Diptyque invites you to spend Une Nuit Chez Diptyque this Christmas

November 16, 2016 Paris B 2 Comments

Christmas time, in a large part of the world is a time of the mini ice age, when snow flurries swirl across the sky and treacherous ice threatens road users and pedestrians. It is a time when the skies will go dark by mid-afternoon and the cold chills you to the bone. It’s no wonder then, that candles and warm scents do well at this time of year. Every bit of cheery light counts!

And no one does Christmas candles quite like Diptyque. Every year, I wait to see what Diptyque has dreamed up for their Christmas collection, and I’m rarely disappointed. Ok, perhaps I have been a little disappointed, but that’s more to do with personal preferences.

This year’s theme at chez Diptyque is Une Nuit Chez Diptyque (A Night at Diptyque), a theme with an interesting story. Legend has it that a long-serving Diptyque staff, Henri who has been with the brand for over 25 years, was snowed in the store at 34 Boulevard St. Germain one Christmas. He fell asleep and had a dream about the store coming to life. He might have overdosed on the Nutcracker, methinks LOL! 😀 But it’s a cute story, and a lovely tribute to a long serving staff member 🙂 I have the video up on the MWS Facebook page, if you’re interested to view it. It’s really cute! 🙂

I’ll just run down some of the offerings, for those who are keen.

Scent your home with Sanctuary candles without burning a hole in your wallet

July 1, 2016 Paris B 26 Comments

If you’ve been here a while, you’d know I’m really into scented candles. Like, REALLY into it. The last time I went to Australia, I returned with a suitcase full of candles and little else. They truly are my guilty pleasure.

But often, good quality soy candles that don’t smell horribly chemical, don’t come cheap. If you want something high quality, especially when it involves scent, it usually comes at a price.

Until now.

Ladies and gents, let me introduce you to Sanctuary, an affordable local brand of soy candles that burn beautifully, smell amazing and importantly, does not make you feel like you’re burning money! 😀

I love it when I find a local brand that lives up to my ideals. There aren’t many, but the few I’ve come across are gems.

Your Say: What’s your beauty guilty pleasure? Mine are scented Candles!

February 18, 2014 Paris B 60 Comments

Here’s the thing, we all have our guilty pleasures. I don’t know… yours might be good quality chocolate or pretty dresses or even that killer pair of heels. You know, that one item you don’t feel bad about splurging on if it is something you really really love. That one item that you may feel a twinge of guilt spending money on, but yet, which brings you joy and pleasure that surpasses the guilt.

Mine are scented candles and I can tell you, the flack I used to get for spending money on something that was to be burnt and therefore, destroyed, was unbelievable. Well maybe not so unbelievable, because I know people do still feel that way. Which is why I say that it’s my guilty pleasure. I feel a twinge of guilt loving it but it gives me pleasure! 😀

I’m not about to convert you into a fan of scented candles but I’d just like to talk about why they are my beauty guilty pleasure, and you can tell me yours. Incidentally, while on the subject of candles, I’ve got my candle fan friends Tine and LeGeeque telling you about their candles story too. Sort of a concerted effort to convert you… but not haha! 😀

The Holiday season just started smelling better with Diptyque

December 15, 2013 Paris B 20 Comments

A couple of weeks ago saw me paying a visit to a Diptyque counter because I have a soft spot for their fragrances and candles and I saw from here that there was a 10 candle set released this year. Excuse me? 10 candles? Let me at them please!

Unfortunately, I found that it wasn’t sold here which left me feeling rather disappointed. But before I could leave the store, the cunning SA at Kens Apothecary BV2 told me that what they DID have was a 5 candle set. I spun around so quickly, I might have given myself whiplash.

Part of the Diptyque Christmas selection is a set of mini candles that was released to commemorate Diptyque’s 50th Anniversary. Each candle represents a scent created in each of the 5 decades commemorated, and they are the mini 35g candles with an approximately 12 hour burning time.

They come in a beautiful black and gold box and I picked it up because it’s a great way to sample a selection of Diptyque candles to see which I might like. Thus far, my experience has only been with 34 and whilst I like it, I wanted to see what else was on offer. If you have never tried anything from Diptyque but are wondering what the hell the hype is all about these luxury scented candles, then the box sets are the way to go. If you can get hold of the 10 candle set, all the better!

For Christmas however, there are 3 limited edition candles, one of which you see in the picture above. If candles and home fragrances are your thing, then boy, I just know we’re going to be friends 😀
