Off Conditioner – What got me hooked on cleansing oils

March 15, 2012 Paris B 72 Comments

The number of cleansing oils I’ve dabbled in is mind boggling (read about all the cleansing oils I’ve tried here if you have the time 😛 ). The number grows day after day because I’m always a little curious about the cleansing oils out there. But how did I fall into this trap then?

Let’s start at the very beginning… 🙂

kanebo blanchir make off conditioner cleansing oil

I was first introduced to cleansing oils and the concept of double cleansing through Kanebo. I’ve been going to their salons for facials for years and still am! I picked up my first bottle of the Kanebo Blanchir Make Off Conditioner there. Despite the rather strange name, what this is, is a cleansing oil – or the first step in the double cleansing routine.

I went through quite a few bottles in my time, before I started branching out. Recently, I decided to go back to this (Its gone through about 3 changes in packaging since the first time I used it) and wouldn’t you know? I fell back in love with it! So, here we are, revisiting my first love and wondering why I ever strayed 🙂

Shu Uemura Fresh Pore Clarifying Cleansing Oil : For use with wet hands too!

September 21, 2011 Paris B 38 Comments

I usually like using something before telling you about it, but this one is such an icon and so interesting (to me and possibly to most cleansing oil users) that I just have to share 🙂 I stopped by the Shu Uemura boutique earlier today and was asked if I knew about the latest cleansing oil innovation. They are proud of their cleansing oils at Shu Uemura. They were No. 1 awarded cleansing oil brand based on Yahoo beauty and have won innumerable awards. I wonder how they’ll do at the MWS Awards 😉

I’m no stranger to Shu Uemura cleansing oils. They were one of my first introductions to cleansing oils and it was at the Shu Uemura counter that I was taught how to use them for the first time. The thing that’s been drilled into me over and over is “Always start with dry hands! Always!”

Ah but now you don’t have to because the new reformulated Shu Uemura Fresh Pore Clarifying Cleansing Oil works even with WET hands. Did I just hear a collective sigh of relief go up? 😀

Olive Oil You Cannot Eat : Hada Labo Cleansing Oil With High Purity Olive Oil

August 19, 2011 Paris B 41 Comments

I picked up the Hada Labo Olive Oil Cleansing Oil online quite a while ago and as with all things fated, it came in quite quickly thereafter. And at a cheaper price too. Would I never learn? Well no, I never do 😛

But anyway, we first saw the Hada Labo water based makeup remover come in a while ago. I had the impression initially that it was an oil cleanser. I was mistaken. It is water based, and although it does remove light makeup, it does not work very well for waterproof or stubborn makeup.

Enter the new Hada Labo Cleansing Oil.

The new cleansing oil is olive oil based, and contains the signature Super Hyaluronic Acid so it does not dry out your skin even as it cleans off makeup. The bottle, to easily distinguish it from the other one, is yellow (to mimic the colour of oil). The oil itself when pumped out however, is clear.

I was a little on the fence about the Hada Labo Makeup Remover. Does this one fare better for me?
