I don’t know about you, but I cannot believe that January is almost over, and February, with its twin celebrations of Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year are going to be upon us very soon! How? How did this happen? Where did the time go?!

It it then opportune that I share with you a new limited edition offering from perfumers and candle makers – Diptyque Rose Delight. I just attended the press launch a few days ago, and it’s already available on shelves, and looks to sell out. These pretty ones always do! LOL! 😀

Diptyque takes to the stars on the backs of the Unicorn, Dragon and Phoenix and leaves me starry-eyed!

I am unabashedly a fan of scented candles, despite detractors, and I have amassed quite a collection over the years from different brands. This year, I told myself I’d be good. I’d burn through the candles I currently own, before buying more. Barring the odd local discovery, I had been good.

And then Diptyque unveiled their Christmas candles, and all resolve went out the window!

This year, Diptyque has collaborated with French artist, Philippe Baudeloque, for their Christmas collection, and I was smitten! Drawing on 3 mythical creatures and set amongst the glittering stars of the cosmos, they had fused 3 of my interests – candles, mythical animals and the stars. I once harboured ambitions of becoming an astronaut. But I was so bad at physics, I gave up on it 😛

The other thing that caught my eye, was the use of coloured wax. Diptyque has, in its permanent collection, candles with coloured wax but I believe this is the first time they were using this coloured wax in their Christmas collection.

Naturally therefore, I had to set aside funds to indulge, for this was not just a candle, it was a beautiful display piece. The question however, was which of the 3 I’d pick up? 😀

Most of you know that my guilty pleasure is scented candles. No, not for use in a blackout, but a lovely, warm, comforting way to scent a room. Room scents work the same way as a body scent or fragrance – it makes it smell better, and you know, it’s a great way to kill any odours, especially if you live in an apartment and have to contend with cooking smells.

As much as I love my luxury candles, I too love finding affordable scented candles made locally, that do not smell artificial. I have a great beef with artificially scented candles, which unfortunately abound. Sorry, not going there. I value my olfactory sense too much to abuse it!

So when I was contacted by one such local company, with the most intriguing name of Lilin + Co, I knew I had to give them a try. They very kindly sent me one custom-made candle, which thrilled me to no end! 😀 I mean, look at that! How often do I see My Women Stuff on merchandise?! Not often! 😀 Looks so good, I should ask them to brew me a customized scent! Haha 😀

When I found out how affordable they were, and that they are soy candles (burns longer, better for the environment) I immediately ordered a few more of their other scents to try, so I have a more rounded opinion of the brand and their scents. The Chinese Lunar New Year festivities are upon us once again, with the Rooster cock-a-doodle-dooing its way in this year. It’s quite early this time around, coming hot on the heels of a brand new year and the year end festivities that ensued. I’m not even sure most of us (and our wallets) have recovered yet!

It is during the Chinese New Year that, as kids, we stood to make a little money LOL It’s tradition to give out lucky red packets (or what we call ‘ang pow’ or in Mandarin ‘hong bao’) with cash it in, for good luck. Chinese, luck, prosperity and money always go hand in hand LOL!

While most of us will be on the giving end, as opposed to the receiving end by now, I nevertheless thought I’d share with you 8 things you could spend your ang pow money on. Not all on once, naturally, but if you’re looking for a little treat to kick off the year, or to welcome in the Year of the Fire Rooster (or what I’d call Roast Chicken Year LOL! 😀 ) here are some personal favourites.
