Make me Up – Bridesmaid Makeup Ideas

Well, not bride but bridesmaid. 🙂

I’ll be playing bridesmaid over a couple of weekends and I have been wondering how to do my makeup so I look good but not better than the bride. After all, its her big day and I don’t want to steal her thunder though I seriously doubt I’d be able to produce that happy bridal glow even with my beloved Guerlain Meteorites highlighter!

That said, I may be leaning towards a neutral look with more dramatic eyes for the night. My makeup skills are such that I cannot produce the smokey eye look effectively bar a look that approximates the smokey eye look. That might be good. I can’t be looking smokier than her 😉

I’d most likely use the Guerlain Illuminating Perfecting Primer which works as a good base for me and then use some powder foundation over it. I know liquid foundation works better so I’m still toying with the idea of using a liquid foundation if I can find one in my collection worth using without botching up. I’d definitely set it all with my Make Up For Ever Loose Powder which I swear by for oil control and for budge-proof makeup.

Review: Makeup: Chanel Tweed Duo Blush – Tweed Corail

I was pinching my pennies to get this new Chanel Tweed blush when I unexpectedly received it as a birthday gift. Thanks Jojoba! 🙂 Needless to say, I was over the moon! I received it in Tweed Corail which is French for Coral and if you wondering, no, it is not scary coral on.

In fact, this blush is my perfect everyday to-go blush and I have been using it every day since I got it! That’s how versatile and wonderful it is to me.

The reason it is called a Tweed Duo blush is because the colours are laid out in a tweed pattern similar to the iconic Chanel tweed material used for their jackets and suits. The Tweed blush is marketed as a blush-highlighter product. Do not ask me what that means. For me, this is a straight blush. I reckon the highlighting part indicates that the blush gives you a bit of a glow.

Packaging

Tweed Corail is one of the new Tweed Duo blushes by Chanel. It comes in a compact the same size as the Chanel Joues Contraste blushes (the round domed ones) together with the signature velvet pouch, but the blush itself is oblong. It comes with a brush which feels softer than the other packaged brushes I have tested but I don’t usually use the brush unless I have no other blush brush on hand. The only problem I have with the packaging is that it looks identical to the other Chanel blushes so I can’t tell which is which!

The blush itself has an unfinished look to its surface as I first observed. Squint and you might just see some numbers or letters pop up at you from the bumpy surface. Doesn’t it remind you of those 3D poster things that you squint at until a picture pops into place? Chanel Les Tissages de Chanel Tweed Blush

I first read about the Chanel Tissages de Chanel blushes or commonly known as the Chanel Tweed Blush on Karen’s blog. It fired up my imagination. If I can never own an iconic Chanel tweed suit, I’d own the blush by golly!

The Chanel Les Tissages de Chanel Tweed blush is inspired by the Chanel Tweed suit of course. The blush is made with a matte base colour, then interlaced with silver and gold shimmer towards the surface. That, at least is the theory.

The practical side is totally different!

I finally had a chance to check out the Chanel Tweed Blush in person yesterday after reading and hearing about it for a while. I know Jojoba did not like it, and we chatted about it for a bit last weekend but I still had to see it. Its one of those things. 🙂

When I saw the Chanel Tweed blush in person, I was rather taken aback. It firstly was larger than I imagined (same size as the Irrelle Blush), and secondly, the bumpy surface threw me off a tad. Somehow, I thought it looked unfinished. This is because we are trained to think that a new makeup product always comes with a lovely smooth unmarked surface, not a surface that is bumpy with colours all mixed together any old how.

Testing the colour on the back of my hand, I found that it went on the skin sheer but with noticable shimmer and bits of glitter. What I like about Chanel Joues Constrate blushes is the present but understated shimmer. In the Tweed blush, the shimmer is obvious. Compared to the Joues Contraste blush, the Tweed Blush is much sheerer and requires you to build up the colour. Perfect if you have a light complexion, but not good if you are tanned. (Tweed Rose and Ambre do try to address those with more tanned skin)

Some thoughts on Chanel Fall 2008 Joues Contraste

I usually avoid the mall on a weekend because I hate having to crush with crowds. But yesterday was a little different because I had to hit the bookstore to grab some books on sale. After that, I had a bit of a loose end so I popped down to see what was happening at the beauty counters.

My first stop was Chanel because it was empty. I had spotted the Fall 2008 collection and wanted to check out the Rose Dust Joues Contraste blush. I had enthused about Chanel Joues Contraste blushes in a previous post and I had mentioned that I wanted to check out Rose Dust because it looks so pretty in the pictures.
